In town for work. Came in for a late breakfast. The joint is an old school diner car. My coworker had some type of egg scramble. I ordered a Smash Burger with a salad. The burger came out quickly so I thought it was going to be dry as a lizards back in summer in the Gobi desert. It was the polar opposite. It was juicy and the veg within was crisp and fresh, the side salad wasn't too bad either. Tried their homemade balsamic vinaigrette...tasty. The young blonde waitress was cute as a button. I rose early to schlepp up to Burlington for the eclipse. I had a ticket for an event hosted at/by the Burlington Airport, and was expecting traffic to be astronomically bad (pun intended). I lucked out with traffic and had several hours to kill, plus a minimal breakfast at home meant I was hungry. I had a mission: find food that wasn't an overpriced bag of chips from Hudson News. I found the Parkway Diner about a half-mile away, and it seemed to fit the bill perfectly. It was notably busy (surprise, surprise), but there were a couple counter seats available, and I was able to park myself in (on?) one. After seeing a Breakfast Burrito Bowl leaving the kitchen bound for another table, it was decided. Pancakes could wait until next time. I found this dish was filling and solid in the flavors department, but there were still some key issues keeping it in 3-star territory. First the good: the eggs and potatoes were cooked very nicely, and the pico topping seemed very fresh. On the not-great side, the bacon and cheese was rather sparse. As for the avocado, it seemed to be a couple days from being ripe. Finally, I get that pico and avocado are from the fridge, but cold ingredients on top of hot eggs leads to room temperature everything. Having them off to, or on the side may be a better bet. Finally, where it comes to the service, because of how busy it was, I will give them the benefit of the doubt. No one was standing around twiddling their thumbs, and a machine was well oiled as my breakfast haunt back home is one of a kind. A couple extra minutes are easily forgiven, however, a "we'll be right with you" would have been appreciated. Thus, an A-OK diner for getting some food in you, but not a foodie destination by any means. read more

Genuine 50's diner - food was good, service was good. Only a brief wait for a booth on a weekday at around 10 am. The only negative I had was that it was really warm in there - granted it was a hot day (for Vermont and pretty much everywhere in the NE- in the 90's), so the AC probably just wasn't ready for that temp. We were the second table in the diner for breakfast when we showed up for breakfast this morning around 7:10am. For $43, we got a cold and hard toast, room temperature home fries & hard bacon strips. The worst was the inedible biscuits and sausage gravy that made my son gag when he tried to eat them. He couldn't even eat the scrambled eggs because of what was presented as sausage biscuits & gravy. The server either didn't pay attention enough to see she picked up an almost full plate of food from my son and a plate from me that only had the eggs & bacon eaten, or she did and didn't care enough to ask what was clearly not right. The Parkway Diner is the place for home cooked meals with all ingredients from scratch. Everything is homemade and prepared spot on. No hollandaise from a jar here! We had the traditional eggs Benedict and the biscuits and gravy with a side of homemade hash. The Benedict was SO delicious. Very well done sauce and the potatoes were crisp and delicious. Hash was a tad oily and salty but sometimes you want that from a hash. Biscuits were flakey and the sausage gravy was flavorful but a bit less than the biscuits deserved. The ambiance is as retro, 50's diner as they come, right down to the worn Formica counter and Coca Cola napkin dispensers. Be advised that while the staff is friendly, they simply don't have enough staff for the constant, steady stream of hungry patrons. You may have to wait a bit. But the food is worthwhile. And who would expect a diner to have mimosas and Bloody Mary's? All in all a great spot and the chef has a lot to be proud of. The food was first rate - the fries were probably the best I have ever eaten in my life and the burger was perfect. We found our server, River, to be informative, cheerful, and welcoming. The Parkway is re-opened. Rumor of its death are greatly exaggerated; Seven Days reported it would be re-opening soon, and it has! So we stopped in this morning for breakfast. My spouse had a waffle, with sides of home fries, and bacon. I had the classic Benedict. The food was great; and they have real, pure Vermont maple syrup on the table, so don't let the diner appearances fool you. The home fries were crispy and perfectly seasoned, and the hollandaise on the Benedict was great. The ramshackle old sign was refreshed, but the diner had minor updates to keep its historical value and appearance, and they did a great job. Service was friendly, prompt, and attentive. Definitely will use this as a breakfast spot when we're in the area for errands and such. read more

Not sure how the kitchen managed to get us cold food when we can see the serving window, but it tasted like it sat out for 20 minutes. They certainly didnt have enough staff because we waited an extremely long time for our food and for the check. $50 for two coffess and 2 breakfast meals is ridiculous, especially of this poor quality. So I don't have photos and I regret not snapping a few to show you all....my mother and I went out (hard finding a decent breakfast spot in Williston area) anyways we decided on this place as we were driving by...we both got three egg omelettes and they were so soooo tiny....there was so much room on the plate for more...but it was just SO small. For around 40$ we both got tiny little omelette and house made toast (which was definitely delicious) service was fast (can't imagine it took long to make that tiny little omelette.) Lol. It didn't come with home fries and nobody brought me jam for my toast...(I asked) So. I haven't even ordered my food yet, and I'm already 5-starring this place if only for the adorable ambience (I read in no other reviews about the fact that this place is a TRAIN CAR!), the super friendly service, delicious orange juice, and the fact that they serve cold brew. They were out by the time I arrived, but their ice coffee (brewed hot, and cooled overnight) did not taste like the typical crappy ice coffee. It was a very comparable substitute for cold brew, I even drank it black. I am a cold brew snob (I make my own at home) and this ice coffee is pretty great. Ok I just ordered the burrito bowl and the server said it was their favorite, so I have a great feeling about this. So far, a quintessential diner experience. read more
