The High Alter and Chancel area are incredibly beautiful. I have attached some photos of it, along with the Organ pipes above the Narthex. The Jesuit architects Étienne Martellange and François Derand, built the present building at the request of Louis XIII in the early seventeenth century. LOL What makes the church important is it's Baroque style, rather then the prevalent Gothic of the time. It's introduction changed Parisian religious architecture and is exquisite to see. On PBS Masterpiece Theater's Les Misérables, Cosette and Marius were married here. Sadly like Notre-Dame, Église Saint-Paul Saint-Louis du Marais was plundered during the French Revolution when many of its artworks were destroyed. That felt so good, and I felt so blessed and so much lighter afterwards. Best of all, It's a block away from the metro station, a few blocks from our hotel, and right across so many delicious restaurants, boulangerie and chocolates all in the heart of the fashion district, La Marais, Paris. The Cathedral named after him was close to our hotel, so we took a walk on a wet Tuesday morning. It is very imposing, being visible alone amongst the far smaller buildings near the Gare du Nord. Once we climbed the front steps, we found an open door to the side that we could enter. The first thing you notice are the high ceilings that you would expect in a cathedral. We spent a few minutes examining the church and took a moment for quiet reflection.

So, let's just be respectful when entering a place where people go and worship. Overall this place looks stunning and the stained glass windows look so pretty. The most beautiful church in all of Paris…read more Really beautiful how every side altar is dressed and ready for Mass. Even Notre Dame and Sacre Coure seem like touristy places, where as this church seems to transport you back in time, when the church was the heart of a city. When I was here, they had priests walking around, praying their breviary and nuns cleaning. People actually come here to pray and spend time with the blessed Sacrament. A MUST see in Paris for true Catholics.

There was nothing "extremist" about the parishioners who were of all races. I was surprised to see so many young people. The sermon spoke of parables that teach us to exhibit kindness and charity. If one considers Traditionalists "extremists" then don't bring one's negative energy to this place. If this is what "right wing" is then it's definitely not the wrong wing.

I assume it has been recently renovated since the poster that was there in 2009 visited. It is considered to be the first Gothic church. Queens were often crowned here. And it was the place where the kings and their queens and families were buried. Marie Antoinette and King Louis XVI are buried there along with almost every other King and Queen of France. It is full of historical significance. It is really odd that it is not a number one tourist destination. Def. a must see. I didn't give it five stars because as a non-traditional full time student studying History (Over the age of 26) I have grown tired of going to these museums in Paris and having to pay at many of them while my class mates, in the same program, at the same school get in free. It's annoying.. If they are going to allow students with a valid Student ID card in then they should allow all students with a valid Student ID card in.. It sort of sucks to be the only one of the group that has to pay every other time. Plus the audio tour seemingly skips sections so there you have it. Still a must see if you have any interest in French History!

This is a short train journey outside Paris but definitely worth making the trip as this huge and…read moregloomy cathedral houses the tombs of the French royal family from the earliest times right through to Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette. It is really dark and atmospheric inside and hasn't been prettied up at all, unlike Notre Dame or similar but that just adds to the experience. Some of the royal tombs, like those of Francois I or Henri II are really spectacular with figures kneeling on top and then underneath lifesized, hideous depictions of their decomposing bodies, complete with worms. Really unappealing and yet fascinating at the same time. The tombs of Louis and Marie Antoinette, which were erected after the Bourbon restoration feature the royal couple kneeling in prayer and are well worth seeing.

The church two round towers like Roman engineer design. It show a lot of columns in the tower. This design is different than most pointy roof church structures. The inner back room is the prayers room with Virgin Mary and baby Jesus. The high roof structure is seen in this church. The reason I said it need repair because many of the windows are board up. The chapel has a lot of black smoke roof or wall.

The beauty, the age, the number of individuals praying inside, the music, the smell - everything was powerful to me. I sat in a seat and prayed and took time to be grateful in Paris.
