Large, green, and filled with trees, this park is full of people participating in a variety of activities. There's even a big dog park for pet owners! Throughout the park there are tracks and walkways and there's a nice lake in the center. The only downside, and this is a major disappointment, is that there might be looters and criminals after sunset, so pay attention to your surroundings! Our stroll through the park got us hungry, so we decided to find a nearby restaurant. We stumbled upon this place with nice open seating, so we decided to stay for lunch. It's actually within the park on the southwest corner, but I couldn't find it on Yelp. Jardim Churrascada is the name of the restaurant, and it was my first time trying Brazilian biro-biro rice - their version of fried rice - and it was delicious! It pairs well with any type of meat. With the perfect weather, we had a really lovely brunch. São Paulo is a nice city and has so much potential to become one of the world's top megacities if only the government were less corrupt and were more proactive in developing and fine tuning the city's infrastructures. read more

Spent several days wandering around this park for a Pokemon Go event. The park was clean, safe, had adequate restroom facilities, several restaurants and food vendors, and a long network of paved paths to walk (or run, bike, etc.) around the park. I stayed in a nearby hotel and walked to and from the park several times a day, and always felt entirely safe doing so. read more

Truly one of my favorite places I visited when I was in São Paulo. I arrived on an Itaú bike from Avenida Paulista with a tour guide. We rode along the streets which I would have never tried to do alone mainly because I wouldn't have known my way around without using my phone - all I had to do was follow my guide. It was mostly down hill. Once at the park, we rode around to see various areas - the bridge that overlooks one of the ponds. The water is murky, but you can see black and orange fish swimming below. There are plenty of areas in the park to sit and relax. I saw benches made of fallen tree trunks, an area of food trucks, a cafe where you can dine outdoors, drink / snack stands, and regular benches along the many paths. It was very sunny the day I was there, but there were a lot of places that contained shade for pulling over to rest. There are public restrooms near the cafe and vending machines. I saw a trio of women who were walking a bunch of dogs (definitely over 20 I think... maybe 30?). That was fun to see because cachorros e cachorras são fofo muitos. There is the Museu Afro Brasil, Oca (art museum), a planetarium, and many monuments located inside Parque do Ibirapuera. I did not have the chance to go inside any of them, but I did see some monuments when I would ride along paths. The bike / running paths run along the outer perimeter. The larger side of the path are for those who walk or have strollers. Be mindful when passing people and if you have to take a break and stop to pull to the side. Lots of people were there, but it wasn't overcrowded. People come here to exercise, walk dogs, chat with friends and family, relax by the grass, take pictures, bike, rollerblade, etc. Bringing a journal or book is what I wish I had done when I was here... and a blanket to sit on the grass. There are bike rentals at one of the main entrances I saw - so if you don't have an Itaú bike, there will be park ones you can rent from. Itaú bike stations are also not far from the park! The station my guide had shown me at the end of our tour was later filled up by the time I was ready to leave so I had to use my phone to try to locate other stations nearby. It did take me kind of a while to figure out how to get out of the park even though I had been riding along the same paths back and forth trying to prevent the very thing of getting lost, LOL. I was able to locate my backup bike docking station - a couple blocks away from the smaller park gate I exited from. I did have to cross a busy street and bike along a narrow sidewalk, but it wasn't dangerous. I enjoyed açaí and the beautiful sun and being outdoors. There is an area where there are curved bamboo trees - they're tall and create this really pretty background for a picture. I could have spent all day here (I stuck around a couple hours after my tour had ended). I had planned on making a return trip before my trip ended, but plans shifted. You can bet I'll be back here next time I'm in SP though! It kind of reminded me of smaller Central Park (NYC). I would suggest bringing sun protection (lotion, hat, umbrella, sunglasses, etc.) The park also has multiple entrances/exits so if you're taking Uber make sure you're marking the correct locations. read more

Ibirapuera Park was definitely one of my favorite places I visited in all of Sao Paulo. It is in the middle of the city and is like their version of Central Park. Apparently, it is the most visited park in South America, and with good reason. There is so much to see and do there. Spread out throughout the park are a lot of monuments and sculptures. These include the massive Monument to the Bandeiras, the Obelisk, and the Pedro Alvares Cabral Monument. During your visit, make sure to find all of these and they are very large and beautiful works of art. Many museums are also found in the park. There is the Afro Brasil Museum, the Oca, the Planetarium, and a Japanese garden. You can literally spend the whole day wandering around the park. Even if you do not visit any of the museums, it's a great place to have a leisurely walk. read more

Once we arrived in Brazil, the first stop on our trip was Sao Paulo. We stayed at an Airbnb in Jardins Paulista which was within walking distance from Parque do Ibirapuera. Sampa's most famous urban parks was one of the first places we checked out. Beyond nature, there are museums, auditoriums, statues, and more. We walked around a bit and enjoyed the foliage and the lake surrounding the park. There was a little festival going on outside of the Afro Museum with music and street vendors. We checked that out for a bit and then grabbed a churro with Nutella (can't say no to that) from another street vendor. Good spot to take a stroll and enjoy some cultural attractions. read more

Ibirapuera Park is one of my favorite places on this planet, it is captivating, charming, often bucolic, and most of all it is heavenly. For me it represents the many cycles and circles of life. We would go here when we were younger and explore the ponds, streams, and the many areas off the beaten path. We purposely lived in Paraiso when we were in São Paulo just to be close to Ibirapuera so we could visit at least once a day to read, exercise, unwind, and continue exploring as much of the park as we could. It made a marked difference in our quality of life. Soon after it became our children's first playground, the most unique backyard where they could explore the monuments, museums, see the wildlife, different areas of water, animals, trees, flowers, and plants. It was quite the contrast for them, to be in one of the most populated cities in the world yet have a place to escape to where they could be in lush nature. The Goddess statue was one of their favorite things in the park, playful, beautiful, and a place the kids gravitated to often. We experienced part of the circle of life here, have watched countless people of all ages experience joy in the park, and we hope one day to be living in São Paulo again so we could be at the end of our lives continuing to explore the wonders of Ibirapuera. read more

In human terms, city streets are the arteries and veins. City parks though? They're the heart. In a city of almost incomprehensible size, where finding the "there" can be elusive amidst the concrete density, Ibirapuera Park is a breath of fresh air and the heart of the city. It's no surprise that Paulistas (as locals are known) flock here each weekend as it's seemingly the only place to feel you've escaped São Paulo without actually doing so. On a weekend in December - early in Brazil's summertime - the park was full without feeling so. The park is frequently compared to NYC's Central Park and serves the same purpose even though it could fit inside with almost enough room for a second Ibirapuera Park. The park is also completely flat with a well-paved path making for a perfect and easy walk, bike ride, roller-blade, or jogging path. (Bikes are available for rental at various points). It would be easy to navigate a wheelchair on such a path. My son and I walked from the Hotel InterContinental (a good, long walk) to the park and spent the better part of a day here, first in Museu Afro Brasil then just trodding the pathways and observing the Sampa life. As we sat and watched a pick-up soccer game being played on a concrete court, he remarked that Buenos Aires had no such places for outdoor, group sporting activities; in this park, the opportunities are numerous (soccer, basketball, volleyball). We passed a big, interesting looking playground area for children, lakes, fountains, more museums, and some extensive lawn areas barely occupied by anyone. We wandered. We saw a million little rolling food and drink kiosks, all selling exactly the same junk food (who knew purple Fanta was so popular?). We also saw about 1 million policemen patrolling the park on bicycle leading me to feel that this park is extremely safe in the daytime and that the Brazilians in charge intend to keep it so. Even in a park full of people Park Ibirapuera never felt crowded. In fact, it felt quite the opposite. It's a great escape from the city without actually escaping. read more

Nice open space for walking, biking, skating or skateboarding! Plenty of shade, benches, bathrooms, food stand, grassy open spaces, playgrounds and walkways. There's a bike rental at gate 4 and the buses stop across the street (cross with the pedestrian bridge). We checked out the MAM and there's some new exhibits outside the African culture museum that start Saturday (March 28). The Japanese pavilion was closed on Friday but looks nice from the outside. Apparently there's porcupines and bats at dawn and dusk. I didn't see anything but geese and birds in the afternoon but micos and monkeys are supposedly around too. Definitely a great place to hang out with friends. read more

Ibirapuera isn't referred to as one of the best urban parks in the world for no reason. In the heart of a city of 20 million lies a beautiful tranquil respite from the surrounding madness. Like NYC Central Park but cleaner, it's large enough that it never feels crowded despite being maybe the most popular destination in SP for locals and tourists alike. In addition to loads of trails, ponds, streams, and playgrounds there is also a concert hall, museum, and loads of street vendors selling delicious food. An absolute must-see for anyone visiting Sao Paulo. read more

The thing about parks in the city is that they should make you forget you're in such a busy city. Ibirapuera does that; it transports you away from all the hubbub on the streets. The trees, the little lakes, the black swans, the Neimayer landmarks, etc are only a couple of sights worth seeing and enjoying! There are no proper words to define how much of an oasis this park is in the middle of the concrete jungle that São Paulo is - New York has its Central Park, Londoners can't shut up about Hyde Park but hey São Paulo's Ibirapuera (ibira in native..lol) Park isn't way behind. Spread over 2 square kilometres, it's a lot of green area and it is the paulistano's weekend getaway...our beach. Besides the greenery, lake, the walkways and bike lanes, the parque also plays host to Museu de Arte Moderna (MAM), an auditorium for shows & events - it is complete and an issue of pride for every Paulistano. A lot of running groups use the park for their training sessions and the park has always people during the early mornings and evenings and weekends especially Sundays get a bit too crowded as people from farther regions of the city also visit. If you're living in SP you surely know the park, if you don't - it's time to wake up...and if you're visiting the city, it's definitely one of the principal postcards of our city. read more

Ibirapuera Park is the major urban park in Sao Paulo. It's 1.584.000 square meters area contains a running circuit, bike path, The Marquise where people usually ride skates, the Bienal Pavillion, The Afro-brazilian museum, the exposition palace, the Japanese pavilion, soccer courts, volleyball courts, indoor soccer courts, lakes, the fountain, and lots of activities going on. The MAC - Contemporary Art Museum and MAM - Museum of Modern Art are also located there. There are some food options, like a restaurant, another restaurant inside MAC, and many places where you can have a coconut, water or grab a snack. You can rent a bike near gate 4 at the parking lot. This park gets really crowded on weekends, specially on sunny days, so I recommend to visit it as earlier as you can. Parking is quite hard too. Many people stop their cars around the park. If can get there by foot, bus or taxi, you'll save time. Definitely, one of the places every "paulista" is proud of!! read more

This huge park is such a nice get away from all the buildings and cars in SP. There are big and small lakes with swans and ducks all throughout the park. There are trails for walking and and painted lanes for bike riding. There are plenty of shaded areas from the trees, as well as sunny spots to catch some rays. If you forget to bring a drink, there are vendors every 10 ft practically selling drinks, ice cream and snacks.. keep in mind the prices will be slightly higher due to the monopoly of being inside the park. I personally am a nature lover and coming here made me feel good. Soo much concrete, pollution and noise from cars and buses in SP was driving me crazy. This was a pleasant way to spend an afternoon. read more

It's a nice park... The free live events are neat and I like the fact that it has several areas to pump iron... or cement. It is fun to people watch there but It gets RIDICULOUSLY crowded in the weekends. Runners are constantly dodging skaters and vice-versa. Everyone compares it to Central Park in New York, and I mean every Brazilian that finds out that I am from New York makes sure to provide me with this bit of information, but one really can't compare the two. Central Park is around 300 acres bigger and is around 100 years older than Parque do Ibirapuera. Parque do Ibirapuera is to São Paulo as Central Park is to NYC. Its a very eclectic green space with a wide variety of scenery and activities for all visitors to enjoy! I came on a Friday morning in late July, and the weather was perfect! It was a clear day and there were lots of people there being outdoorsy. After we parked, we walked around a little bit and ended up in the MAM sculpture garden. We walked through MAM as well (R$3 admission for students), and I was impressed that the park had an art museum within its boundaries. A few minutes walk from the MAM, my friend and I found an interesting tree trunk play structure that had a tunnel and a variety of nets for climbing. There were no kids on it, so we decided to take over the tree trunk and it was so much fun! The Paulistanos in the park probably thought we were crazy but it didn't matter...we were on vacation! We even captured our shenanigans on my GoPro for future laughs. After the MAM, my friend and I decided to rent bicycles and explore the park more. At R$5 an hour (which is a little less than $2 USD), this was a bargain! The bike rentals were about a 5 minute walk from the MAM in the parking lot across the street from a large park entrance. I was nervous at first because both my friend and I don't speak Portuguese and our translator (aka my friend's mom) didn't come with us to the bike rental area. However, we were able to rent bikes and fill out the necessary forms with no problems. They also needed to take a photo copy of a photo ID as well as get a local address and phone number for at least one person in your party, so make sure you have this information ready if you want to rent a bike. Within the hour, we were able to ride through only a small area of the park as it is so big! There are great paths that go all over the place, and we used these to bike around. If you prefer, you can also go walking or jogging along these paths! As we biked, we passed gardens, open fields, basketball courts, and soccer areas as well as snack bars selling ice cream, soda/water, and even acai! Eventually, we ended up at the edge of a large man-made lake where we stopped to take pictures. There were ducks, swans, and other birds near the lake, and we had a nice view of the park with part of the São Paulo skyline from where we stopped. After we were done exploring, we were able to easily return the bikes from the same place we rented them with no hassle. All we needed to do was drop off the bike at one of the designated return kiosks! If you are visiting São Paulo, I would definitely recommend a visit (a few hours or 1/2 day would do) to Parque do Ibirapuera! Get on a bike and explore the "Central Park" of South America! TL;DR - lots of different activities and sights, cheap bike rentals, and the largest urban green space in South America! read more

A definite must see for visitors in São Paulo. It is a vibrant park where city dwellers come to play, exercise and be seen. Almost all are wearing exercise apparel, head to toe. They have bikes, roller blades, skate boards, and lots of runners and gamers. There are play grounds, lots of grass and trees, it is very clean, and beautiful. It is like Central Park of NYC but 10xs the people. They're are people on tightropes, street performers (excellent) museums, ponds, a few vendors, restrooms, basketball courts, soccer, and many others. Great place to have a picnic or just to go play. I felt very safe there. A few differences is that the park is fenced in and there are not many ways to get in (I saw only one). I believe that increases the safety. There are no horse drawn carriages and it looks like it closed at night but I don't read Portuguese. No matter what I loved it. Gorgeous place to go for a few hours to walk and/or people watch. read more

Parque Ibirapuera is awesome! It cannot be compared to other parks because it is unique in its own way, like running laps, cycling, or doing whatever you feel like then having innumerous fresh coconut water waiting for you, I think that is awesome. Plus some other amenities, like their research gardens, open wooden hangar, plus this place is surrounded by cool restaurants and bars. It's all nice, but try to avoid afternoons and weekends, it can get really crowded, and making cycling a tad difficult. read more

Ibirapuera is an oasis of green amidst the concrete and smog of São Paulo. As a visitor to the city it is a great place to watch paulistanos in their natural habitat and run off your afternoon pastel. Some highlights are the skateboard/rollerblade pavilion near the sculpture garden and the "pista de cooper" where you'll find macho brasilian dudes pumping iron. At high times (after 5pm on weekdays and all weekend long) it is absolutely packed. The dedicated running/cycling lanes are almost as dangerous as the streets of São Paulo and the middle of the walkways are not much better. This park is a great place for a stroll and for spending some time while you relax, lying down under the shadow of a tree. It has huge areas for the practice of many types of sports, lake with ducks and swans, big green area, spaces for expositions and events, space telescope, playground, among many other atractions. However, there's always a catch, isn't there? The park is really big, so, because of it, it's impossible for it to be safe all the time. There are robbery reports from time to time. But, if you can keep yourself even a little alert, you'll be okay. I really advice that you try going there, it's very good. read more

It's like the SP version of Central Park in NY. It's HUGE and like CP it has a theater also, BUT this theater can be not only an amphitheater, it has a large interior for a cooler evening event. I came here in 2013 and loved the views and the space. There were tons of people walking the paths, riding bikes, having lunch on the grass and getting ready for an art installation... it was all very nice. Like Konark M. said it is an"oasis this park is in the middle of the concrete jungle that São Paulo" and speaking with my Paulista friends they all agree that Ibirapuera Park is a sanctuary. read more

This beautiful and absolutely huge park is a can't miss if you are visiting Sao Paulo. It's lovely and has so much to offer. You can do any number of sports - running, biking, roller blading, slack line - and the people watching is the best in the city! People bring their dogs and hang out on blankets, soaking up the sun and enjoying tasty treats from the numerous carts selling food and drinks. Check out the museums in the park, too. It will definitely take you multiple trips to see all there is to see! read more

SP is a huge city and lacks green space. Parque Ibirapuera makes up for this by providing a sizable activity area for residents of the city. It is super crowded during Saturdays and Sundays and nearly impossible to run or bike on the paths, but if you go after 4pm you will be ok. There are museums throughout the park, which is a nice feature. Unfortunately the park is not metro accessible, so most tourists might not find it easy to get to. read more

I was told by several people to visit this park as it was similar to Central Park in NYC & I wasn't disappointed. It is well spread out with many different areas to enjoy. You can ride a bike or play football, basketball and much more. The lakes are impressive with many different species of birds & you can see loads of fish in the water. There is an area for skateboarders & a few museums that I didn't get to visit but looked enjoyable. One of my favorite things was the refreshment stands all around the park where you can get fresh coconut juice or soft drink & chips. The monuments & statues were great & I'm sure i missed some. Also enjoy the fountain display in the lake near the main entrance it was great for pics with the city in the background. The atmosphere around the park is very relaxed, safe & friendly. Make sure you take a day to explore especially if you have kids, they will thank you for it. read more
