I wish Yelp would allow a no-star review when a restaurant fails in such a spectacular way. I will be as concise as possible in order to exactly describe our experience last evening. We were guests in what our hosts described as "their favorite restaurant" and Yelp awards a 4-stars review...my conclusion was: either the restaurant was having a really bad night or reviewers have lost their understanding of what a 4-stars restaurant should be like. Our hosts ordered a bottle of white Bordeaux which the owner poured in our glasses as if she was pouring the lowly Sarasota water, filled our glasses almost to the top practically emptying the bottle. Then it was time to order, the lady host asked for the foie gras appetizer which she had absolutely recommended...Sorry, we are out! Appetizers: we ordered 2 Escargots, and the Homemade Country Pâté. The Escargots in herb butter were tasteless (I had to add some salt) and one of the snails was full of stones and grit. Main course: I asked for the Homemade Country Pâté which was portioned significantly less than what our host had gotten...was it to punish me for ordering 2 appetizers? My husband ordered the lamb chops...4 chops cooked to the point where they were tough, and a potato gratin reminiscent of a brick. Our hosts ordered the Pork Marco Polo and the Smoked Salmon Salad. I cannot comment on their entrees even though a comment was made that the pork was overcooked. The Salmon Salad did not look appetizing. But, the 'pièce de resistance' was when our host ordered Crêpe Suzette and was told that 'we are out of orange jam'...whaaat? You can find orange jam in any grocery store, you should never run out of orange jam. We have dined in many restaurant that we felt were subpar, this one won first price. Needless to say, will never go back. read more

Overall a fantastic, intimate restaurant with delicious French cuisine. Paris Bistrot offers array of decadent French dishes, all of which were excellent! Our server, Pierre, was kind and attentive, and gave great recommendations for food and drinks. I dined with a large party, and each course was perfectly timed. All of the food was fantastic. We enjoyed the Gorgonzola salad, hot brie salad, French onion soup, canard a l'orange, chicken normandie and an array of crepes for dessert. Really 3 1/2 stars close to 4 We were up in UTC so we decided to try this place. Sat outside on a very nice Florida evening. Got a good table. Server was very nice and attentive. I think he was actually taking care of the whole place by himself! Onion soup was good. We both enjoyed it. My partner got a salad that was ok but she said it could've been a bit more substantial - I understand that the French don't do big servings which is preferable by us - but this was even a bit under for them. For a special occasion I got to pick the restaurant last night and came up with Paris Bistrot. I love French, and it was more reasonably priced than other upscale places I considered. We made reservations a few days earlier. Paris Bistrot is a smallish place, 10 or 12 tables indoors and a few more outside, so reservations, at least for dinner, will ensure you can get in. I had checked out the menu online and knew what I wanted, their French Onion Soup and Beef Bourguignon. Our efficient servers took good care of us. Nothing went quickly but also not too slowly as they handled a full restaurant. The restaurant had a pleasant feel with white tablecloths, bottles of wine on display, and wall hangings that included images of the Eiffel Tower. There was background music playing but it was so soft vs the rather loud conversation noise in the room that I couldn't tell if it was French, Christmas, or something else. As for the food, unfortunately we were not that impressed. For my soup, I felt it lacked flavor. It certainly wasn't salty. Although I think sometimes French onion soup is over salty to hide a weak broth, in this case the watery broth was just that. The cheese, while abundant and texturally spot on, did not contribute much to the flavor. My Beef Bourguignon was better, but again could have used some salt. The beef was very tender, the gravy didn't really stand out at all. I missed the richness. Serving sizes were more European than big plate American, I suppose not really a bad thing - lol. My wife was also not that impressed with her Filet de Boeuf, thinking it was not that good of a cut of meat. I actually got to try some of hers with the blue cheese sauce and very much liked it, best thing I ate. read more

We had a really lovely dinner here. We came to celebrate my father's birthday with both my parents and my husband. We had a reservation, as did several other people. It was a very busy night for them, we saw other people struggling to keep their reservation time. We had to wait a little bit to be seated, but it wasn't a problem. We sat outside on a lovely night. The food and drink were great as well. We started out with some wine my parents picked out that they seemed to really like, and some escargots du bistro for the table. Those of us brave enough to try the snails we're delighted with how good they were, and the parsley garlic butter they came in wasn't half bad either. For myself, I ordered an appetizer and an entree from the Chef's Menu. The French onion soup and the beef Bourguignon were lovely. I hoped for the portion size to be a bit bigger, but nevertheless loved the delicate taste of it. Overall, we had a great experience. Our first time, and as lovers of bistro fare and wine, we never know what we'll find. We brought our own wines, a pair of older Southern Rhones - and happily paid the $15 corkage. We find many restaurants do not have the ability to offer wines with some age, and most French bottlings need time to reach their potential. In addition, no vintages are shown on the wine list, so one can expect younger wines. The atmosphere in this cozy spot is terrific and you might think you arrived in Paris. The owner, Jean Christophe, works the floor service was excellent throughout our meal. We had the Chicken Normande, which my wife thought was outstanding, and I had the Cassoulet which was good but a bit dry. Think I'll try the Pork Marco Polo next time. The Pomme-Calva dessert crepe was interesting- the apple was fresh but larger pieces inside the melt-in-your-mouth crepe made it seem "lumpy" and chewy in comparison to the beautiful crepe wrapper. Loved it! Our server Harvey did a good job. The onion soup is awesome. The hot brie salad is great. The pork Marco Polo has a delicious sauce but the meat was just a little overcooked. Harvey had recommended the filet with the same sauce and he was right. The curry shrimp was very good, almost as good as our favorite place in St. Martin. The malbec was tasty and the bread was good. Silly of me to expect a European atmosphere in Fl. Way too many loud conversations about personal lives and problems. Wouldn't be bad if it was in a more toned down conversational nature. First the food: my wife had the Marco Polo pork tenderloin and she loved it. This time I had the Cassoulet and it was very tasty. Being Valentines we took advantage of their $15 corkage deal and brought a spectacular Chateauneuf du Pape. It makes a huge difference. Now for the really good part. There were mostly couples there enjoying a romantic dinner but before long we found ourselves in friendly conversation with 2 or 3 other tables close by. Went here based on the recommendation of a Sarasota local. It did not disappoint! Everything was delicious but the best item was the Veggie Risotto with added chicken (not pictured). Come here for the French music and the sandwiches and crepes that are excellent. The new Paninis are also delicious. The coffee is strong. Beside the 12 or so inside tables, a bar that can seat about 6 or 8, there is also dog-friendly sidewalk tables covered with umbrellas. The breakfast menu does have a few selections but the major appeal here are those sandwiches all served with a mixed salad. The French baguette bread is crusty and the portions are generous. Leave room so you can have a dessert crepe. They are perfect and add a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream to really make it a decadent moment. Yes, the crepes are large to share with my favorite being the pear and Nutella. Escape the heat, come in for a meal, but be patient. This is the reason for the 4-stars, never enough servers. On this Saturday morning, there were 2 servers on the floor and not one table available inside or outside. Even the bar had folks waiting for their meal. The service was really lacking. The coffee cups are tiny 6 ounces, so refills are needed frequently, yet no one was available to bring coffee. Even after you ask for it, the server was so busy taking orders and bringing food to other tables, or seating new arrivals, that they had no time to take care of the existing customers waiting for coffee, silverware, napkins, menus, waters, spoons for the ice cream. You get what I mean. Especially on the weekends in a thriving area, with plenty of competitive dining restaurants, you need to have staff to serve and attend to your guests or guests will not come back. read more

I ordered two slices of quiche lorraine to go online, and it was ready quickly for pick up. The quiche was very cheesy with a good amount of sliced ham cut into small squares so I got some in each bite. The slices were square with a buttery, layered flakey crust that wasn't too over powering or too thin. I thought the price at around $12 was a great deal because it included a fresh side salad of leafy greens, tomatoes and what seemed to be a homemade creamy, but light, French dressing. So, I was going to my regular craft spot and figured I'd grab a bite to eat. So, I parked next to the glorious bistro that was filled with people people watching. I guess this is what people do in France at the cafe. So, I'm intrigued by the crowd I go in. The menu in my opinion was lackluster. So, I asked for the special and it was eggs Benedict with shrimp and avocado. Now I'm not a shrimp fan but I figured let's give it a whirl. But to be on the safe side I had 1 bacon as well. It took a while for them to prepare this sensory delight. You see the picture right. Well forget it the pleasure is all in your mouth. Best eggs Benedict ever. Just simply beautiful. The sauce looked thick but was actually really light and buttery and decadent. And, when you had the bacon and the sauce it was just the perfectly necessary hint of salt. Yum yum. Then the bread now I never really thought about just how bread can make or break and egg yolk. But somehow the egg yolk made the buttery notes of the bread stand out. Man oh man eggs Benedict will never be the same after this. And, to add the the experience the chef can look out over the customers. And he did and after my first blissful bite I could see that he saw I loved it. You could see the joy from him all over his face.
