It's a music festival, so yeah, there is some drug & drinking culture, but amongst it all there are some well good experiences to be had!
Unlike the more established Big Day Out and Womad, Parklife is almost entirely focused on music. This has it's advantages, not once was I distracted long enough to miss an act I wanted to see. Some of the traditional festival atmosphere is lost in the lack of variety of entertainment, but not entirely, there are bars.
The bars were well staffed, and apart from the rush when the beverage per person limit dropped from 4 to 2 at 7pm, the lines moved reasonably quickly. The can return/drink token system did seem to make it a tidier festival, however getting a $1 token per empty can did seem to encourage drinking that little bit more.
At the end of the day, after all the random strangers, and the even more random Adelaidians who remember you from somewhere, when only one guy tries to by pills off you, it's been a good festival. read more
