We had an old swimming pool patio and walls replaced by SE Landscape Construction Ltd. The old…read morepatio tiles showed signs of serious movement and the walls were dangerously close to falling over. Will visited and quoted to remove and replace the tile surround and walls. His team then performed the works as per his instructions. Within 12 months the tiling was already showing huge cracks and the walls were cracking and leaning. His team then revisited the site to do repairs but he has now refused to fix any further problems as, in his words, this is due to "heave" and not his handiwork. Heave for the uninitiated, and in his words, is "differential movement of the ground ... caused by differential shrinkage in the clay soil." We have no recourse to these problems as legal action would inevitably end up with SE Landscape going into administration. If you choose to use this firm I would strongly suggest you have a structural engineer look over their quote prior to accepting it. I would also avoid them if you are looking to build on clay, near trees or in hot or wet weather, as it appears any of these factors could lead to "heave" and then you will likely be left with cracks like we have.
