In fact, so dedicated was he to his trade that he physically grew samples in the back of the car so as potential customers could see first hand and sample the various benefits of each strain before proceeding with the purchase. Having personally been witness to Johnny in action, and seen for myself, many a farmers tears of joy as Johnny showed up with that last minute ordered half acre of grass seed just before the rains came, I can highly recommend Johnny and his business to any and all who have need of his services. RORY GALLAGHER'S GRAVE…read more Rory Gallagher is probably Cork's best known figure internationally and the musician's life is marked by quite a few memorials and plaques around the city. I saw Rory play in some small venues before he became famous. Quite a few visitors come to check on the places associated with his life and many end up at St Oliver's Graveyard in Carrigrohane, the place where he was buried. Called to St Oliver's myself the other day and you can see my photo attached. St Oliver's is a very large graveyard, with a map on the way in. It is also a lawn graveyard, meaning it is very tidy and graves are easy to find.

First opened in the middle of the 19th century, it numbers among its graves the final resting places of former Taoiseach Jack Lynch and the rebel Lord Mayors Tomas McCurtain and Terence McSwiney. McCurtain and McSwiney are buried in the Republican plot and other groups to have plots of their own include some religious orders and there is also a baby corner, perhaps the saddest spot of all. Called there today to check some stonework being done on a family grave and had a walk around, taking in the different types of monuments and memorial stones. The graveyard, which has two chapels (no longer used) onsite, had been well laid out from the start and the newer area graves are now devoid of surrounding kerbstones, making it easier to maintain them. You will see different spellings for it but the Cork City Council site uses St. Finbarr's. The site also informs you that there are no longer plots available. It is possible to get everywhere by walking on the paths. There is a big chapel there. At the front of the cemetery there is a huge cross and the republican plot. IRA hunger strikers are buried there. Just behind the republican plot of the grave of Tom Barry and his headstone gives his date of death which is often incorrectly given in many books.

What remains today is the outer wall of the fort, which was by Lord Mountjoy to be rebuilt. Since 1690 it has been used as a prison and a barracks, and now it is used as a police station. . This place is a gem in cork. The view of Cork City is wonderful and delightful to look at from the fort. It's actually a great way to get aquainted and inspired with Cork, and it didn't cost nothing to look. (",)
