Deputy Jones was super helpful when dealing with a domestic issue between my mom and stepdad. He really helped talk us through what are options were and made the whole process a lot easier to deal with. He checked on us after he left to make sure that we were okay and I really appreciated it. I am very proud of the Pasco County Sheriff Deputies who have always been supportive of me and kept me safe whenever I had an issue. Today, Deputy Cook responded when I called from out of town because our security cameras showed a lady walking around my house taking pictures. Deputy Cook responded very quickly and checked over my property, front and back, to ensure that the property was secure and undamaged. He also made contact with the lady on the video and warned her to stay away from our property. Sadly, we have had too many incidents in this neighborhood and have been staying elsewhere. If you want the short version, go directly to the last two paragraphs. This review is for WEST Pasco County Sheriff's Deputies in Hudson/Port Richey and non-incorporated areas of New Port Richey. Keep in mind, "Florida Man" is a meme for a reason and the Sheriff's Department has to deal with them. Pasco County Sheriff's Deputies in our side of the county are relatively congenial. They seem to use tools to work smarter. They are very responsive in letting the community know what's going on in the county via Twitter. They are BIG proponents of Ring/other video systems and make it easy for residents to report break-ins, mischief, etc. They have a detective who reviews reported events from the Ring system so they know who's out and about and can easily disseminate the information. The Port Richey/Hudson area is not some place you want to case the neighborhood. By the time you get around to finding a place to commit a crime, they already know your body, your face, have you on video and the Ring community probably already has a thread going on you. Why did I give the Sheriff's Department 4 stars instead of 5? Sheriff Nocco said some pretty inappropriate things about Occupy protesters during that period of time (2011-2012) that inferred his deputies would abuse their privilege under *his* direction (the video of his press conference was aired on TV). Our peaceful protests (signs and verbal) only crossed their purview once and they were NOT happy, but they did not become physically abusive over it. It was peaceful after all. I am sorry I can't give you any information on how the Sheriff's Department in this area interacts with African Americans. I've never, EVER crossed the path of any African American person that was threatening in stance, so if you feel threatened you need to get your white privilege/racism in check. The area has become more evenly split between Democratic and Republican voters and COVID statistics show a much higher percentage of white people suffering from the virus so take what you will from that. I offer this next bit of information in hopes that it offers perspective on this area in regards to what the Sheriff's Department has to deal with. Both Hudson (NY connection) and Moon Lake (descendants of one family) have a cluster of white supremacists. You will, from time to time (although less frequently over the last year) see them driving down US 19 with confederate flags as big as their raised up trucks flying from them. The ones from Moon Lake are more "Florida Man." Keep your distance from the Hudson group (no idea where they hang, but the Sheriff's office is aware of them from what I was told so they have to deal with that). We have several clusters of homeless groups. They pretty much stay to themselves, but the Sheriff's Department keeps an eye on them as well. This place is full of retirement communities which means a lot of old people who spend their days/nights looking out the window. Like I said earlier, this area isn't a good place to commit a crime if you're trying to get away with it. The Ring community is vast and wide and very adept at quickly spreading information about where you've been and where you're going. Drive VERY carefully if you're going down SR 52 in the dead of night. Drunk people wander across it from time to time, usually in dark clothes so be awake and alert if you're out driving then. Jasmine Road is another place where people for some unknown reason walk along the road in dark clothes (more than once I've come across someone pushing a stroller) so keep your eyes peeled as there are no sidewalks for anyone to walk on safely. Bottom line, the Sheriff's Department Deputies in West Pasco County generally try to be professional and congenial. They are well trained and equipped to deal with escalation though. Treat them as you'd like to be treated so you don't have to find out what those escalation tactics are. The State police are a completely different kettle of fish so make sure you've got a camera running at all times tucked away in a corner of the car, ESPECIALLY if you're traveling down I-95 and look like you're vacationing. Ok... So I had a pipe break on the outside of my house tonight... 10:30 water EVERYWHERE.... I CALL CRYING, FREAKING OUT... his reply... Can't help u call a plumber... I didn't need a cop...to do any home repairs, fix anything... Just drive by and tell me how to turn off the water! My neighbor, a man....came over & turned my water off at the box in the front yard... I was frantically looking inside my house for a shut off... CAUSE ITS NOT MY FORTE...ITS A MAN THING! THATS THE PROBLEM... POLICE ARENT YOUR FRIENDS, NEIGHBORS, HAVE NO CARING SPIRIT FOR THOSE THAT NEED HELP! The guy who took my call was so antiseptic, I don't give a crap in his attitude it was disheartening to know these are the ones we think got there BECAUSE THEY CARE. Officer Jones called... Gave me lip service... Told me they are too busy... Please...stop acting like Pasco is NYC...I live here... I know 2 officers that sit every night in a parking lot chatting...Officer Jones said they are sooooo busy... Please... Tuesday night in Port Richey... Right... I called sheriff today have guy staying in my property that has been gone a month or so never paid ant rent worked off money he owed once ask him to leave would not go née he was dealing drugs out of my house and had a Warren for his arrest call the pasco sherrif dept. Non emergency on hold 4 to 7 min. They hung up on me had tried th at number several time before could get no answer they came out did nothing arrested him on misdemeanor warrant did not look in his room he had pot plants growing on front porch they did not get did not charge him with told me that they were not there for that and that means telling them what he had there it was doing was not probable cause for them to look at the room they could have busted him with drugs and paraphernalia and they bothered to check did not do blamed me reamed me made me cry told me I needed to evict him they treated me as the criminal not as the victim have never been more disappointed in our police department and I was tonight they informed me he will get out in 2 or 3 days come back to my house which he threatened to burn down I can do nothing I have to evict him and they did nothing to stop him to help me as the victim nothing felt like I was bothering the police officer asking for help this is not how the systems work took them 3 hours to show up in the first place officer told me do you think you're the only one that called the police tonight like I was bothering him I felt as if I was bothering the police department like they were not there to assist me in helping me with this Criminal such a sad state our police department has come to the man threatened to burn my house down threatens my other renter with violence but that wasn't good enough still pot plants on the front porch and I'm sure drugs and paraphernalia in that bedroom read more
