Full disclosure: this school gets points for proximity to my apartment, and I can't compare it to…read moreother language schools in Munich; however, I've taken German in San Francisco (at two different schools), Düsseldorf, London, and Münster (shouldn't I be fluent by now?!) as well as company-sponsored lessons here at my office, and the instruction I received from Andreas at Klartext is really unparalleled. In my experience it's easily on par with instruction at the Goethe-Institut. That being said, although MY instructor was diligent, thorough, dedicated and uncompromising, over the course of my several months at Klartext I encountered a few substitute teachers who unfortunately were not of exceptional caliber; quite the opposite, really. I even left one class during the break because it felt like such a complete waste of time. My impression was these substitute teachers were not employed by Klartext full-time, and were just available local German teachers stepping in. Other classmates of mine reported mixed experiences (some superlative, some disastrous) with their previous full-time instructors at Klartext, but all said their feedback at the end of the courses was absorbed and considered by the administration. I'll also say that you should expect a lot of homework at Klartext - which, in my opinion, is an effective learning method, and therefore an advantage. The level of accountability could be daunting - sometimes after a long day of work you don't want to be scolded and humiliated as you attempt to correct a blank worksheet in front of the class - but it's actually worth it. I progressed more quickly and significantly under Andreas' instruction at Klartext than anywhere else, and really miss the methods (diagraming on the whiteboard, consistently teaching articles when introducing nouns, doing grammar drills on worksheets, etc.) now that I'm taking classes with a much more "relaxed" instructor. TL;DR: Don't judge their terrible website: if you're serious about learning German, this school is the place for you; the value for money is excellent. However, if you slack off, your classmates will be annoyed, your teacher will shame you, and you'll likely fail the challenging exams at the end of each session. I plan to return at some point to further my study... and hope I'll be lucky enough to get another fabulous teacher.

We found a great EAL (English as an Additional Language) department and an inspiring class teacher. This year my son is in Grade 6, in an English A class (that for native speakers), he studies German and Spanish too. They teach in a way that is different from the one we where used to in Italy, and, having worked as a math and science tutor for traditional school, it took me some time to realize that "different" doesn't mean "worse". At the moment the school is opening a City Campus for Primary School in Leopoldstr. in Munich, absolutely a more convenient location for the families with young children who live downtown.

Initially she will listen very carefully to the parent, but will then take on her own way by finding out the interests and talents of every individual child in a very calm and child-friendly manner. She does not consider her work as offering a playgroup for children, but rather implementing the basics of Montessori education. Every child at its own pace in a harmonious, nonviolent, safe environment. I entrusted my 3 children fearlessly and without a guilty conscience at different stages in their lives. So, I can recommend Frau Schlötter 100% to any other parent who wants their child in good hands - no, in excellent hands! I have never felt as safe and sure leaving my kids with a babysitter or aupair as I have with Frau Schlötter. The children learn how to appreciate going about things quietly, even sitting at the table for their snack-time. Respecting the basic rules of hygiene and safety, Frau Schlötter is able to melt away any stubbornness in your child concerning table manners as well. The children eat off of china and drink from real glass cups. They also learn to use a fork, spoon and knife. There is never any screaming or shouting - Frau Schlötter will give you the confidence in leaving your child with her by her extremely sweet service of confirming via text message onto your cell phone how things are going. The computer training materials Christine provided were excellent, and I had no trouble passing the written exam (although I talked myself into one incorrect answer just before hitting "submit"). My on-road driving lessons with Edi were also excellent. He had me drive to lots of "tricky spots" to make sure I really had the rules down (especially right-of-way priority) and provided good explanations for all of my questions. The first couple of lessons we stayed in English, but then we switched to mostly German to better prepare for the driving test, during which my examiner stayed 100% in German. Some of the signs and rules in Germany are very different than what I am used to after 30 years of US driving. I definitely would not have passed my tests without the help I got from Christine and Edi. I'll be recommending Fahrschule Christine Timmer to anyone who asks, without hesitation.

I have over 20 years driving experience in my country (Mexico) and in the US due to frequent business trips. When I drive I am used to look all around; yes that is me, I rather be cautious than in an accident. This has never slowed me down. For Christine, this was unacceptable. She controlled every movement of my head, and even the "tension" with which I held the steering wheel, including the position of my thumbs. She claimed that I have the habit of briefly (less than a second) looking left before turning right in a green light because I come from a "South American country" where traffic lights and rules are rarely respected. Yes, that's what she said!! And so there I was, paying nearly a 100 euros per hour to be insulted based on nationalistic prejudice by a person who believes to be an expert connoisseur of driving habits in other countries, and yet clearly does not even know basic geography to realize that Mexico is not in South America. Her experience in "South America" appears to come from a trip she made to California, during which she crossed to Tijuana for a day or so.... To her defense I should say that she apologized when I noted her comments are inappropriate... My wife had a very good experience in this school. but she had her lessons with instructors other than Christine.
