The building was started in 1280 and construction continued for another 120 years, finally completing in 1400 and then consecrated in 1471. The façade is divided into three vertical section corresponding to the nave and the two aisles in the interior. Unfinished, the façade is mostly in brickwork. The center of the middle section is a simply rose window. From what I've read, the interior is impressive and I would expect so for a six-hundred-year-old church. Coming from the front you will almost miss the big belltower. The front entrance is almost made in a simple architecture, typical for the gothic period. From far it almost appears (by the color) made from wood, but of course it's not. There are many lovely churches and cathedrals in town, but this needs to be on the to-do list, and if only because of the different style it has.

If you like to hike and experience history at the same time... you are in luck. Santuario Madonna della Corona is an active Catholic church that you can walk through as a tourist and even take in a mass if you like. The hiking level is somewhat difficult because of the stairs. There are a lot and they aren't even and some are rather large if you are a short legged person. I wouldn't recommend this for this for anyone with a heart condition or that is too out of shape. Otherwise, it's a DO NOT MISS if you are in the area.
