I was picked for duty and ended up being there for about 2 weeks, at what I could see was a pretty cut and dry case. We were provided with lunch, which was actually quite good, and you got to choose what you wanted from a menu in the mornings. Not much of a review! But how can you review somewhere like this! The building itself is massive and architecturally grand, which is nice to visit even if you aren't there for anything in particular.

It has a great setting and it has a 'Grand Entrance' but it is in need of some TLC. The ticket office is more often closed tham open (pot luck?) Seating is available but a proper shelter from the weather is a big miss.

The lady behind the counter was really friendly and was ok with my scattered brain the morning after a late night out. It also had loads of notifications of customer satisfaction for a water side station, which was nice to see.

I'm proud to say I'm no longer scared of the Underground (well, most of the time) but I do still have an issue with navigating my way around Glasgow at times! This is a large sized conference centre (despite appearances) and your experience might change depending on what you're there for. There's lots of rooms for breakout sessions, a good sized canteen/cafe area for meals and there seems to be a good mix of large/small rooms. When I visited I believe the catering was done in house and I thought it was really delicious, which isn't something you'd normally say at a conference. My only negative comment would be that there seemed to only be a few toilets in the building - perhaps I missed main ones somewhere, but there was only two cubicles so could be a bit of a wait during breaks. There's plenty of parking in the streets surrounding, just make sure you have lots of change and aren't in a hurry as when I visited, a lot of the machines were out of order.

I used to be told when I first moved to the area all those years ago 'Partick's fine. Just don't go past the train station, that's where it gets a bit sketchy...' Me being the daredevil I am I did upon a few occasions venture past said Partick Train station and it wasn't great but it wasn't as scary as folk made out. There just wasn't much really in the way of decent shops. Now there are lots of great wee shops and businesses in this area. I am a big fan in partick-ular (oh, I had to do the bad pun!) of the many second-hand furniture shops on Dumbarton Road. They're full of great bargains and absolutely brilliant if you're setting up a home in the area & you need some furniture at a really great/cheap price. There are also loads of nice charity shops, newsagents, cafes, hair salons, nail/beauty bars, pubs and pretty much everything you should require is in the Partick area. It also has it's on library, cricket ground, mini park and aforementioned train station, 2 subway stations (if you include Kelvinhall, which I do) and a bus station. Living in Partick you really have no need to use a car for getting about as the public transport is great. It was one of the reasons why I ended up moving back to Partick. Favourite places in Partick of mine are: Station Wok & Crazy Wok (Chinese/take away), Cafe Avanti (chip shop/cafe), The Sparkle Horse (pub), The Tea Garden (cafe), Morrison's (for handiness), the HUGE British Heart Foundation shop (great again for furniture), The Pacific (for cocktails), Siempre, Meadow Road, My Home Bakery, Deli/Cafezique and newcomer, For Fika Sake for coffee and cakes and I know there are LOADS more so if you should ever find yourself in Partick you'll never be stuck for something to do or somewhere to eat/drink/shop.

So if you are plotting an elaborate scheme to get arrested by some hot young police officer then I would commit your crime in another stations jurisdiction! I promise my dealing with the Johnstone Police Station haven't involved me divulgating in any illegal activity. However I did pay them a visit when I had £500 stolen from my bank account and they were extremely helpful. I mostly dealt with PC Jennifer Binnie and while I am sure she had much more pressing matters to deal with she happily let me rant away about my £500 and promise she would alert the "fraud squad". Now at this point I did think she was making fun of my dilemma, Fraud Squad? That can't exist surely? Do they work closely with The A Team? Apparently though the Fraud Squad is a really thing! I did get my £500 back thanks to my bank but I don't think the police ever caught the perpetrators. However it was still nice to be taken seriously. My only other dealing with Johnstone Police Station is to hand in lost dogs. For some reason I seem to come across lost dogs more often than the average person! The police are always very nice about it even though I'm not sure if that is what you are supposed to do with a lost dog!? They humor me anyway even if that's not the correct protocol!

I had the misfortune to be attacked by a thug less than half my age and twice my size. Having been knocked unconscious by the first blow, I lay on the ground, totally unaware that this animal was still punching lumps out me while I lay prone on the pavement. Apparently the thug was dragged off me before I suffered possible fatal injuries. As it was, I had six broken ribs a collapsed lung and a dislocated shoulder and spent several days in hospital. And what do our wonderful boys in blue decide is an appropriate solution to the complaint of a disturbance? Yes you guessed it. They charge both the assailant and myself with having committed the offence of having a stand up fight in public?, and issue us both with a fixed penalty of a £40 fine. Needless to say I never paid, while my assailant knowing he had got off lightly paid his fine immediately. Now as though that doesn't sound bad enough. I am registered disabled and suffer from angina, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and arthritis. I was 58 years old at the time of the offence, also I have never been in trouble with the Police in my life. . My assailant however was a 26 year old builder who was built like the side of a house. He also has several convictions for assault. Did these stupid Police Officers not look at this and think . Mmm wait a minute something is not right here especially when twenty people watched the incident and not one person would speak out for fear of recriminations from this thug. I was in agony for almost a year afterwards and made several; complaints about the Police handling of this case. Eventually an Inspector Patterson conceded that the case had been handled wrongly right from the start and that my assailant should have been charged with a serious assault. Three years on I have just been awarded a five figure sum in criminal injuries compensation, but that was no thanks to the brainless Police Officers from Johnstone Police Station who couldn't work out why an old disabled man would not get involved in a brawl with a strong young hoodlum. I shall refrain from naming the officer in question for the sake of his career. But you know who you are PC. H.. ..Johnstone Police? pathetic. On the positive side , a PC Lyle who was on his very first shift as a Police Officer at the time of my assault and who was later called as a witness at my criminal Injuries appeal, answered all the question put to him by the criminal injuries board completely honestly , despite this raising questions as to his colleagues handling of the case on the night in question. His honesty and integrity ensured that I received the compensation I was due. Thank you PC Lyle.

The post office is located in the back of the news agent/convenience store. Service was quick and speedy, just the how I like it. The staff are quite friendly and helpful. Overall, they are pretty knowledgeable about postal and royal mail services. It was hilarious to overhear the customer before me wanting to send a parcel by courier. To which the woman replied, "we don't do courier service here... where are you sending it to?" The man replied, "I don't know." The woman was patient as she explained that she couldn't help him if he didn't know where it was going... what a numpty.

Yes, it does feel slightly strange doing this review but I reckon needs must. There are times in…read moreeveryone's life when the job front is looking bleak and you need to go a hunting. While, there are lots of fancy websites now geared completely towards this end; sometimes only the job centre will do. Unfortunately, this is a fact that an increasing number of people are having to accept in the recession crisis. So here goes - this particular job centre is decent enough. It has the standard colours, decor and fixtures and fittings. It's clean, relatively tidy and always pretty well staffed. It does, however, have limited job hunting machines which means that you need to time you job hunting well or else you could be onto a loser. Meanwhile, the interactions you endure - yes, endure - with staff and other 'customers' is a very mixed bag. Some are very sweet and helpful; while others are extremely strained. For instance, when enquiring about what kind of graduate work they could find me and telling them my Arts degree, I was actually laughed at. This followed by a "Well, you won't find anything with that will you?". Government at it's best.
