The hill has a history of its own; in the early 1900 it was the home of a community of artists, who were advocating for a carefree lifestyle, based on nudism, healthy diet and sports. The restaurant there on top, besides the wonderful view, still holds on to the (food related) principles of its founders, so it's worth climbing up there for lunch, if you happen to be close by. Don't worry, it's unlikely that you'll be welcomed by nudist waiters :)

The hotel villa Sassa is definitly well placed on top of Lago di Lugano with a wonderful view on…read morethe lake and the mountains. Some of the many rooms the hotel must have are close to a quite noisy street. The infrastructure is definitely of a 4 star hotel - especially good and really also state of the art and very spacious is the fitness area. That's probably also one if the reasons why the Swiss national football team (Nati) is also staying in this hotel when they have a match in Italy. The infrastructure of the rest of the hotel is from the 80/90ies but the prices definitely from a todays 4 star hotel. In oder words - a quite good hotel but way too expensive for the outdated infrastructure.

Be it the special welcome drink in combination with a very warm welcome, the proactive suggestions how to get the most from your stay at Lago Maggiore (e.g. by taking a ride with the hotel's own Thömus bikes) or the spa area. All this goes with a superior service - be in the recently renovated rooms or the restaurant and bar. Definitely, one of the best hotels in Switzerland with a very family-like touch. Though not inexpensive, but more than worth the money. We will for sure return for a longer stay.
