We went for dinner, and the place was fully packed with about a 30-40 minute wait. They do have outdoor seating while you wait and you can order drinks, which was a nice touch. The open kitchen with glass walls was also interesting to watch, and the ambiance overall was good. I've had Indian food a few times and it's never really been my favorite, until now. Paper Dosa changed that. We sat out on the heated patio, which had a fantastic vibe, warm lighting, lush greenery, and just the right size to feel cozy without being cramped. We tried one tasting menu, and of course, I had to order the namesake Paper Dosa. It was phenomenal. The curry, the Chennai chicken, and the mushroom uttapam were all excellent, flavorful, balanced, and beautifully presented. My wife ordered a cocktail, the Palaash, and it was equally impressive. I opted for beer! Which paired nicely with my meal. Service was spot on. Our server was charismatic, funny, and genuinely engaging, he took the time to explain the menu and set expectations, and it made the evening that much better. All in all, Paper Dosa isn't just great Indian food, it's great food, period. 10/10 I will be back here on my next Santa Fe visit. read more

This review is not for the food but specifically for the hostess at Paper dosa who has major communication issues. We stopped by this restaurant 3 times during our trip to Santa Fe as it came highly recommended by a friend. But alas, we were not able to get in :( The first time: I called and asked if the restaurant was open for dine-in. Hostess confirmed that it was open although wait times could be long. However, when we reached, it turned out that the restaurant was open for take out only. Second time: Didn't call (since it didn't help the first time) but checked online, apps said restaurant was open but it was completely closed Third time: Called and asked to make reservations, hostess said "we don't take reservations regardless of party size" even though it said otherwise on their website. She said there shouldn't be a wait that evening. And lo and behold! there was a hour and half wait when we reached. Really disappointed on how this business misleads customers. They ruined 3 mealtimes for us but the silver lining is that we found other places nearby with minimal wait and good food! read more

Definitely a talk-of-the-town spot, you can feel it the moment you walk in. There's almost always a wait, and during our entire visit we didn't see a single table empty. Very busy and energetic. The dosas were good, and the rasam stood out with a nice peppery kick. Portions are on the smaller side, which worked for us but may not for everyone. We waited about 35-40 minutes to get a table on a Tuesday night, as they were super busy. I guess it doesn't help that we came after the first seating, so everyone already got seated when they opened up at 5:00 pm, and we arrived around 5:35 pm when folks were still dining. I had heard really great things about paper dosa in the past and so on a recent day in Santa Fe with some friends, we decided to check it out. I would describe the interior as intimate. It's not a super large restaurant. None of us had ever been and were pleasantly surprised by their tasting menu. It seems like the best route to go because you got to try so many different things. I believe it was three courses, and you could add on a wine pairing. I didn't do the wine pairing instead I got a cocktail, but a few of my friends did. Everything that I tried was absolutely amazing. I started with the chicken appetizer that I can't remember the name of then the spicy basil dosa, and finally the prawn curry. It was all really good and very flavorful. We ended with the rasmalai which a cheese based dessert with sweet cream and was really delicious. One interesting note is throughout the night. You could feel a cold breeze, and it was kind of annoying but upon leaving, I realized that they have a takeout window. Very interesting for sure. Man... this is tough. So many people seem to give this place high praise but it feels like even 4 stars is pushing it. I'm going with 4 on the chance that this might be an unusual one-off experience. The good: - the corn soup was outstanding. Seasoned super well, absolutely delicious. We thought this would set the tone for the meal, quality-wise. - the staff was very friendly - The vibe was cool - the prices were reasonable (except an additional $3 to get rice with your curry... that's kind of weird? Shouldn't curry come with rice???) The bad: - everything apart from the corn soup was really not exceptional and borderline bad. Long wait, amazing dosas. One of the cutest places in Santa Fe. Also one of the most popular. Everything is cute here right down to the font on the menu! This is a casual dining restaurant that is known for being very kid friendly, including having a kid size, but still really rather large dosa on the menu. Unfortunately seating is limited and the parking lot is kinda small and may be a little scary to navigate. We waited for about an hour after checking in to get a seat. This is my first dosa of experience so I started out really simple. The large paper dosa with a masala on the side for $16 if you notice while sitting here that they bring out large rolled up pieces of bread that resemble rolled up newspapers that's it. There are large cones of delicious sour crêpes made with fermented rice and lentil batter. They served it with Sam bar and coconut and tomato chutney on the side. I loved breaking the large rolled up crepe and dipping it in assorted sauces, but I could have eaten that fermented sour goodness by itself. It was big enough for two. I also enjoyed my friends chili and noon pakora with eggplant chutney. Flavorful but not too spicy. So now that I returned from our trip, Santa Fe, I've been desperately seeking dosa in Washington DC that is as good as the one I have here. Honestly this place is a gem. If you like Indian cuisine you will for sure enjoy the different take on some of the dishes this place has to offer. This is not your typical Indian restaurant who offers the tikka masala or korma for lunch and dinner, they have a different type of dishes that are almost a fusion between Indian spices and some Thai influences, at least that's what the Prawn Curry reminded me of. Let's talk a little more about the prawn curry.. I honestly did not put the spoon down for one second. I think I inhaled the dish because it was soooo good. OH... MY... WORD... I love Indian cuisine. This place is to die for. . The food is SO DELICIOUS. You cannot go wrong with appetizers or dinner. We sat at the bar, our bartender was hilarious. I went here on the recommendation of a friend during my first visit to Santa Fe, and I'm so glad I did. Honestly, if I hadn't been referred, I probably would've driven right past it (in fact, I did a couple of times before finding it). Once there, I was thrilled to discover their Sunday window service, which made it easy to enjoy a beautiful meal outdoors on the patio on a perfect Santa Fe day. The food was incredible--generous portions and absolutely delicious. I had a rolled dosa filled with mushrooms that was a true vegan masterpiece, served with a lovely side of soup. Wildly disappointing and perfunctory. I've heard great things, but at present the place appears to be in a bare bones maintenance mode. You're handed disposable utensils, the food is brought in to-go containers and you are seated in a barren patio (no shade or vegetation, construction ladder strewn about). You'd think the food would make up for the ambiance, but, while edible, was nothing to write home about. Specifically, the pakora was great and the chickpea flour flavors shone. However, the vegetable curry was lacklustre and not flavorful. I made a Mulligatawny at home the night before off a YouTube video that was more flavorful, and I am by no means a seasoned cook nor an expert in south Indian food. read more

Dosa is a paper thin Indian crepe made from the batter of rice, gram lentils, fenugreek seeds and black lentils. They are the perfect carrier of chutneys and curries and the simple 'shovel' to bring delicious Indian foods to your mouth. This place is busy so make reservations. They have a take out window that was wildly popular. The interior is modestly decorated and there are booths and tables to seat the hungry guests. The bhel puri was a North Indian street food starter of tamarind and mint chutney infused into the puffed rice, cilantro, onion, mango, tomato and cilantro. Rapid fire flavors in your mouth. Excellent. Chennai chicken is fried chicken breast marinated in yogurt and spices. Another delicious choice. My lamb keema was a point on spiced ground lamb dish served with sambar and chutneys. The dosa was rolled like an edible evening newspaper. So many flavors without weighing you down. Others at our table experimented with North and South Indian dishes and all of them were uniquely interesting. All gave their nod of approval! For dessert we sampled the gulab jamun, fried doughnut holes served in a simple syrup. I enjoyed my favorite mango lassi- creamy and lightly sweet drink, like a shake but better. You need more than a couple of visits to journey through the menu of Indian cuisines. This spot will appeal to a variety of tastes. read more

The food there is so flavorful and delicious--I'm particularly in love with the prawn moilee (so rich and wonderfully spiced, and the shrimp were fresh and tender) and the idli fries (super crispy and came with a nice spicy dip!). We also ordered the lamb keema dosa and pakoras. The pakoras were different from ones I'd had before, as in they were much smaller pieces rather than like a fritter, but still crispy and tasty. The atmosphere is lovely and service was very kind; it was definitely one of the nicer restaurants I went to in Santa Fe, and the prices reflect that, with dosas around $14-$16 and curries in the $20 range.
