I've been coming here since the 90's and LOVE the beach outside the Park Royal. The waves are wonderful. The people at the hotel are very friendly. Unfortunately everything else is pretty terrible. The food was so god awful at dinner the first night (all buffet) we left and walked to town to eat. We didn't eat dinner again at the hotel and unfortunately lunch was equally terrible. Low quality, greasy meats and flavorless salads and side dishes. The open bar is all fake juices and bottom shelf alcohols that give an instant hangover. I didn't sleep well a single night as their club POUNDS music loudly into the rooms until 2am; I even switched rooms and unfortunately it echoes through the whole place, even on the 19th floor. So this is my first time doing an all-inclusive package thingie. Not bad! Park Royal resort is right on the beach: white sand, warm blue water. Massage huts a quick 5 minute walk down the beach ($15 USD + tip.) A walk-in pool with floating bar, snack hut, multiple bars, and a couple of restaurants doesn't leave you much for want. But if you do need sundries or want to shop a little, "town" is just a few minutes' walk on the boulevard too. At the time I was here, the hotel was building their own little store within the resort. While the hotel room isn't the nicest or most comfortable, it's clean and has what you need. The people who work here are really phenomenal. I wouldn't have been able to tell the difference between 5-star hotel staff in the States and Park Royal. Frankly, the people here are warmer so this place wins in my book. Being in a tropical environment, rooms smelled a little mildewy but I wouldn't consider that unusual. Good things to note: - It's all-inclusive. Food, alcohol, etc. The price? A smoking deal, is all I got to say - The water/ice is potable throughout the resort. The food that you eat is washed in potable water so no worries on that front - Laundry service is available, or you can handwash clothes in your sink to dry on your personal balcony (January means mid- to late 80's so clothes dry lickety-split) - Don't lose your beach towel card or let your beach towel out of your sight. It costs you about $25 USD to get a new towel card - Food isn't the best but it's not the worst either. Set your expectations for buffet food in a tiny town in Mexico and you'll be just fine - Multiple activities are available here. Parasailing, karaoke, child-friendly activities and daycare. Great for families! - Zihuatanejo is a short drive away. I had hoped to see Andy and Red but they were no doubt working on their boat - An ATM is available at the hotel down the street called Emporio. You'll want to have plenty of USD or pesos to tip the staff :) I'm looking forward to returning next year! read more

Stayed here for 3 nights. Price was very fair considering it was late January. Upon arrival we were greeted by English speaking personnel and helped us with your bags. As previously stated, try to go all inclusive if possible. The reason I'm giving this place four stars is because there is no room service. Other than that, we enjoyed our stay! read more

This place was decent a couple years ago and it just went down hill the food is gross the place was dirty!!!! So many kids running around with parents not caring what they do. I even had someone pound on my door one night! Definitely not coming back here again I suggest staying in Zihuatanejo instead they have super nice beaches that are privet. Also look out the people here at the hotel will insist and insist on you upgrading your time share and it's seriously not worth it at all since you still need to pay a whole package for food and drinks and it's not even worth it since the food and drinks here are horrible. read more

Currently staying at the Park Royal through RCI exchange. The room is nice and clean but is missing simple things like a safe, coffee maker and fridge. Friends of ours are staying at the Krystal so we went for a visit to find their rooms far more stocked (even booze). The buffet restaurants both serve the same things and breakfast at both is usually poor. The one thing that I think is absolutely exceptional is the staff at the Moby Dick bar. Fantastic bunch that give regulars extra attention and even make frozen drinks fresh. This alone may persuade me to revisit again. read more

Do not come during the summer months. This place is so crowded with locals that are also on vacation. Tons of kids running around everywhere! Pool is crowded from opening to closing (8pm). Its also not the cleanest. Rooms are clean but because of the high humidity here there are alot of bugs and tiny ants. Dont forget your Bug Off! Service is really hit or miss. Some servers at the restaurants really cater to you for their tip while others seem to not care at all. Food here is also hit or miss. Most of the time its not so great. Do not book an excursion through this hotel to visit the Island of Ixtapa for snorkeling, they over charge you and their excursion takes you to the " not so nice" side of the island. The restaurant on that side is gross, service is horrble and they will give you one price for something at first but later when its time to pay, they triple the rate! Make sure you go to the restroom before you go to the island! You are better off taking a water taxi to the island and doing your own thing. The beach by this hotel is nice and you can do parasailing and other activities right off the beach for very cheap! Will come back to visit Ixtapa, but will definitely stay somewhere else. read more
