My son attended this amazing academy kindergarten thru 8th grade and I am so happy he did. From top to bottom the faculty and staff always went above and beyond. Rosebud is home away from home. All 5 of my children have attended and now brag about the education that they received from Rosebud. It has prepared them for prestigious high schools and beyond. I am glad that we found a place that is the happy medium of private school discipline & rigor and public school community & grounding. The family environment has created life-long relationships. I am grateful for the vision of the Founder/Executive Director and her commitment to help close the Achievement Gap. My son has been at rosebud for the past two years and it has been a wonderful change. Being able to see him grow from kindergarten to 2nd grade. We have made rosebud our home coming from a Montessori background. The classes are advance but my scholar has done an amazing job with the support from staff along with teachers. He has been on honor roll since we started rosebud. I am so happy my son got into the school and is excelling in every and anything he touches. They recently added a performance arts program, sports, cheer, and cheese club. Its great for the kids to have a balance of school work/ achievements & extra curricular activities of their choosing. Is the "director" the principal? Can both positions be held by the same individual? There are generally levels such as superintendent ..director..principal..vice principal... for a reason. The director has been inconsiderate and flat out lied, said she does not answer to anyone and in fact answers to the LACOE and the hierarchy of such. Any other formal complaints can be directed that way in case they mislead others as well. There is a dress code with uniforms for the children but not administrators, maybe being cool is more important than setting an example for the young ladies/young men that attend school. When I witnessed disrespectful/dismissive behaviors toward parents I presumed the faculty member(s) were having a bad day(s), when I experienced it and continued witnessing fraternization I was shocked, that includes inappropriate parent/ administration dealings, over the top flirtatiousness, touching interactions,I became more uncomfortable. The scouts seem to be kind/respectful. R. Shorter in the office, is so kind/keeps the place in balance. Perhaps she can take on a position as a liaison for parent interactions, we call her "the nice one". The only way my child would continue at this school is with a revamp and more training, when they fix their attitude and the standards. This is a public school still, charter or not. As a previous stay at home mom rejoining the professional world, there has been open shaming in front of others for not working a traditional job by the director. "You don't work" as if.. At times there is a dismissive attitude toward the children and parents. As soon as the director appears the looks of mistrust appear on the parents faces. Parents have been/are guilted about the children's progress even when some of the curriculum is inaccurate by world standards. They use political standards for teaching outlines. 3rd grade are suppose to be reading at 5th and 6th grade levels in class. Then the school attempts to enforce it, when test time comes they are achieving higher on tests for 3rd grade but more stressed out because they aren't earning A's in actual class, so their confidence is lower than it can be. They score well for state testing levels because of the massive amount of work and repetition. It would be clever if the children had other outlets, like art, music/p.e., p.e. is only twice weekly. I had to demand a meeting for progress information concerning my child. There are major ego issues and could benefit from apologizing to the parents and the students. Some teachers are not trained to deal with a few adhd students who I've witnessed be rude, curt and hurtful towards. This teacher takes the special needs on as disrespectful, it isn't that, it's an inability to sit still for long periods of time, and they are legally suppose to make accommodations. A tip is to have the adhd child take on more responsibility so they are able to move about in a productive and constructive way without being a distraction yet able to move about. Twice in a period of two years actual bears have roamed the halls and the children are locked in the classrooms but they lock the children in the school grounds daily. Is that even legal? can they lock the children inside?? My child has encountered bully situations/having to fight. Now he looks forward to learning new moves to defend himself. This is not what we signed up for. Half truths are given about many things and something is for sale 3+times a week. There is a need for a more multicultural teacher base as the students are multicultural-ish. There is major need and room for improvement. If enrolled here, Be prepared for mistreatment, but above average test scores for their grade, which is good considering how low state averages usually are, As for us, not a good trade. I wish them all, other parents, good teachers/staff and children the best. Hopefully LACOE and the director can collaborate and will fix the issue(s); sooner than later. read more

I attended the new student orientation for parents. The school looks like the usual elementary school. Some of the staff was pleasant. Some were GAF with attitude. They require uniforms for students and do offer parents a chance to buy the lost and found leftovers from the previous year. I had heard the matriculation at Rosebud was above average for the area schools. It doesn't reflect in the staff. Good luck with the car line at drop off. We decided to enroll our child elsewhere. read more
