I was having a lot of trouble with my son. He was bottling up his emotions and he was being very difficult about opening up. Not only was he distant with me, he was distant from his brother as well, and generally had generally a bad attitude about life. Sean from Parenting Modern Teens worked with him one on one for 8 sessions. During that time my son came a long way. He is now opening up to me much more often and is even getting along with his brother better. His attitude is greatly improved. TL;DR: Dismissive, condescending, and self-glorifying. I recently booked a consultation for my teenage stepson. Sean was 12 minutes late to our appointment. When he finally did call, he offered no apology - or even acknowledgment - for his tardiness. During our 11-min call, Sean displayed no curiosity about my stepson or our family. He never asked about my husband (the father), the biological mother, nor much about my son himself. Instead, he fixated on "screen addiction," using it both as a reason my son couldn't be helped (odd, since it's a service he advertises) and as an excuse to promote his book on the subject. While our conversation was brief, Sean still managed to plug his book, his podcast, and his social media. Overall, Sean seems to be more interested in building his "brand" than in actually helping teenagers. Tellingly, Sean was dismissive of traditional therapy - presumably because he has no relevant credentials. He also seemed incensed that I was evaluating therapists / coaches for my son to ensure the right fit. All this taken together with a previous one-star review (and his respective rebuttal), I feel more even more certain about the importance of this step. I expect a similar dismissive rebuttal: that "it wasn't the right match" or "the parents weren't invested." Reframing any negative feedback into a parenting failure, and deflecting from the lack of professionalism and expertise that this line of work demands. read more

Parenting teens is no joke, and my husband and I found ourselves really lost with how to be the best, most connected versions of ourselves with our sons. We would flip flop from punishing to enabling, and our entire household felt out of equilibrium. Parenting Modern Teens was exactly the program we needed, and was well worth the investment. We leveraged both the individual coaching for one of our sons, and family coaching for all five of us. My husband and I would attend the weekly VIP sessions (even became lifetime members) and we found the tools and program highly effective when we stayed consistent. I'm not going to lie, though....this is HARD work that requires a willingness to really dig deep and make a lot of changes that can initially feel disruptive to the whole family. I was looking for some help for my teen and contacted Parenting Modern Teens. I promptly received a response that they would be able to help. I scheduled one session where Sean met with my son and then met with my husband and I. All started off on the right foot. It was strongly suggested that I sign up for their buy 8 classes for the price of 7 package. Of course I did and we started the process of meeting once a week. The first session, as Sean suggested, was for our family to meet. It went fine however on subsequent meetings with my son, it was clear that he was not won over, and at that point, as anyone with a teen knows, it's difficult to win back their trust and support. Here's my suggestion. If you go with this clinic, I wish you all the best. For me, it didn't work out. I expected a lot more insight into working with teens and the approach was clearly lacking. I think it's very important to pay a la carte as we are now stuck with sessions that we don't want to use, and the clinic offers no refunds whatsoever. All in all, a waste of money, time and energy. And we are not any closer to getting the help we need. read more

Your team helped us communicate better as a family. You were able to provide great tools for us to be able to create a family plan and Sean Potts was an excellent mediator and advisor to our family so that we were able to implement the family plan with everyone's buy in. The pandemic has been really hard on kids and especially teens in high school. We noticed that our son wasn't motivated to do much other than to play video games, sit in his room and stare at his phone for hours on end especially in 2020 and most of 2021. During this time it was hard to communicate with him and it just didn't seem like we were connecting. We reached out to Parenting Modern Teens after reading the reviews and were hoping that Sean and his team could help us make a change. I'm so glad we did! During our initial call, Sean D shared with my wife and I an overview of his program and asked us what our goals were for our son. The upfront leg work was definitely worth it as it set the stage for success later down the road. Sean Potts was assigned to our son. Sean P is great. Immediately, he built rapport with my son and created a nice relationship building trust which is the key to success in the program. He did a great job hearing my son out and understanding his fears and goals and gave him the tools to overcome challenges and achieve his goals. As each week went by, I began to see progress and it was encouraging to see. My wife and I looked forward to their meetings and seeing the slow positive transformation. The great thing about this program is that they provide kids with lifelong skills they will need to overcome challenges not just now but for the rest of their lives long after their parents are alive. I feel good knowing that he has those skills to apply in his life to be happy and successful. It was the best investment I could have made for my son and he is doing much better as a result of it. He is more accountable and getting him to take action is not such a struggle any longer. We liked the program so much that we even participated in the family sessions. I started coaching with Sean Potts a little less than a year ago. Before this, I was at a very low point in my life, on the verge of quitting school and abandoning a lot of my goals that I had originally set after high school. I was living at home and my relationship with my family felt like it was not heading in the right direction. I felt, in a way, that the world was slowly turning against me and I had no other direction to go in but downwards. I was fairly skeptical at first to attempt life coaching -- I felt it would be like therapy which is not what I wanted for myself. I didn't personally feel that I was in a condition to where I needed therapy, but rather advice and guidance as to what I need to do to feel satisfied with the circumstances that I am in. I wanted to believe that I can make a life for myself without relying completely on everyone around me. My initial take on coaching was completely wrong. After I met a couple times with Sean, I realized that this is nothing like therapy, but rather a window that helped me see what I am capable of doing for myself. Having Sean work with our teenage daughter was the best decision we could have made for her. Despite living in a home with siblings and parents that loved and respected her, our daughter's self esteem, self control and will to live was at a scary low. Today I am filled with joy and gratitude. How my life has transformed since first working with Sean nearly 3 years ago! I have known Sean for many years, both personally and professionally. sean's biggest problem is idea of trends. he wants to be trendy by speaking to use of team approach. team approach speaks to a huge fat bill owed or payments that are extremely high from a business owner that thinks his office in danville gain a lot of money. what an arrogant man. dump the idea being in san ramon, danville, alamo, walnut creek, orinda, lafayette is a great idea. instead head your lazy butt over into tracy and deal with the teens over there or better yet, head into fairfield and vacaville to restart your head shrink practice there and by the way ---- lose the team, team approach speaks to a bunch of newly graduated interns still working on their licensure. lose the concept of coach as your descriptive self description. teens need coaching like an extra hole in their head. teens need to go and spend some time volunteering on a weekly basis and each year chose one nonprofit organization and stick with it for each year of high school and if they don't care for it after 1st year, then find 2nd year a different nonprofit as if they are employed by an employer for a real paycheck. then repeat during their education in a two year or four year college or a vocational trade school, etc... that makes more sense then wasting away their parents love. most teens in trivalley are disillusion they are very important and then one day they realize they only needed to learn the world does not revolve around them. once they spend time in volunteering, they make life better for others then life is better for them because their lives start making sense.
