Since it had the revamp, Partick has become one of the shiniest stations on the commuter lines and a transport hub for Partick. It now connects with the small bus station bit outside, and it's very handy for Morrisons supermarket too. The original station was on the other side of Dumbarton Road, which accounts for the unusually long platforms here. On this present site stood the subway station of Merkland Street, but now the subway and rail line stops are combined as simply 'Partick'. It's light and airy with lots of glass and metalwork, and the large atrium lets you see how high up the rail line actually is - and how many stairs there are to climb! But fear not, just past the ticket office there are escalators. It always feels understaffed for its size to me - there never seems to be enough people at the ticket office and you're more likely to end up buying a ticket from someone standing at the entranceway to the escalators. There are no automatic barriers or even ticket machines for the rail line, which seems a strange omission; but no doubt they're planning on adding those at a later date. The subway on the other hand, is fully turnstiled and ticket machined as you would expect and it kind of puts the big trains to shame in that respect. There's not much else inside apart from a wee newsagents stall and a cart selling mediocre coffee. But check out Bud Neill's 'G. I. Bride' statue by the entrance doors - this is a sister sculpture to 'Lobey Dosser' on Woodlands Road and is a fine tribute to the great man's 'other' cartoon. I love it to bits. read more

As far as train stations go Partick is pretty good. They gave it a wee spruce up a few years ago & to be honest I can't actually remember what the old Partick train station used to look like...ooft. Bad brain. Anyways it's all sparkly (I wish) & dolled up a bit now. There's a handy wee coffee cart inside the station beside the door, I went once & the lady serving was really friendly but I wasn't blown away by the coffee unfortunately. There's also a mini WHSmiths stall too for mags, fags, bags & jags (I jest of course), yous ken what they sell so I don't need to tell you. It's handy that you don't have to go outside to get to the Subway here - this I likey. It's very handy when I need to dash (RUN!) from my train to try & catch the Subway when I'm working. Although they lose a star for having the annoying wee bit where there's 2 ticket inspectors checking everyone's tickets as they leave or enter the station. Bah. They only seem to be there during rush-hour times when, funnily enough, people are usually in a hurry. Duh. So sometimes there's a bit of a mosh pit to wade through but having said that flashing my Zonecard at them DOES make me feel like a special dectective or spy or summat like that. Yas. In my head I am anyway...la la la... Two (count 'em) platforms & a Subway is what you get here. I like the inside warm bit where you can wait for your train when it's baltic or raining but I also like the huuuuuge long platforms. Not enough wee teles though along the platform informing you of train information/times. That's another bugbear. Besides that Partick is pretty nifty as far a small to mid-size train stations go. I don't really have any complaints as I rarely use this station anymore, but this morning I needed to buy another zone card to get me about town and I thought I'd go to Partick to do so, since Central Station is usually swamped and it takes me ages to get in and out of there. I must have jinxed myself because when I got there, it was rush hour and the queues may as well have been out the door. Seems a little silly to only have two out of probably 6 open with long queues forming, but it is what it is. I almost want to say staying in town to get my ticket would have been quicker, but I got what i needed and left. For those of you who aren't looking to buy a zone card, there are ticket machines for the subway that take cash and cards (above a certain amount) and there are usually a few station employees standing about with their card machines who are quick to help if you need train tickets. This really is a great station as you can take both train and subway depending on your needs and everything for the most part runs smoothly. read more

Probably the swishest train station in the overground system that I've come across - the revamp has really modernised the place - all glass and escalators, and fancy ticket booths that make you feel like you're in a mini Queen Street station. It gets a lot of people traffic though, so it deserves the upgrade, and handles large amounts of commuters well, with a large heated shelter area and plenty of perching benching to... perch on. The ticket sellers are always friendly, and it's nice to travel that last little bit to your train out of the rain. A nice novelty for glasgow! read more

What keeps me coming back here travelling on the Subway. I have never got a train from here but you never know. Partick Station is quite local for me to walk to or occassionally I am lazy and jump on the bus. They have spent a lot of money upgrading this Station I am glad the new escalators are finished to the Subway it was a pain going over the track by the stairway, and it is always spotlessly clean. If you are in a hurry and need to be somewhere quickly along the Subway it is a great way of missing the traffic. read more

Partick Station might not be enormous but it is super handy. With rail, subway and bus links, if you can find your way to Partick Station you can get to almost anywhere else from there, usually pretty easily. This does mean that it can get really busy, especially at peak travel times. However, the staff take this in their stride - they're more than used to it and they know how to handle the crowds. Pay close attention to the station boards for the trains - not every train goes to every station, some of the ones that go through Partick are express trains that miss out some of the smaller stops. If you're not sure you can ask the staff or check using the Scotrail app, which often has station board details before the station boards do (incidentally, you can get free WiFi here). If you're not in too much of a hurry, stop to check out local art work in the form of the G.I. Bride statue, thumbing for a lift, or pick up a coffee from the small coffee stand in the entrance. read more

A really clean shiny station with loads of glass that almost feels like one of London's tube stops, it's so nice. It links with both the underground and bus station making it a busy central hub for commuters. It's also near a really good Morrisons and Blockbuster Video. Walking into Partick railway station for the first time, you would be forgiven for thinking that you are walking into a busy airport. Or indeed a much larger train station, such is the sheer size and modern look of its interior. Apperances can be deceptive however - Partick is no King's Cross, rather a pair of platforms both above - serving ScotRail train services between the east and west ends of Glasgow, and below - as a stop on the Glasgow Underground network. During the morning and evening rush hours the place is actually more like a school playground, with the multitude of men in suits and briefcases rushing through like a herd of buffalo (and practically trampling over you too). This just goes to show, however, what a valuable public service this station is, with a very frequent service of trains to and from Glasgow city centre (every few minutes). Roughly every second train into the city centre calls at Glasgow Queen St, and every second other at Glasgow Central. This also means you can just turn up at any time and get a train into the city centre almost immediately, although you will have to wait a bit longer should you require to get to the outskirts of Glasgow such as Milngavie, Airdrie or even further afield like Balloch or Helensburgh. The subway service is also every few minutes but do leave yourself plenty of time on days that Rangers are playing at home, because the queues for the train can be huge. My only real problem with this station is that, althought there is a ticket office, it is often closed for whatever reason (or just nobody is there), meaning you have to buy your ticket on the train. Doing this can be awkward, especially as some of the ticket conductors do not accept railcards, meaning you have to unfairly pay the full price fare. This has happened to me several times and this is why I am not giving this station as high a rating as I otherwise would. read more

Wow. The new, improved Partick station was unleashed while I was out of the country and described to me by a friend of mine as being "the future, today". What a tosser, I thought. However, he wasn't wrong. While the swish new surroundings are barely merited given the place houses just two train platforms as well as the subway, as a commuter hub some sort of upgrade was long overdue and the station is now a far more appropriate size for the number of passengers it deals with. With large, heated waiting rooms and more ticket office windows it's a breath of fresh air on the local line, while the ultra modern interior is also soon to house kiosks which will be welcome additions. read more

This station is just incredibly convenient. It had a subway, trains, and there are the buses outside. You just can't argue with that. The train station had lines that go to both Glasgow Queen Street and Glasgow Central, plus a train direct to Edinburgh This station only loses points for one reason. Scotrail often doesn't have enough people working and they don't have a ticket machine. This is the largest station I've been to where I'll need to get on a train without a ticket because I can't buy one. read more

Oooh the daily grind. Get up, get ready, catch the train to do your business for the day. Low and behold Partick station. It's been recently refurbished, and is now a big, bright, airy and clean facility for commuters to stampede through during morning and late afternoon rush. It's a combined station for both the underground and trains. Coupled with the bus station outside, it is the transportation hub of Partick. The queue for train tickets is never long during morning rush, and there are normally 3-4 attendants prepared to sell you tickets before you proceed past the checkpoint. Signs are clearly posted, so it's pretty easy to navigate your way in and around the station. It's a great way to get to and from various parts of Glasgow in a cinch. Note to self: even when you're in a rush, know which train you're getting on because you've made the mistake one too many times and had to walk to Strathclyde all the way from Central Station instead of Queen Street. Very large & airy railway station in the heart of partick. Perfect location for getting to the heart of the westend. As well as the overground trains, partick station also has an underground station and a bus station making it the perfect place to start any journey. The major downside to this station is that altho there is 4 ticket windows. During the morning rush hour there's usually only 1 ticket window open for the overhead trains and 1 for the underground trains causing long queues. Also, there are no stand alone ticket machines. This fact alone loses points with me. A new WH Smith kiosk has just opened within the station which is handy if you're needing something to read on your journey or need a quick snack between trains without having to dash to morrisons. read more

Partick's subway station is the newest and most swish. It's really modern and non-smelly, but I kind of like the old-style stations better, it seems more adventurous that way. It has a direct interchange with Partick train station, and because of this, it is a busy stop. The area of Partick is very hip these days, and marks the beginning of a string of subway stations located in desirable areas. Walking along the road, the cafes, gift shops and clothes shops give a good indication of the young people who live here. read more

Seems odd to say I'm a fan of a train station but I really am a fan of this one. Recently renovated, it is in a league of its own as far as the other train stations in Glasgow go (with the exception of Central and Queen Street). It has large indoor areas to sit when waiting for a train with screens listing departures and it has heaters! Heaters! Every train station should have heaters. I would often jump on a train at Queen Street or Central that went to Jordanhill rather than Anniesland to change at Partick rather than wait on the low level at Queen Street or Central for the same amount of time. The station is also an interchange with Partick underground meaning you dont need to leave the building or walk in the rain to find the nearest subway station. This is what public transport should always be like. read more

I feel like I spend most of my life in Partick Railway Station due to the fact I live in Old Kilpatrick and my boyfriend lives in the West End. Thankfully there are worse places to hand around. As it is an interchange stations which serves both Queen Street and Glasgow Central, there is a train at Partick at least every ten minutes. The huge makeover it received last year has given it a shiny space age feel which has also resulted in brilliant access for disabled users. It is right next door to a newsagent and Morrisons but there is currently a billboard advertising for a station kiosk. Whoever snaps up this prime spot will no doubt make a mint. read more

Can I be the first to say that I find the Low Level rail system in Glasgow REALLY CONFUSING?! And let me tell you, though undoubtedly a very nice station, Partick station does nothing to help this! The directions for the low level trains aren't very helpful to complete beginners, and unless you know what the final destination of your particular train is it can be difficult to know which train to get on. Despite this, the staff are often unhelpful. For example, a couple of weeks ago all the electricity at the station was out - which meant there was no screens up or announcements as to which train was which. I was trying to get to a meeting - but there wasn't even anybody around to tell me which train to take. Stressful? Yes! The only good thing about the lack of customer service at this station is the fact that the ticket window is rarely open, and often you never get asked to buy a ticket on the train. read more

This place looks great! After being under construction for what felt like forever, the Partick station is finally done. Both a railway and underground station, it's new shiny decor is something to be admired. Gone are the burnt orange tiles that you seem to find in every public transport station. It's all very silver and neutral now. Clearly marked signs dissolve some of the confusion of the station pre-renovation, and I feel much more comfortable finding my way now, than I did before. Shiny and very conveniently located next to a Morrisons, it's a great drop off point. Get yer shopping, and then get back on the tube. Excellent. Definitely a fave of the clockwork orange. read more

Cannae whack it. It provides trains fairly often, and looks like a scaled-down airport terminal. The bit out the front is a bit smelly, and there's often some locals staggering about looking for fag ends to eat (Also the big mural of the floppy-mouthed sportswoman is a bit tragic) but overall, it's about what you'd expect from somewhere on the edge of the West end. read more
