Good Evening Reviewers. This is my first Yelp review and I wanted to make sure everyone realizes how deceived I was when I dealt with this locksmith. I was locked out of my apartment one night and called several locksmiths to see what type of deal I can get. After speaking with Paragon Security, they had assured me that the cost of getting into my apartment was $99 and an additional fix on my lock would cost me $150. Fine. The 'expert door opener' came to my apartment and managed to open the door without any damages, it was merely stuck and needed a stronger twist. Great, that should be $99. He ended up charging me $145 because I didn't understand the quote correctly. No, I did - I was just bamboozled. NEVER CALL THIS PLACE. I know it's "only $46", but it's about the principle. read more

I work in an office in midtown manhattan and we use a very different key then most places. Its a master lock/dimple key. After calling 15-20 key copiers in NYC, I almost lost hope, until I found Paragon Security & Locksmith. I contacted them via there facebook page and a gentleman by the name of Zohar was more then happy to help me. i went to the office and you can tell that you were dealing with the best of the best. Within 5 mins, Zohar and his team were able to duplicate this crazy key, twice! Both copies worked without a problem, I will absolutely come back here for all my key and security needs. recently, i was in need of replacement gates on two doors to the terrace off my apt. i was worried about the cost, since the gates cost so much when my mother installed them to begin with - and that was 1000 years ago. and besides electronics, what actually goes down in price over the years??? so when i scheduled my appointment for an estimate, i was dreading the number they'd quote. but not only did they arrive quickly and on-time for the the estimate - but i was very pleasantly surprised by the cost of the job! needless to say, i agreed to the job - and after another visit to measure once again - they came just about one week later to install my beautiful gates! they were just what i wanted - and everyone i've talked to or met at paragon are so damned friendly! i would not hesitate to call them again for any of my gate/lock needs. i encourage you to do the same! read more

I called Paragon on Thursday afternoon to get my locks changed in my new apartment on the UES. They made an appointment for that evening for a free estimate (of course, by the time you have a locksmith at your apartment, you'll likely have the job done by that person -- hence the willingness to do a free estimate!). The locksmith was friendly and professional, able to improvise with a lock Paragon didn't carry, and completed the job that night. We checked that everything worked, signed the receipt, and he left. Later that evening I noticed that the cylinder was not screwed in tightly enough and moved a bit as I extracted the key. Called them Friday morning, got a Saturday appointment for a free follow-up (they would have done Friday night but my schedule didn't permit). Same locksmith came and fixed the problem in less than 5 minutes. No extra charge because they guarantee their work for 90 days. I also had duplicates of my new keys made at their 84th St. West location. 3 Mul-T-Lock, 3 Schlage, and 2 mailbox keys. Every one works flawlessly. I've had a number of keys made at this location since I've lived here for 6 years; most have worked and a few haven't, and they've always fixed the problems at no charge. To the reviewer who gave a 3 star review: drilling a cylinder is sometimes the only way to get you into your apartment. You're basing a negative review on your expectation that a locksmith could pick a basically unpickable lock. That's the point of the high security locks, that they can't be picked. It's a bit unlikely your super could have gotten you in for free -- and if he could, one might wonder whether he's moonlighting as the Pink Panther. To the reviewer who gave a 1 star review: I've had many keys duplicated in the past, at many different stores. Anyone can make a mistake, and I've experienced many. Did they fix it? For free? That's the key, pardon the pun. Expecting perfection is unreasonable. Bottom line, I'd definitely go with these folks again. read more

Unlike most of the other reviews (I perused most but not all) my review is based on the experience with trying to get them to come to an apartment to fix a lock. I needed a lock fixed on an apartment door - it wouldn't lock from the outside, meaning I had to leave the apartment unlocked. I called in the morning and set up an appointment for them to be there between 12:30-1:30pm because I was leaving at 3pm and wouldn't be back for several days. Obviously I couldn't leave the apartment unlocked for that length of time so it was important that they be there . "No problem, we'll be there". I set up my busy schedule accordingly. 1:35pm and nobody has showed up so I call them and ask. It sounds like the person on the phone asked one or two people about it in the background and then responded by saying that they could not show up until after 5pm or the next day. I got no phone call from them saying they would not be there: they seemed perfectly fine with the fact that they left me hanging. How can this be a sustainable business model when there are 5 or 6 locksmiths in the neighborhood? After a few minutes of intense pleading they agreed to have somebody there in 20 minutes. Oh really? Where was this guy before? When he showed up he was very professional and polite. Thank you. However, I didn't really need the $150 lock he tried to sell me. read more

Friendly service, relaxed atmosphere and nice people

PARAGON has a wonderful installation person who came to put in my new lock - and I must say that my door was a big challenge! The prior installation was a sloppy job which threw the alignment of my apartment door off to the point that it would get stuck periodically when I would open and close my door. This wonderful installer, by the name of Tal, not only installed my new lock with grace, he was able to fix the problem with my door with the utmost patience. Tal is very handy and really understands the bio-mechanics of door alignment and the complexities that come with these types of installations. I may add that Tal is professional, courteous, polite, and works with a smile. I feel confidant with my new lock and would highly recommend Tal if you need work done. One additional note, When I walked into Paragon locksmith uptown store, I knew instinctively the moment I met the owner that he was trustworthy. read more

Popped into Paragon Security for a bike lock on Thursday, and they were great. Yes, I know it was just a bike lock, but if you have ever ventured into the over-crowded, under-staffed bike shops scattered throughout Manhattan, you know it isn't always that easy to get good service. I have actually been there before, about a year ago, when I needed spare keys made and the guys working the store were helpful and nice. It's a strange layout in that it feels like you are walking into someone's office, but luckily there is a checkout counter that assures you it is totally appropriate to walk on in and look around. I also love the Christopher Street vibe in that you have to walk down stairs on a tree lined street to even find the place. Overall an efficient and well managed store with friendly service (both guys I dealt with were smiley and amiable) that seems busy but not overdrawn. They seem like a good store to keep in the back of your mind for when you need keys, locks, or any help with your apartment's security. read more

I was passing by & decided to stop in to get keys made, was advised if I was interested in changing the locksmith will visit for comp consultation of needs. Time window was given (btw if you live in Manhattan, any place offering a "delivery" type service gives a window, never a specific time!) Locksmith arrived, professionally dressed, friendly & helpful with good suggestions given my budget. Work was done, credit card payment was made via dispatcher & receipt given. I don't think anyone would require anything else from a locksmith. In addition, any mess made, he cleaned it up--big plus in my book! Rating & review well deserved. read more
