I've been many times but wanted to come here to say thank you. Always helpful staff - they are what makes the experience easy for me but yesterday I had an outstanding experience. IMHO customer service since Covid has been severely lacking and I've been getting despondent about how miserable or bored service providers seem to have got. However visiting yesterday gave me faith that just maybe the future of retail might be getting brighter. The person at the register was responsive, polite, helpful and offered suggestions. I had another query and whilst I left my daughter at the register whilst our items were ringing up, I quickly found another advisor to ask a question. He immediately knew what I was looking for and walked me to the aisle but said he thought I may have to go elsewhere as they don't have much demand for it (edible glitter!) Free delivery of balloons if you spend over $50 which is wonderful and was booked in there and then. As a mum, I'm running around like a crazy thing and it's so great to have at least one 'chore' made easy. Thanks guys read more

This place has really gotten pricey. I was looking for some decorative paper plates and disposable utensils for a BBQ. The plates, utensils, and some decorative table stuff was about $50. I decided to go to Hobby lobby before I purchased. I got everything I needed with comparable sizes for a total of $15. I'm not certain why prices have become so crazy, but try elsewhere first!! read more

Dude, this place is HUGE! and it seems to stock anything and everything you would ever need to decorate for a party.... and more! I believe this is the store that used to be next to Dick's, but has moved down by Toys R Us. This store is of grand size. And I was totally shocked and amazed at how much stuff they carry. They have items for themed events, as well as as an aisle dedicated to just specific colors! (It's like walking through a rainbow, lol). In addition to getting streamers, plates, things to hang/decorate, I also ordered a bunch of balloons. The process seemed simple enough. I subtracted one star because I was a little annoyed: they were out of red balloons (which is one of two colors I'm decorating) and so they wouldn't be able to fill my order. But the thing is that they carry packaged red ballons - so I didn't understand why they wouldn't just open a package ($2.99) to get me some red balloons... but "they don't do that"... WHATEVER. So I just paid to buy the package, and then provdided the balloons to be filled. It was a couple bucks more - whatever. But it was an annoyance. The store was clean and bright and great. The girl (minus my annoyance about the balloons) was nice enough. I will totally be coming back here for my party needs, and would recommend it to my friends/family!! Great store :) read more

This is the closest Party City to me. It moved from its old location and so I decided to give it a try. It was smaller than I expected and had limited options for birthday character themes, etc. It was brightly lit. Check out was fast. But I felt stuck with the small selection. It's a freaking party store! There should be tons if selections! Going here wouldn't force you to have a Charlie Brown party, but it would be as festive as Mardi Gras either. I'll drive the extra miles next time to the bigger store. read more

"Welcome to the Party" is the greeting when you walk in. LOVE this place. Clean, bright, welcoming and I could have shopped for hours. As many reviewers mentioned, Jimmy is beyond fantastic. When I go back to help my daughter spend her birthday money, I will make sure to call ahead and see if he is there. I want to see his smile again! This was our first visit to a Party City --ever--and I will be back often. Not only do I have a child's party to plan, but I also do event planning as a "side job" and will not only shop here, but refer everyone I know. I came in here to get balloons filled for a friend's birthday. As I was walking to the car, one of the balloon strings snapped because of extreme wind and the balloon flew away. Since it was one of the number balloons I had to buy another one, which I was very disappointed about. However, the man that helped me was incredibly kind and gave me a brand new balloon free of charge. It made my day and I definitely will be coming back! read more

I think it's very difficult to rate Party City, because they are all so completely different in my opinion! And, I feel authorized to make this comment because I've been to a lot of them over a lifetime--especially when it comes to kids birthday parties and Halloween time. So, here's the deal with this place. In preparation for a small event, I stopped in here near closing time for some very simple things. I needed a helium tank and some red containers for items I would have displayed on a table. Though this store is huge, I agree with Jennifer H that the selection was hit or miss. I really only had a few choices for containers...red containers especially. Even in the Valentine's section they didn't have anything plain, or anything that didn't have a heart-shape or hearts on it. Boo hiss!! I was so stuck, but I ended up going with summer sand buckets for most of my items. I figured this would be appropriate for a kid event anyway. In looking through every aisle, I do think they carry a nice selection of basic colored plates, napkins, cups, etc. So if this is what you are coming for here your in luck! The service was excellent during my visit. There was one kid working there who took great pride in his job. He made sure all my questions were answered with regard to the helium tanks, and when my husband took my kids into the "Willy Wonka-ish" candy section, he was very cool with my ready-to-go kids and the candy photo shoot led by my husband. Everyone in the store was friendly and extremely helpful (not that they could make the perfect red container appear), but offered to assist me with anything I needed help with. I'm closer to the Highland Park location on Skokie, but happened to stop in here on a conjoined shopping trip. I like Highland Park for the party themes and better container selection, but I'm not a huge fan of their customer service. Vernon Hills has great customer service, but a simpler more basic selection of your party needs. read more

We bought a Cookie Monster costume for our son and was too small. We took it back and the Manager said no returns and or even exchange for the right size. Needless to say we will never shop there or any Party City's again for this BS! Off to Target to get a costume and we will spread the word to all people at school and the neighborhood. this place will NEVER accept fault or give an apology or try to accommodate for their mistakes. we had ordered latex balloons and numbers for pick up. already, we had to wait 20 mins and then they tell me the number balloons were not on the receipt so they were not able to do anything about it. there were THREE of us who ordered it together. and obviously the cashier messed up and didn't charge us for it at the time of the order. so that's already their fault. but i explain that to them and all they did was shrug their shoulders and say "i don't see it on the receipt, we have a delivery to do and it'll be an hour for it." clearly they're so incapable of understanding that they messed up and fixing THEIR mistake, like a GOOD customer service would. would NOT recommend this place at all due to their lack of ability of owning up to their mistakes. read more

I called and ordered some balloons for a coworker's birthday. I picked them up around 11 AM and noticed the mylar was already droopy when I got to the office. By the next day at 8:30 AM they were hovering over the ground. The balloons were nearly deflated in less than 24 hours; will not be ordering balloons from them again! read more

The Party City in Vernon Hills Illinois does not deserve one star. I only buy greeting cards there. I was in line waiting to buy my cards when another person came in to order balloons. The girl employee helped him first. I was still in line another person came in and asked about balloons the girl employee continued to help him and ignored me. When asked if she would help me she said no she was too busy on a large balloon order. Awful customer service! I asked for the manager he did help me but really didn't care about my complaint at all. The girl employee was rude and incompetent Not sure why people even buy balloons at that store when the balloons across the street at The Dollar store are lot cheaper and The employees are much nicer read more

I spent $70 online at partycity.com so I called last night and was told that they would blow up the balloons for free as long as I brought in the receipt. Soooo I drive the 20 minutes to party city only to get told that it would be 69 cents each freaking balloon. So I said no I was told on the phone that it was free. So the bearded guy rolls his eyes and says why would we do that we wouldn't make any money if we did that. So I say well I could have not wasted my time driving all the way over here had I known that and gone to a different store so I wouldn't waste my time and my money and he says with a rude chuckle why would the other stores do it for free were all the same so I told him I didn't mean go to another party city! If I had to pay I could have went anywhere! Not to party city considering this is the closest one (not so close) I wouldn't have wasted my time and money coming to this store had I known that you guys wouldn't do it for free I called last night specifically to find out they told me yes come on in! So he says well that wouldn't make any sense how would we make any money I wanted to yell at them and say how about the $70 I spent online on the crappy decorations they came All bent up!!! Not to mention my birthday party for my little girl is in three hours and I don't have time to wait and deal with this guy so I simply state that's ridiculous I'm not gonna pay 69 cents each balloon after I was told on the phone it was free with the receipt. This store is one greatest party cities I have ever gone to. The manger, Jimmy, was a delight to work with. He helped find exactly what I was looking for and even made suggestions with the items they were out of stock of. And Suzy was the sweetest employee of them all. Today was the last time that I visited Party city in Vernon Hills. Customer service is horrible! I always go to this store to buy party supplies and balloons. My biggest frustration is to pay very expensive amount of money and have a poorly, really poorly inflated balloons! And when I politely complained about it (which I did on many occasions), the person said "It is what it is. I can't remove the helium from the balloons even if you're not happy with the product". I was so chocked with the woman's answer that I had no reply! From now on, I'll buy a kit to inflate balloons to all my parties. I had enough from party city! read more

KUDOS to Greg and staff at this Party City Vernon HIlls locations! I ordered 18 individually weighted balloons to surprise an 18-year-old in the morning ....picked up the balloons the evening before....and Greg happened to fall into a conversation with me about the event. He quickly pointed out that the balloons would be deflated by morning! He then offered to recreate the balloons and have them ready for me in the morning for pick up prior to the big surprise. I'm done with Party City. This store has terrible customer service and management. You go in and ask for balloons and you get attitude. That's your job...you blow up balloons. Also, since when do you get a funny face for wanting a few balloons blown up right then. Has things changed and you can no longer ask for balloons when you check out. If so, make it known to all with notices. Then I will respect the rules and pre-order balloons.....but I have never heard that before. It's absolutely terrible to be treated this way. read more

All four stores had employees with unfriendly and less than helpful attitudes. When I went to return some unused items after the party, the Vernon Hills manager was actually angry to be disturbed. Been to this location several times, and I gotta say some of these reviews are ridiculous. Some of you have to give these employees a break. I'm sure they have a lot of pre ordered balloon orders and when people try to get balloons right when they come in, it must be a hassle. You've been knowing your child's Party was coming up, why didn't you pre order the balloons? The employees fault? I don't think so. Think ahead you crazy moms. The store has a wide selection of items for parties. I just wish they had a welcome home, or congrats section, but that's corporates decision, not the stores fault. Staff here is great! Once a short girl with short hair helped me find an item at another location which was much appreciated!! (Wish I would of gotten her name, but didn't read her name tag). When it comes to their return policy, always make sure to ask! Don't take it personally if the associate doesn't accept your return, they're just following the rules they're given. I'm the time I've been coming to this store I've seen so many customers get mad because a return is not accepted. Do you see any Christmas stuff out anymore? No, of course not. So don't act shocked when you're told you can't return it, I'm sure the policy is stated right on the receipt, don't act stupid, it's common sense. I've also read a review about how when a balloon is not in inventory, they don't take down the sample or place a sign to make the customer aware. I once asked a young guy at the register why this is the case, and he explained to me that once the balloon sells out there's no way for them to know until a customer asks for it, and there's really no time to take it down or put a sign, since they'll probably receive a shipment of them fairly soon so it'll be a waste of time (considering the big black wall of balloons, I bet!!) Which makes sense, tough luck, sometimes the balloon might be out of stock not the end of the world. Of course I didn't expect an apology for the balloon being out of stock, it's not their fault. The guy took the time to explain why this was and I was perfectly fine with that. Wish I would of caught his name but the male didn't have a name tag. Overall this store is great, amazing staff, a variety of selections, and reasonable prices. Will definitely keep coming back!! This store has a nice selection of items which is why it gets just a star or I would give it zero if I could... the customer service was horrible today. I needed a few balloons for my son's party filled with helium and got stuck behind someone ordering 10 balloons...Ok no biggie...not her fault, but the guy filling them moved slower than molasses while the line behind is me building. Finally, after waiting 20 minutes, it's my turn and they were out of the balloon I asked for...then, I picked another one, same thing....then a third, just a plain round one this time, they don't have it either! God forbid they have a sign that says they are sold out of those! Then I wait another 10 minutes to buy the stuff in my cart, because they only have 2 cashiers on a busy day. I ask if they sell the balloon samples or why they don't take them down when they sell out.... the lady just says that they get them in every week and when they sell out, that's it, nothing they can do. Not even an apology, just terrible "too bad" response, so terrible customer service all around. Gotta find another party store somewhere.... read more

I have to give this business a one star only because they had a really nice guy that took care of me first, very polite. I spent about 110.00 purchasing party supplies for my daughter's birthday party, but I decided to stop by the dollar store where I found similiar things I had purchased at the party city store for a lot less, so I went back to party city and after I explained what happened, I needed to return about $60.00 back to the store, unopened items with receipt in my hand. Someone named Christy I guess is a manager or assistant manager since her appearance didn't seem like she was plus her education. This person had a terrible attitud, had a mean face, didn't even speak to me, I actually wanted to ask her if she was a volunteer for party city and maybe was so annoyed because she doesn't get paid, She was so super rude, gave me a look like if I went to her house to beg for food, she looked so angry, then told some of the other employees, "you better get a shopping cart she is returning all that stuff". After she opened her mouth to say that I just wanted to get back to my car and bring the whole merchandise back and have her return the whole entired purchase just for her attitud, however I decided not to ruin my night and decided to never return to that horrible store, maybe if she gets fired for her horrible attitud one day I may return, but for now I rather spend my money somewhere else where people are trained to know how to treat customers. So if you have to return something to that store now you know who you"ll find there. read more
