I knew my inner stationery fiend would get completely carried away if I started browsing (it's packed with all the supplies you could want, though most you could probably nick from your office stationary cupboard, not that I'm advocating that ahem), so I asked the lady behind the counter if they sold raffle ticket books; she went one better than pointing me to a shelf and kindly walked me right over to them. I was impressed by the range even of this one (slightly out of the ordinary) product - which came in a variety of colours and sizes. I nabbed two books of standard sized 500s for a very reasonable £5 and skipped back to the office to start selling them :)

That was until I decided to see if my good friend Google threw up any other cheaper options. Safe to say it did and led me to the City Organiser website. There were loads of options to choose from and I found the Filofax I'd been seconds away from buying for the bargainous price of £16.10 - saving me nearly £4 compared to if I'd bought it direct from Filofax. Now, having placed my order on Bank Holiday Monday, I wasn't expecting to get my shiny new Filofax until the end of the week. Nope, it arrived this morning. Alas, as I was opening it, I thought to myself 'hmmm...doesn't look purple' (which was what I'd ordered) but with both the receipt and invoice saying I'd been shipped the purple one, I thought it was maybe the packaging (bubble wrap and a protective layer) that was preventing me from seeing the proper colour. Unfortunately not, it turned out that I'd been sent the black one. Not to worry though, a quick phone call later, they located my order, apologised profusely and the purple one is now making its way to me, less than 2 hours after I'd phoned up. They've even put an SAE in with the package so I can send the black one back. Excellent service!

This location has a HUGE amount of used office furniture. Desk, chairs, tables, etc. Some of it in great condition, some of it not-so-great. It's all cleanly laid out in this warehouse. They also sell new/custom lines as well, which they clearly try to steer you towards. Pet peeve -- LIST THE PRICES on the items. FFS, I do not want to have to ask you how much each thing costs. I won't bother you about a chair that is 4x overpriced, ok lads? Free delivery in/around London - so that's nice. I didn't end up liking anything particularly on this visit, nor did I want to order new/custom (could do that somewhere else) -- the appeal of same or next day delivery was nice but asking about prices and then getting very lackluster information from the attendant kind of put me off. He kind of shoo'ed me away and gave me his card to call him. Like, I'm here right now. SELL ME SOMETHING. Anyway, it's not a bad shout if you need some lightly used office furniture for your office, startup, or even at home depending on your space. Looks like their inventory rotates relatively often so worth a stop in as its very convenient to local transport and right off Old Street.

Unfortunately I never got much further than the Blue Peter school of glitter glue so a lot of the stock in this shop goes a bit over my head. Sticking to what I can understand, Cowling and Wilcox has a really nice card and gift selection with a bit more personality than anything you'll find in Clinton's. The writing sets are particularly stylish although they can be quite expensive. Similarly, they have a great selection of Moleskin diaries and books but these can cost anything upwards of £15. On the other hand they have a great selection of arty presents for kids which all seem very reasonably priced and a lot of fun too for that matter! I defy anyone to be too old for face-paints. Cowling and Wilcox is a lovely shop which is well worth a look around if you're in need of anything a bit arty or looking for a more personal present for that difficult someone.

Mindlessly wandering through the store, picking up colourful bottles and textured paper. The mind can run wild with new ideas. Cowling and Wilcox is a huge store situated on Shoreditch High Street. They have everything from portfolios, to canvas, paints, spray paint, paper, printer ink cartridges and much more. A light and airy shop pack fill of supplies all organised clearly on shelves and stands making for easy spending. It is a little on the expensive side, however the quality and quantity of supplies is impressive. Especially if it is a final year portfolio or important presentation. To top it off the staff are very helpful and inspiring if stuck for colour choices or alternative solutions to presentation.
