Rare perfumes and friendly service (5/5 green stars for Matiere Premiere perfume) I wandered into Clerys, to ask if they stocked Penhaligon's perfumes and the helpful lady directed me to Parfumarija, saying that if anyone in Dublin had it, it would be them. Feeling like Harry Potter buying his first wand, I followed her directions to Diagon Alley, oh I mean Clarendon Street. The Parfumarija is a small shop (compact and bijou!) tucked behind the Westbury Hotel. The store's pretty facade and location made me wonder if I belonged here, with my backpack and hoodie, but the whimsical fly agaric mushroom display in the window invited me to take a chance and enter. The lady in the store was totally helpful, telling me that they didn't stock Penhaligon's but, after I explained that I was after a "discovery set" (look at me, learning the parlance), she said that they had one from a good French perfume maker called Matiere Premiere. Being a cautious wizard and knowing nothing about perfume, I said I'd look into it and perhaps return. I should explain that I've had the Miley Cyrus song I can buy myself flowers running through my head all year and, in the end, I decided to take this bold step (after researching Matiere Premiere online, of course!). When I returned to buy the Matiere Premiere discovery set (€50 for a box of 10 x 1.5 mL samples, covering almost the entire Matiere Premiere range) the lady gave me two samples to go along with it. This was very generous of her as two samples would cost around €10, so it was like getting a 20% discount. Thank you, Parfumarija and nice lady for introducing me to a world of high-quality perfumes! I was glad, in the end, that you didn't stock Penhaligon's :D Normally I give each business that I review a Green Stars for social and environmental impact but in this case, I'm going to focus on the product that I bought. After all, the majority of the impact of this little store is due to the products that they sell. (I should mention that one of the free samples that I got was from another French perfume maker called Etat Libre D'Orange. Like Matiere Premiere, the entire Etat Libre D'Orange range is vegan and cruelty-free.) I'm giving Matiere Premiere 5/5 Green Stars for social and environmental impact, based on the following: * Matiere Premier's founder Aurélien Guichard is the only perfumer to grow his own ingredients (Rose Centifolia and Tuberoses). Matiere Premiere means "raw material" and a key company ethos is the ethical sourcing of raw materials. * In 2016, Guichard founded an organic farm (Ecocert) in the Grasse region of France, a perfume hub that was recognized in 2018 as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. * The perfumes are vegan and cruelty-free (and also phthalate-free). * Matiere Premiere perfumes contain between 85% and 92% natural ingredients. The main ingredient and the country that it's sourced from, is named for each perfume. * Synthetic ingredients are used judiciously as they can be great substitutes for ingredients that may negatively impact nature/wildlife. * Guichard says, "as a producer of perfume flowers myself, I tend to prioritize partners who share similar ethical, fair trade and environmentally-friendly principles." * For example, for the most recent Vanilla Powder fragrance, Matiere Premiere "uses a vanilla absolute from Madagascar issued from a Fair for Life agricultural program, which protects local know-how and minimizes any negative impact on the environment." This is particularly important as Madagascar is one of the poorest countries in Africa. * Perfume bottles and the discovery set use a fairly minimal quantity of packaging. Ireland's first niche perfume store! Sells some of the most interesting names in perfumery that you will not find anywhere else in the country, including the infamously odd-ball house Etat Libre d'Orange. If you're really into fragrances, or if you'd just like to try something new, Parfumarija is a beautiful shop with very knowledgable, articulate staff who live for fragrance and really encourage you to expand your horizons and find the right scent for your personality. Niche perfumes are quite expensive, but they typically use very good quality ingredients and last a long time, so if you find something you love, it's money well spent I think. Bought a beautiful scent here as a Christmas gift for myself, and I'm sure I'll be back for my birthday! :D Try it out! read more
Deserves a 5. The two girls that served us today couldn't have been any more helpful and patient. This is our third trip here and you really cannot compare the products sold here to the high street designer brands. Prices are higher but on some ranges perhaps only by 20 euro. They can make a bespoke fragrance just for you or select from the many niche fragrances such as Amouage, Illuiminun, Agonist etc. Well worth a visit of only just to try something new. read more
This place is amazing. The owner is passionate about her job and a trained perfumarie. The brands are nothing you will have seen in Ireland before. No celebrity endorsements. No generic packaging. Just beautiful fragrances. The owner told me perfume should be like a wardrobe; you should wear what you feel in the moment. The shop is modern, crisp and classy. Definitely worth a visit. read more
What a wonderful place! Lovely, bright space. The staff there are so knowledgeable. They're so patient as you try to pick a new scent and they let you test a number and will also suggest alternatives. We had a lovely chat with the owner who is a classically trained perfumer after I'd eventually chosen my birthday present. Clear that she is v passionate and proud of the niche perfumes you can get here. So if you are looking for something very special this is the place to visit. read more

If I could give this establishment 6 stars I would. The shopping experience is simply phenomenal. Maria know everything about all of her perfumes and can effortlessly tell you the entire story of its development and who developed it. I would not have put myself down as a fragrance fan but after telling her the name of one scent I had admired in the past she was able to choose a selection which were just down my street. I don't think I have ever met someone who knew her job as well as her and her enthuasim and knowledge pass to the buyer as if by osmosis she communicates it so well. There is a fantastic range in her store, really something for everyone. I would recommend for anyone in Dublin to go and visit. There is absolutely nothing to fault. read more

What can i say. I am a perfumeaholic and happened accross this magnificent shop in Westbury Mall last week. It was hands down the most pleasant experience i have every had in a shop in Dublin. I can guarantee you if you visit the store you won't be disappointed. There is nothing quite like it in the country. I have never met anybody who has such knowledge of her product - but this lady certainly does and it makes a huge difference - especially when you are looking for something different. There is a story behind each bottle of perfume and she tells it well - you almost feel like you are experiencing the story as she tells it. If you purchase in this shop and you live outside of Dublin i can guarantee you that you will have something special that nobody else will have!!!!. Its just amazing........................and products are reasonably priced. I'm already looking forward to my next visit!!. Sarah D read more
