This was a must on our itinerary for our final day in Montreal. We did take a uber there but proudly walked back. This museum was massive with 5 floors of all different mediums of Art. It was an easy map to follow to show me what I must! See and others that I call a fast pass, no lingering allowed :) I didn't read about it in advance so was surprised to see some of my favorites included. I got to see a Rembrandt who I love but got tired of after teaching it to middle schoolers for 5 years. There was a lot of modern and abstract pieces that were magnificent you will see in the pictures. Sometimes museums can be confusing in the layout but this one was perfectly arranged in such a way that I loved that after 3 hours the bottoms of my feet hurt and then we made the journey back to our hotel. We had a wonderful time and had to go around twice to our favorite exhibits! I forget the exact price for entry but I was reasonable.

Displays of historical finds, and records are combined with higher tech displays, including some more sophisticated ones, such as having a somewhat real conversation with a (likely) AI generated image of a tavern owner from the 17th century. Navigating this museum may be challenging for folks with mobility issues or vertigo. Many areas are dark, including stairs (elevators are plentiful). But some rooms are built on top of some of the original structures, covered with plate glass floors. Looking down at these and walking might be a struggle for some. And because the museum is in Old Montreal, there are plenty of places you can go in the immediate vicinity before and after your visit!

Everything is so fun to look at and read and learn, the views at the top are also very nice with comfortable couches to just sit relax and enjoy. I loved reading about the history of the building as well as walking through the small garden area. What's also nice about this place is that there isn't many people so you can enjoy at a leisure pace and peacefully. This is an instant add to my list of recommendations for people visiting the city.

The museum itself is quite small (only 3 levels) and took me less than 1 hour to go through it. The architecture is quite interesting as the building is quite old (the museum opened in 1882!) The museum also exhibits the history of the area, from native times to present. Located in the middle of the historic town center, the center also has a thriving farmers market in summer months. We had a guided tour by Marc Antoine who was not only extremely knowledgable, but was a delight, patiently answering everyone's questions during the tour. The museum houses one of the first and only still fully intact and working fire engines from the early 20th century. It also explains the industrial contributions that Saint Jean Richlieu has made to both Canada and the States. For example, I had no idea that Singer Sewing Machines were made here or that during WWII, Singer made bullets for both the Canadian and American troops. There is gorgeous original pottery on display from the different time periods, including some original Autochone (Native American) pieces. The museum has several interactive areas to enhance the experience as well, visually and audibly. Downstairs, they offer pottery workshops for children and the main entrance houses beautiful local modern pottery for sale, made by local artisans. There's also a section of world renown and award-winning pottery from different artists from Quebec. It's a delightful museum and I'd come here again.

The site I was directed to (in Montreal's underground mall) is a tiny sample of their usual offering, so small in fact, that paying anything to enter struck me as an utter money grab. (My entry fee was waived as I had the Passport MTL). Even with essentially free admission for me, what was on view here was less than compelling and I had to work hard to engage my interest. My recommendation is to wait until they're back in their permanent home. Finding this place wasn't worth the time it took but, of course, I thought I was headed to the real deal, not a temporary exhibit.

A perfect slightly-rainy day activity, but bring an umbrella. AAA and student discounts available. Open seasonally (check their website) but daily from 10am-5pm. We arrived at 10:30am and didn't leave until closing @ 5pm. They allow you to visit the following day if you show your receipt. We took our time, stopping by the cafe a couple times, only rushing a bit in the last 20 minutes, although we did not see the exhibitions in the shiny and new exhibition center near the entrance. Could definitely knock this place out in one day if you were efficient. Little shuttles available (think long, covered golf carts), running every ~15 minutes. Don't miss the Prentis and Stencil House tours (10:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., and 3:30 p.m. 45 minutes) and Ticonderoga steamboat tours (11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. 45 minutes). The top floor of the Ticonderoga was closed off due to rain (potential slipping). Demonstrations at the blacksmith and printing house, which was a pleasant surprise (special thanks to Joe!). Plethora of impressive and comprehensive collections ranging from circus, carriage, taxidermy, furniture, dolls, paintings - really anything and everything!
