The price is $63 per game, which as an example, works out to be $8 a player for our team. There's a $40 per team sign up fee. And they offer student discounts. The location is good for city people but the parking is a little scarce and dark. The courts are surfaced with the stuff that canes if you fall over, and the nets line the sides. The instructors and personal trainers are all super committed to getting you the best out of your work out and the patrons are friendly and talkative. It has a real community feel to it. For someone who generally hates people it has been a pleasant social experience for me as well as a turning point in my health. There is still your iron pumping blokes grunting and sweating on everything, but they're at least nice and not so intimidating. It has a bunch of sporting stuff that goes on there as well as the centre for gymnastics, so every now and then you get accosted by tiny leotarded sticky things but it's not too often as to be a turn off. Kudos has to go out to the centre manager Mandy (also my PT) whose passion and commitment to the centre are evident in it's awesomeness.

Now yes the building is dated, so much so that I felt like I was transported back to the 90s - its definitely not as new and modern as your goodlife or anytime fitness gyms but its good value at $10 a week with everything you need!

There are a variety of sports that are played here, basketball, squash, there's a weight room, but I would do martial arts in the lecture theatre upstairs. I had to avoid times the other class was on so Tuesdays & Saturdays were out, but I negotiated with the guys downstairs to arrange Wednesday nights. You'll notice I'm using past tense here a lot. I had a lot of issues with the chairs in the room not being put away, crap left on the floor, and the service was ordinary depending on the person running things for the day. Eventually I got fed up with it, and the prices are higher than a lot of other halls I could have been hiring, so I called it a day.

I admit, I haven't been there as much as I have many of the other clubs in Adelaide, but I have always enjoyed myself when I did. Para Hills has a very sizable club house where they host weekly Bingo and other community activities. Outside are three greens, 2 grass and one Synthetic, and although the grass tracks have been a little scratchy over the years, they are definately on the improve! Night owls is run every Wednesday Night during the season and is pretty popular, so make sure you book a team in early! They also have a restaurant, Chillo's, that run Tuesday Through to Saturday nights from 5:00pm until 9:00 pm. I haven't tried them yet, but I will be sure to write an update when I do. One thing that really impressed me about the club is the outdoor 'alfresco' area they have at the side of their clubrooms. It is a huge undercover bbq area that resembles a beer hall (and I am sure resembles one even more after some pennant games!). Make sure, if and when you head to the club, to have a chat to the greenkeeper if he is around. I have known him for many a year and he will quite happily have a brew with you and share a yarn.

Tennis was my Sport de Premiere for many a year, and I even returned from my self imposed retirement for a couple of seasons a few years back. Of all of the community Tennis courts around my area, the Gilbert Street court would be my favourite. Is it a good surface? Nah, not particularly. I mean, it is ok, but there are definately better around. Does it have a bbq, play ground etc.? Nup....it is just a court......but it is a) on its own, b) has its own car park, c) has plenty of shade (huge gum trees) and d) is right on the river. For me this is the perfect community Tennis Court! You don't have to chase balls, worry about other peoples games and those who know where it is (not that many) just drive on rather than wait for you to finish! Not the most kid friendly (they would probably be alright down the river....glug glug) but I don't have kids, so I really don't care!

It is not the most modern or up-to-date facility you could have for a function but it is cost effective and a large space that can hold a lot of people. Located in Goodwood, it is still close to the city if you wanted to head into the clubs after the party, but is also reasonably central to everywhere else which makes it easier for your guests to find it. We arrived the day of the party to set up and there was an afternoon bachelor party on at the time (complete with scantily dressed women) which proves it can be used as a space for lots of different kinds of functions. My friend was able to set up all the decorations unhindered and struck a good deal with the bar in regards to subsidised drinks. Having said this, when we first arrived none of the bar staff knew about the specials which was just annoying and a little stressful for the birthday girl. However, everyone fit comfortably in the space with heaps of seating both inside and outside if your feet get sore from all the stilettos. They also has a PA system rigged up so speech making was made easy.

I've been playing soccer since I was 8 and for Metro since I was 14. I have played my up from under…read more15s to Division 1 in those 8 years and have enjoyed my time there immensly. Since splitting from Metro Stars in 2005, the women have made a strong name for themselves, establishing their own club. At one point there were 7 teams, from under 11s to Premier League, but there are normally 4 or 5 teams per year. We have had success at every level, with many players winning leagues and playing at Hindmarsh Stadium in Cup Final's. The atmosphere is amazing and the people who run the club and so friendly and dedicated. The committee is made up of around 10-12 male and females who have been with the club since the split from the men's or a newbies with kids in the juniors. Game day and trainings are always great with heaps supporters, bbqs, games, raffles and fundraisers throughout the year. If you have a girl or are one interested in soccer in the North East, definitely go along to Metro to try it out and meet everyone.
