We got the malasadas and we thought it was okay. The breading was soft and the sugar on top of it gave it a nice crunch. The cream in the inside was also okay too. Felt a bit thicker than what I'm used to. They have sound seating outside and bring out the food to you.
Came for the malasadas and was disappointed. Basically a donut w glaze on top. No filling inside. I hate to give bad reviews to small businesses. But have to be honest. These Malasadas are not Hawaiian Malasadas. I did not try any other food or than malasadas.

The bread itself was nice and soft. That was the best part. I thought there was a little too much sugar and not enough of the cream filling. Made the bread part a little plain where there was no cream. But the flavor of the cream was great. There was plenty of seating outside but don't overstay as a line had formed by the time I was ready to go. Glad I stopped by but looking forward to trying other spots.
We came here as our last stop before hitting the airport and flying back home. We were excited to try their malasadas. They were sold out of the POG malasadas, so we ordered 1 mango and 1 lilikoi to-go. We ate them on the plane and they were delicious! Friendly staff members. She assured us that they would last a few hours on the plane, and she was right! I wish we ordered more flavors to try.
The passion I have for Passion Bakery is unparalleled. Lit-erally the best malasadas on the island. They are delicious with a variety of flavors including ube, lilikoi, vanilla, raspberry cream, etc... They also do preordering online, so you can roll up late and still get them hot when you're ready!!! An angelic place. Get there if on Kauai. Love, a malasada queen
Went to Passion Bakery for breakfast to try their "famous malasadas". Got the guava filled malasada and also too their Java Chip Mocha Frappuccino. Unfortunately being from Oahu with having Leonard's Bakery malasadas, these malasadas were rather mid compared to that. The guava filling was the artificially flavored type. But other than that it was a decent/above average sweet treat. The malasadas itself I'd say was 3 stars. However, the star was the Java Chip Mocha Frappuccino. The thing I loved most about it was that the java chips were small enough where it never got stuck in the straw and was evenly consistent with every sip. By far the best java chip mocha frappuccino in my book! I'd come back for this one. It made starbucks seem mid tbh. Service was friendly and efficient. And the ambiance, though quite small it was fresh with the smell of a malasadas bakery :) Plus a few tables and plenty parking outside. Overall I'd give it a 4 stars. Definitely coming back for that java chip frappuccino YUM!!!
Passion Bakery Cafe is an absolute must if you're on the hunt for fresh malasadas! We came bright and early, and it was 100% worth it. We ordered the Lilikoi, Haupia, and Ube malasadas -- and WOW. All of them were so good, but the ube was our favorite! Soft, fluffy, perfectly sweet, and filled with so much flavor. You can really taste the freshness. The employees were also so sweet and kind, which made the experience even better. It's always nice to feel welcomed, especially early in the morning. Another big plus is the private parking lot with plenty of spaces -- super convenient! There's also lots of outdoor seating in a courtyard surrounded by beautiful plumeria trees (and some friendly chickens walking around), which adds to the whole island charm. Such a delicious and peaceful spot to start your day -- we'd definitely come back again!
I'm not a huge sweets person but I really enjoyed the tropical flavors of these. We also got the coffee flavored one which was really good should have saved my coffee with eat with it.
Best malasadas on Kauai. Fresh, warm, crispy outside, airy inside, and overall a great sweet treat. Their most popular one is the POG malasada which did not disappoint. The filling is thicker than Leonard's Bakery (Oahu), similar to butter cream texture rather than ooey-gooey. You need to wait a bit after placing your order, but it's worth it.

Wow! Go here! First time having malasadas in Hawaii and these were fantastic and memorable! Not too sweet, which is the best part. The filling in the middle is perfection. I read many reviews which led me to go to this particular spot, and I was not disappointed. Hot and fresh donuts in a beautiful courtyard area. I hiked the Kuilau Ridge Trail one morning and then got these donuts. Quick and friendly service. Iced coffee with coconut milk was delicious, too.
Read a lot about the Malasadas so had to try them from Passion Bakery. It's a very busy place and due to it being small inside they only allow a few people at a time to order food. They offer breakfast sandwiches and other items. Staff were very helpful and we ordered several of the Malasadas. We ordered the Vanilla Bean, Lilikoi, Mango and Ube. They were warm when we picked them up. They were delicious but have plenty of napkins as they are quite messy. There are several tables outside and most were taken.
A must-stop bakery in Kauai! This was my first time in Kauai, and Passion Bakery was such a great find. I ordered the Kahlúa loco moco and it was absolutely delicious. I ended up ordering a few baked goods as well, and everything was fresh and tasty. Parking can be a bit rough, and they're definitely very busy, but the customer service was excellent, friendly, and efficient. There's outdoor seating available on a first-come, first-served basis not a ton of seats, but enough to enjoy your food if you're lucky. Next time I'm back in Kauai, I can't wait to return. Highly recommend stopping by if you're in the area!

Absolutely delicious! The malasadas were made fresh right then and there, and they were incredible. We also tried a shortbread-style cookie (I can't remember the name!), and it was SO good. We sampled all the flavors, and honestly, every single one was delicious. Definitely a must-visit if you're in Kauai! It's a smaller establishment but they have seating outside with covers. The service was very friendly. read more
Uniquely kind and patient staff, especially "Auntie Shana." Fairly priced pastries, with the inside looking like typical donut cafe. The UBE and POG Malasadas I tried are delicious on their own way, with the UBE being mildly sweet and wonderfully satiating and POG is nice and fruity. I didn't think it was too sweet or had too much filling at all, and I don't like donuts with fillings typically. For all these reasons, I think tourists and locals alike should try this place at least once. read more

Ok, lets start with the positive and the thing that matters most... food! The food was great overall! i got the pulled pork loco moco because I was hungry and it was decent with good portion size. The malassadas were amazing. I got the ube, POG and mango. And they were all great in their own way and would love to try other flavors. The "meh" aspect of my visit - it took a long time to order/get my food. I know they make things fresh but I just couldn't believe how long it took for each party to move through. Now, once I got to the front, the servers were really friendly and kind, and the food was great. But time your visit so you don't spend 45 minutes waiting around. read more

We came here as our last stop before hitting the airport and flying back home. We were excited to try their malasadas. A must-stop bakery in Kauai! This was my first time in Kauai, and Passion Bakery was such a great find. I ordered the Kahlúa loco moco and it was absolutely delicious. I ended up ordering a few baked goods as well, and everything was fresh and tasty. This place was very good! We came for the malasadas but tried other options they offered as well. Like everyone had mentioned, the malasadas are delicious! Next to the malasadas, I also got the loco moco. Despite it looking like a small plate, it was definitely packed with food! It was very yummy and filling, it was also a bit more on the saucy side. The service was pretty quick and friendly. It is a small locally-operated so the inside of the place only allows 4 people at most inside. The eating area is outside with some seating and umbrellas to cover you from the tropical sun. There's some chickens out looking for food, so just know they'll be around you (as they will be in Hawaii). Overall, 100% recommend and definitely try their dishes on top of their malasadas!! read more
I've had malasadas on different islands. I've had them in Oahu, if you know you know. I've had them in Maui & Big Island but NOTHING compares to Passion Bakery. These are the most delicious malasadas I have ever had. They always taste fresh and always have the best fillings. The ratio of filling is important too and they never miss! It's always perfect! The breakfast is also so delicious. It's the perfect spot right before going to the beach up north when you just need a great meal! Michael has created a wonderful bakery and we are so grateful to have been able to enjoy all its had to offer! Keep in mind, there is no indoor dining which is totally fine! read more
Great place to check out for breakfast! We tried out a variety of their pastries and savory options - all very tasty. The malasadas weren't very sweet which is good. I learned that they make their malasadas fresh once you order as well as their savory items. Only the pastries on display are ready right away. Stopped by for a quick breakfast and enjoyed the food! We stopped by Saturday morning around 8:30 am and it wasn't too crowded. There's no indoor seating but there is plenty of outdoor seating around the cafe. They offer a variety of pastries as well as breakfast sandwiches and plates which are available anytime. There are also limited lunch options in the form of sandwiches and plates. I was mainly here for the malasadas. I got 4 of them to try: the original ($2.85) as well as coconut, mango cream, and vanilla bean ($3.50 each). They came out quickly and were still nice and warm. My favorite was the regular and coconut. I was disappointed in the mango as it didn't taste like mango at all. The interesting thing about their cream filled masaladas is that most of the cream is outside the malasada. I'm used to the opposite, where most of the cream is inside, but it's a bit easier to eat this way. My friend also got the Jalapeno Popper breakfast sandwich ($14.99), which he absolutely loved. read more

Stopped here for breakfast/snacks and it hit the spot. The malsadas were really tasty and I liked my drink. The cheesecake wasn't my favorite but it was good. My boyfriend liked his coffee roll thing too! Friendly staff and order came out quick despite it behind busy! Good stop if you're headed out on a day trip. read more

A lazy morning at our condo called for some fresh malasadas! I'd been eyeing this place for a while and we finally got to try it. I got a half dozen of the traditional cinnamon sugar malasadas for my girls and I ordered an ube filled and a Lilikoi filled for myself. Hands down the best malasadas we had on the island. They were fresh and warm! I wanted to get here to try some of their other food and beverage options, but sadly we ran out of time. Will have to come back for sure! read more

I believe we came here 2 times during our one week stay in Kauai. Honestly wish we'd made it a third because I wanted to try the French toast SO badly but even getting there by 7:35am-ish we still didn't make it on time and it was sold out. BUT.. no fear thr malasadas were near and we took advantage to fulfill our cravings. I love this place so much and I've seen the reviews saying "meh" but I'm not sure if you'd ordered the right thing.. like their malasadas are so incredibly doughy.. soft and the 14+ filling options means you can't leave here saying they are just "meh" more like AMEHZING Thank you Passion Bakery for your wonderful hospitality and making us feel so welcomed. There's seats outside so you really just order and wait outside until it's ready but there's just something magical about eating breakfast and hearing the roosters crow that you can just sit there all day and keep ordering all day. The vibes are full of love and you feel it with how well they make their food and those breakfast sandwiches hit the spot with the amount of bacon and egg ours had. So I was excited to try this place and finally made it. I was a little disappointed in both the food and prices. We paid over $70 for two breakfast sandwich's, 2 iced coffees, 1 small bite size puff pastry and 2 malasadas. Our breakfast at sandwiches were not great but just okay. The malasadas were good and the puff pastry was good but tiny. Our coffees were cool and the staff was very friendly but for the price we paid I expected for it to be a bit better. There are a lot of places on the island I'd recommend where you get more bang for your buck. The place itself is a small little place but has a good amount of seating outside. Probably won't be back sadly. read more

Our first time trying malasadas and I think we picked a great one! We'd heard the wait for the malasadas could be a little while because they are fresh so we put in a pick up order when we were about 15 min out. It's a small and simple shop with a big display case of available treats. We just got one plain cinnamon sugar one and a POG filled one as well. They were ready, hot and fresh when we arrived and we grabbed a little table outside to enjoy them. The plain one was tender and sweet and the POG filled one was bursting with flavor. It was an exceptionally orange color so be careful of your clothing as the filling likes to squirt out! We got the coffee as well which as others had mentioned was exceptionally hot, so do make sure it give it a few minutes and be careful. A nice patio outfront was there for us to enjoy our treats and listen to the local birds chirp. read more

Was staying accross the street so popped in this cute cafe! They have outdoor seating and it feels very local and cheers-esque where they have some regulars. It's only open til noon FYI. They had coffees, teas, and plenty of options for breakfast and local Hawaiian plates as well. Everything I saw looked delicious. I settled on a malasanga (sp) which was like a cinnamon donut with filling of your choice. I got ube which was tasty! I hope I get a chance to try more options here before heading home! read more
While we were exploring the east side of the Kauai, we came across the Passion Bakery in Lihue because it is highly rated in Yelp. We got the signature breakfast sandwich and waited outside, it took them a bit longer to deliver the dish but the staff is very friendly and funny and we didn't mind the wait. The sandwich is pretty big for one person so we shared between us, it was pretty yummy and hit the spot. Definitely a good breakfast stop before a long drive to the north shore. read more

Came here with my hubby today at 11 am. The bakery was very busy. The cashier greeted us warmly with a smile. We shared a kahlua pork plate (shredded pork with gravy over rice, 2 eggs -one over easy, one sunny side up), lilikoi malasada, ube malasadas and two cups of coffee). The kahlua pork was very tender and the eggs were cooked perfectly. Wished the gravy had a little more flavor. The malasadas were already cold. It makes a difference when they are hot and/ or fresh from the oven. I remembered it to be a little bigger when we had it two years ago. The dough was on the dense side and it needed a little more filling. Overall, it was a satisfying meal. The coffee was scalding hot but was delicious. We ate at one of the tables outside. It was so entertaining to see the chickens walking around. It added to the charming ambiance. I must say that the service was excellent. read more

So...good..!!! Came for the malasadas, and wow, did they ever not disappoint! Pretty small and nondescript place, but with a friendly, hard working staff. They were pretty busy and apologized to us for the wait (which was not that long). Lots of things looked really good (wish we'd had time to go back), but we came with one goal: malasadas. And like I said, wow. Mind blowing. Amazing. Delicious. I had a cinnamon sugar with cream and a sugar with mango. Both great. And really hot and good coffee (just how you want it). We tried the Matcha Malasada and the ube shortbread and they were both very good. The malasada was warm and fresh. The matcha cream didn't really taste of matcha at all, but it was the right color. It tasted more of cream cheese. While I didn't like this aspect of it, the bake was good so overall, I was still able to enjoy it. The ube shortbread was good too with the right color, but again, can't really taste the ube flavor. I enjoyed the saltiness to this cookie. While I wasn't blown away, I still enjoyed it and would consider coming back to try it again another time. read more
Passion Bakery Cafe was walking distance from where my husband and I were staying during our Kauai holiday vacation, so we ended up going there a few times over the week. There were so many malasada flavours to try so we'd pick a few different ones to share each visit - POG was definitely a favourite! Timing seems key here as there was always a line when we went - sometimes the line was shorter and sometimes longer. That being said, most people seemed to order to-go, so we never had trouble finding a seat after ordering. Despite the busy-ness, the staff were always friendly, relaxed (island vibes?), and happy to offer suggestions if you felt overwhelmed by all the options. They also offer other sweet and savoury items, but we stuck to the malasadas - with zero regrets. We don't make it out to Kauai often, but Passion Bakery Cafe will definitely be a stop when we do! read more
Fresh Malasadas ! We ordered ube , mango and pog. (Coconut not available). While I'm not a lover of ube , this was easily the best of the bunch. Malasadas was crazy good without the filling, but the ube was a compliment while mango and pog was more a contrast .(and I love everything mango). My wife ordered the Hawaiin French toast meal, I got the Kaula pork loco moco . Both were very delicious, loco moco was better between the two. Coffee and a can drink, total was about $45 Super friendly service. There was sufficient seating outside. Final rating 4.5 , will return during our trip. Not a disappointment read more

After reading the rave reviews, we just had to stop in to Passion Bakery Café to try the malasadas, which are apparently only available on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. It's a small place in an unassuming shopping center with outdoor seating only. You order at the counter, and someone usually brings your order to you outside when it's ready. Don't come here if you are in a hurry. There's usually a line, and it does not usually move quickly. Your order may not come up quickly either, but there's a reason. The quality here is amazing and worth the wait. They serve a lot more than malasadas here, and the plates of food I saw go by definitely looked impressive. They also serve beverages, including coffee. But I can vouch for the malasadas. Once I got them back to my condo, my wife and I devoured them. We ordered two sugarcoated ones with POG filling and two cinnamon-sugar coated ones with espresso filling. Oh my. The dough was soft and delicious, and the filling was heavenly--not artificial tasting at all. The best malasadas I have tasted anywhere. If you have the time, do yourself a favor and stop in here. You will not regret it! read more

Passion Bakery makes hot, fresh malasadas every day. We stopped in right at opening to avoid the crowds and were greeted by the delightful scent of baked goods. This was my first time trying malasadas, so I wanted to make sure and order a variety. We tried four fillings, all dusted with cinnamon sugar. My personal favorites were the matcha and chocolate, both incredibly creamy and buttery. They have a great system set up to get your baked goods to you quickly. We ordered at the counter, and waited outside for about 15-minutes before being delivered our treats. I would highly recommend stopping by if you're in the Kapa'a area! This is the perfect treat to take with you on your trip to either side of the island. read more
