I recently got to try Paradise Bagels and the food was pretty good, but the lack of cleanliness was awful. Their were 2 women who were working behind the counter, one older and one younger. The older women was the worst of the 2. I noticed her several tie grabbing food without gloves on. She grabbed a muffin right out of a tin without any gloves and handed it to a customer. Come on, please put a glove on or use a paper. She also had her mask on like a chin strap. I understand you are busy but health and safety of your customers should be a top priority. Also, these bagels are not fresh. They don't make them in house and they are all in plastic bags. They use a microwave to warm of meats and eggs they put on the sandwiches. I got the egg sandwich with ham on an everything bagel and it was pretty good. I believe the sandwich was $9 and thank goodness the other lady (younger) made the sandwich. She was wearing gloves and a mask and I felt much safer around her. The sandwich was served with 1 strawberry (which had seen better days) and a piece of a banana. I did overhear the lady tell a guest that the dishwasher called in sick and their 3 person called in sick as well. They were very busy on a Saturday morning, but the lack of cleanliness and health issues of staff is why this is only getting 3 stars, cause the sandwich was pretty good. read more

LOVED the food, service, and atmosphere!! owner is kind hearted and very sweet!!! BEST tomatoes I've ever had! Please do not let other reviewers political views sway your opinion of this very fine establishment! My husband and I came in after a very hot, long bike ride and were overheated and borderline heat exhaustion. the owner and employees made us feel welcome and showed compassion while having us take a seat and provided ice spring water immediately. Money was not their priority as they forgot we hadn't paid upon ordering because they seemed very concerned about our well being and not their bottom line. There's a lot to unpack here, but here are the highlights: Terrible layout. There seems to be one line to order your food and another to check out after you're done eating, but to order anything, you have to push through the checkout line and stand single-file. Rethinking either the layout or the checkout process might help, but I highly doubt the owner's going to change procedures now. Which brings me to point number 2... Political stickers EVERYWHERE. Doesn't matter what party you're from, nobody wants to sit and eat with a ton of "Trump DeSantis 2024" stickers looking at them. Makes the place feel tacky and doesn't speak well of the owners/management. Absolutely NASTY kitchen area (if you could call it that). Wanted to order an omelette, but changed my mind when I took one look at the stove. Most breakfast places have a range or a flattop to whip up several omelettes, eggs, bacon, etc. at a time, but apparently there's one stove (picture the one your grandma has.... You got it.). Dirty pans all over from botched breakfast past, so it was a bagel for me instead. Microwaved bagel eggs. Swear to god, when you order a breakfast sandwich with egg, they pull out a little frozen hockey puck and throw it into the microwave in front of you. For $12+ a sandwich, they could at least use a fresh egg and a ring mold- at least they could if they had a flat top. Overall dirty appearance and understaffed. The indoor seating area is dimly lit, which at least partially hides the clutter and dirt. They're ridiculously understaffed, so tables aren't cleared promptly and baskets of food scraps and paper just pile up. I don't get the feeling that this is for lack of trying; I think the owner just understaffs and the one other person working there doesn't have time to do it all. She's cooking, trying to clear/wipe down tables, and maintain some kind of order in the back kitchen area. Absolutely burnt out employee. Could easily solve the problem by hiring additional staff, especially since the customer turnover would go through the roof if they did. Speaking of... Crazy wait times for basic breakfast fare. When I overheard some brave soul try to order the omelette, he was told that the wait time would be over 25 minutes. When he was understandably confused, the staff snapped at him and told him that they were too busy. An entire party of four walked out without ordering anything, and that wasn't the only one we saw while we were there. I understand not wanting to take the time to streamline or hire additional workers, but the single omelette breakfast for four people would have probably more than paid for the additional staff. Multiply that by however many people have left empty-handed and disappointed and you start to get the sense that math isn't anybody's strong suit. Overall, the experience was pretty dismal, and it's almost entirely because of poor management. Simple, basic changes could get people higher-quality food much faster, and making sure that the restaurant is properly staffed would go a long way to making the customer service experience a lot more pleasant. May be the first time I've ever said this, but if you're choosing between this independently run business and the Dunkin Donuts next door, save your money and your time and just go to the Dunkin. read more

I'm a local on the island and this is my favorite bagel place! I switch between the breakfast bagel sandwiches and the lunch sandwiches and they've always been amazing! Also the pancakes are HUGE! The breakfast sandwiches come with a side of fruit and it's always been fresh. During rushes, please be patient with the staff! It can get really busy and you might have to wait a little bit for your food but the owner is super hard working. I'm thankful they work hard to keep this place open on and off season! Many local businesses struggle to keep their businesses afloat during off season. I had a positive experience with this establishment last week, my only problem was indecisiveness. When in doubt, order it all. ha So I got a toasted asiago bagel with cream cheese for one meal, a cranberry orange muffin for another and their two pancakes for a third. The muffin was a tad dry but warming it and adding butter made it a rockstar. The pancake was delicious and came with sliced strawberries and bananas-nice surprise. Bagel was tops. Service was swift & polite and everyone was following safe distancing and mask precautions. There was ample outside seating for those not doing grab & go. I did find the coffee carafes smudgy & sorta gross but I wasn't partaking. I wouldn't hesitate to eat here again. read more

First, I love the MAGA hats for sale!!! Heck yeah! If you want liberal bagels go elsewhere!! My issue is the negative interaction between the mature lady (owner?) and the other employees. This is my go to place when in town. As for the bad reviews when they talk about politics and crap then sit outside. If you want a great bagel and pleasant place to sit, then stop here. Little bagel dive on the island. I had a egg, cheese, and bacon bagel and it was absolutely delicious. My wife had a bagel sandwich with meat, cheese, lettuce and tomato. It was also very good. As far as the "politics" thing goes, people are overreacting. I saw a President Trump bobble head behind the counter and one picture of a family posing beside a wax statue of President Trump. We visited Paradise Bagels and had some great egg bagels, served quickly, and with friendly service. The bagels were pretty good, and we also had some pancakes, which were filling and tasty. The place is a bit shabby (buckets on the floor catching water from a dripping AC unit, for example) and the coffee wasn't up to much but the food was solid enough that we tried the place again. I wish we hadn't. Yelp's guidelines say, "reviews aren't the place for rants about a business's employment practices, political ideologies, extraordinary circumstances, or other matters that don't address the core of the consumer experience." So I will only note this: no matter how friendly the service may be or how hungry we are, a member of staff in a Make America Great Again hat indicates that your main concern is to promote a political agenda. To some of us, those red hats scream sentiments that are the opposite of welcome, care, and hospitality. And I see from other reviews that other customers have experienced the same thing. We'd placed our order at this second visit but canceled it when I spotted that hat on a member of staff. (We went down the road to another establishment and had a fine breakfast there instead.) I was saddened to do so. The island needs a great bagel place, and Paradise Bagels could be it. But not if attention is placed on promoting a political agenda over the care and service of ALL customers. read more

I may have done a review on this place before, and I'm sure it would have been in the 3-4 star range, because I am a frequent customer. It has always been a little on the shabby side, but more than made up for with the friendly staff and relaxed, homey atmosphere. But I was deeply saddened by my most recent visit when I was surprised and disappointed to see that the proprietor (assumedly) had decided to display some political paraphernalia which I, and I must assume many like minded patriots, see as inherently racist and unsavory. As a result, I have made my last visit to the establishment. How sad that a local proprietor, just trying to run a simple business has to turn away a large chunk of their customers, simply to make a public display of their views on society and our traditions in their place of business. read more

They have to be kidding!!! If you come from any place that makes real bagels which would be any where but here you will be disappointed. Walked In and should of walked out "bagels" are kept in plastic bags in plastic containers with snap lids. I asked woman behind counter are "bagels" made here no they come fresh every morning at 5. I ordered 2 everything to bring home they basically were hamburger buns with holes punched in them. I figured ok I will toast them no help. Rude service! I ordered a cinnamon bagel with veggie cream cheese and the woman behind the counter asked me if that's really the cream cheese I wanted on my bagel. I confirmed that was my order and she called out to a co worker and continued making fun while she made it. Also the cinnamon sugar wasn't baked into the bagel she just rolled a plain bagel in the topping in front of me. It was very dry! I thought it was very unprofessional to comment on what I want to eat. Looking around the restaurant I saw a picture of the woman and her family so I presume she was the owner too! Ordered their famous Eggel with ham and cheese. The bagel was soggy and liquid pooled underneath. Came with a strawberry and half a banana which I thought was a nice touch, until I noticed mold covering the strawberry. Service was growly. Save your money.
