I am from the United States, here in Brazil for the first time visiting my husband's family. He is from Maceio, so we have been trying all the eating joints here!
This restaurant is one of my husband's family's go-to places. Here in Brazil, it's a chain of restaurants. My tastes are likely different because I'm not from here, but I really enjoyed the Carne de Sol. It was my favorite thing we ordered. The cheese on top was delicious, and excellent paired with the vinaigrette (like pico de Gallo).
The mixed plate of meats has breaded shrimp, steak, and chicken covered in ham, cheese, and tomato sauce. That dish wasn't my favorite, but maybe the combination of those things is just very different from what I'm used to. The fries were very plain, but again, may be a cultural thing. To me they needed more salt and ketchup.
It is interesting to me how many starches they pair with each entree. We ordered 2 entrees and got rice, French fries, spaghetti, beans with farofa, and mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoes were also not my favorite, because I'm used to them tasting different, less puréed maybe.
Overall, my husband's family (native to Maceió) would give it 4 stars, and I would give it 3, but take that with a grain of salt due to cultural differences. I would totally order the Carne de Sol again. read more
