Very difficult to have balloons blown up here unless you purchase from the store. We were originally told that they do not blow up other balloons despite advertising that they fill up balloons purchased both at Party City and other vendors. We even offered to purchase a bag of balloons from them and then have them blow up our balloons (because they were sold out in person and online of the ones we wanted). The assistant manager said no and we left. We couldn't find helium elsewhere so went back in and the head manager was very helpful. Because it is franchised their balloons regulations are from their franchise owner, but I think that is something that should be reconsidered. Wow! First time going to this location. Let me say the employees at this location isn't friendly at all. Normally, when customers walk into the store Hello or something. Can I help with something? Nothing I guess you're on your own. Anyway, I wanted to see what Christmas headbands they had. Their Christmas area was basically wiped out. The selections were very limited for sure. My wife bought wild animal colored latex balloons for my daughter's second birthday yesterday afternoon. Got them home and kept them in our dining room. This morning not even 18 hours after she bought them, all but the large Mylar one had deflated. I called the store to ask them what we should do as it hadn't been more than 18 hours and got a manager who said we only guarantee them for 24 hours. I said it hasn't been 24 yet and she said sorry and they weren't going to do anything. I will never step foot in this party city or any others ever again. No customer service whatsoever. I had a solid experience at party city. I ordered a balloon bundle for pickup about a week in advance. The balloons were ready and looked great when I arrived. I also needed a few things like plates, forks and a cake cutter and was able to get everything all at once. I purchased over $300 in merchandise at the Midlothian, VA store for a party. We used all but three small items (value $22) and I attempted to return those three the day after the party, with receipt. The Party City employee seemed to start with attitude and then carefully inspected the items. In front of other customers, she blatantly accused me of returning used items and claimed there were water spots on the items. I was embarrassed. These items had never left my shopping bag, were never used and had all pricing stickers and bar codes in tact. I went to the store located off Midlothian Turnpike in Midlothian, VA to ask if they can put helium in some balloons that I had already purchased elsewhere. First they charge you the same as if you purchased the balloons at their store. Since it was the day of my daughter's birthday party, I had no choice but to pay the money. I even purchased a large balloon at the store to include with my other balloons. I had to pay almost $40 for balloons that I brought myself plus the one balloon I got at the store. That is one thing that did not sit well with me, and when I went to get my balloons, one of the ones I brought was damaged and I asked if they could provide a replacement balloon. I was told by the woman in charge very rudely that I was warned before I even paid that if there was any damage to any balloons brought from outside the store that there were no refunds. I acknowledged that but I had already paid and was simply asking for a replacement balloon but was so rudely told no. I bit my tongue because I did not want to escalate the situation by opposing the woman behind the counter. I literally felt like she was in fight mode and going to jump over the counter if I said anything else. I was a bit afraid of her. The whole time I am maintaining a calm demeanor since I did not want my daughter's special day to be ruined due to someone's ignorance or lack of customer service skills. So I calmly got in line to pay for my other items that I was purchasing. The whole time I am thinking to myself, whatever happened to ("The customer is always right?) and good old fashioned kind and helpful customer service. I was not trying to get over, I just did not think it was fair that I paid for something I did not get and paid well over what was fair I might add. I think it was well within my rights and a reasonable request to get a replacement balloon for the one that was damaged (of which I have no idea how it was damaged since I took it out of the original package right there in the store) that I brought in myself and paid them to fill with helium. I know I was treated very rudely in front of my 7 year old daughter and for that reason alone I am never stepping foot in that store again and I warn anyone as long as that woman still works there or the management or any employee that works there for that matter is allowed to treat well meaning paying customers in that manner, to think twice about supporting such an establishment. I will also be putting a complaint with the Better Business Bureau for what I think is bad business practices for charging people for goods or services they did not receive. Also for their terrible regard for the consumer. Party City is supposed to be a place people go to purchase items for primarily happy celebratory moments in their lives that will create long lasting memories for all involved. I have shopped with Party City for years and never have a bad such an awful experience like I had yesterday! Adrienne at store 195 doesn't need to be employed anywhere if she is allowed to speak to customers the way she did to me and hang up in the middle of me speaking. I called at 9:58 to simply confirm my order would be ready by 11am for pick up. She proceeds to tell me they don't service anyone regarding order pick up until 10am! And as I'm trying to explain to her that I wasn't picking up yet, and just confirming, she cuts me off and says "I'll speak to you about that when we open at 10am. Have a good day!" And hangs up in my face! I was appalled! Even if that is written somewhere in the policy, why would she answer my phone call number one?! And Furthermore, why would she not make an exception considering it was TWO MINUTES early?! I am a retail manager and would NEVER have someone so unprofessional and rude working for me! I patiently waited 2 minutes to call back and asked to speak to a manager. I was speaking to Samantha who was just as unprofessional and couldn't care less that her associate had treated me so poorly! As a manger myself, I know that my team is a reflection of me, and this is obvious by Samantha's behavior. Not only was she extremely non-chalant and had no lack of outrage for how business was handled, she continued to call me "dear" which was very condescending. She placed me on hold to check my order because that's all she really cared to talk to me about, another associate picks up the phone and tells me she will be right out with my order!!! I was just completely done at this point. It's obvious they don't communicate at this store at all! I had to explain AGAIN that I was not at the store for pick up yet, but that I just wanted to make sure it would be done and ready when I got there at 11am! Samantha FINALLY gets back on the phone and confirms my order. I come pick it up at 11 and Alex brings it out to me. One of the most professional people in this whole experience! Confirmed my order, brought it out to me in the rain and placed it in my backseat for me. I get all the way to my event to see I am missing 1 balloon. Typically I wouldn't even make a big deal about it, but considering my entire experience was dreadful, I called back to speak to Samantha again. Supposedly she gone, which I don't believe for a second, but nonetheless I speak to Deborah. Thank God this woman has some management experience and training in customer service because she was excelllent! I explained to her everything that happened and she was very displeased with how things were handled and assured me she would get back to me Monday regarding my refund. I don't ever plan on doing business with the store again, but I do commend Deborah for her professionalism and concern for how I was treated. read more
