[Note for entering the aiport: from any side, metro or driving, youcwill need to show a boarding pass. I came from the metro on a Wedsnesday at 10am and the entry line was only about 20 people and the attendant allowed one person to come in with me. The outside line if you drive seems a lot more confusing and long] If arriving from T4, the metro is just a skip away. For T1-3 its a good 15 min walk to check in and another 5min to TSA if you walk at a good upbeat pace. [FYI on Dec 2025 you still have to take out liquids with the 3 oz rule, and remove your shoes.] Once you're through security, there are lots of places to eat and shop but be mindful of which gate you're departing from. My gate was A9 and after security it was an additional 15ish minutes. There were no proper signs once you got to A8 indicating where A9 was until i walked towards the restaurants and notice a flight of stairs going down with a sign reading A9-16. Once you're downstairs, there are no restaurants or shops and it gets chillier. You will have to take a bus to board so make sure youre not counting on sprinting through the gate at the last minute. There are also very limited seats. I was there 2 hours prior to boarding and got a seat, but an hour after there were no seats left. Wifi is free but limited plugs. I only took off 2 stars because the employees are neither friendly nor knowledgeable so beware of their directions. Whatever you do, do not come off strong or you will get NOWEHERE. I saw a couple get slightly frustrated and that only got them in a bigger problem. I also took out stars for lack of visible signage.

The traffic was bad and the departure gates were difficult to navigate. When we got dropped off, it was difficult to find an entry to the building where the doors would actually open. There were very few doors available and the doors had long queues to get in because they checked everyone's boarding passes at the doors. The door that we were able to enter in was over 100 check in desks from where we needed to be. The security line was also a little bit confusing. There was very limited signage, but they do require that electronics be taken out of the bags. The areas by the gates were not the most clean. A lot of the seats were dirty and there was trash in a lot of areas. The restrooms were fairly clean and there was good signage for finding gates.

And the bus should not be considered as a public transport as we got on the bus the driver told us in a nasty tone to get on and for the bus SO crowded and not sanitary and we arrived late to the terminal do to the fact that the driver was was taking wrong turns and also the lack of English in this airport is zero for an international airport at least the duty free was nice

Our issue was finding the correct train to get to the airport from our Airbnb, which was a cluster but that doesn't have anything to do with the airport. The airport itself is pretty busy but we got through customs and got to our gate in a surprisingly decent time. Sadly the Starbucks in the area we waited in was closed but oh well. All in all, all of the employees we encountered were really nice and we had a good experience at this airport.

So, when looking for flights from home to FCO recently and coming across a multi-leg American Airlines flight that used Iberia for the last leg, I was happy to select Iberia. Boarding was easy, but I'm OneWorld Emerald, so I was able to board in Group 0, so pretty much immediately. Once on board, the staff was very friendly and helpful. The main FA came to acknowledge my status and offered me extra assistance as well. The flight was nice and smooth and quicker than on time, getting from MAD to FCO 30 minutes early. I'd definitely fly Iberia again.

This terminal is the stand-alone terminal whereas the terminal 1-3 are connected together. If…read moreyou're using the metro it is the last stop. If you get lost you can take one of the green shuttle buses which are free to get to terminal 4. This terminal has the most restaurants and stores to choose from. The seating are limited around the checking in portion, but once you get to the gate, then it is like any other airport.
