    Ponche de segovia

When in Segovia, you must try ponche de Segovia! And this is a great place to try it! What I ordered: They had a wide selection of desserts to choose from, but I of course had to get the ponche. I am not a huge marzipan fan, but it just hits different here. It's so sweet so if you don't have a huge sweet tooth, I recommend sharing with someone! The price is 3€ for an individual ponche, which I think is pretty good. There were a couple of tables in the back if you feel like sitting for a cup of coffee with dessert.

In Segovia there are three typical dishes: Suckling pig, La Granja beans and Segovia ponche. This is a rich lemon-infused sponge cake coated with marzipan and topped in icing sugar with a distinctive criss-cross pattern. And right at the edge of the Plaza Mayor, you'll find this yummy little Pasteleria that serves this and other tempting choices. Gayle and I stopped here at Limón y Menta during a recent day trip to Segovia. It was late in the morning on Día de Hispania, and things were still quiet. We ordered or delicious pastries and took a seat at the rear coffee shop for or Solo and Con Leche choices. The selection up front was rich, our time together was soothing, and it was a smart first stop for what turned out to be an enjoyable Segovia Día.

Walked by the bakery and saw tons of baked goodies! Loved the huge selection & managed to grab myself a box of assorted cookies. Great choice selection! On the sweeter side so would be perfect with a cup of tea or coffee!

MARZIPAN MARZIPAN MARZIPAN. Guess what I ordered here? A marzipan :) My mom and I found out about this bakery through Rick Steve's guide book. The actual term is ponche segoviano, or marzipan cake. The bakery sells "porcion de ponche" 3€, which is what I bought, or "torta de ponche" for 10€ per 1/2kg, which is what I wish I had bought :( Now onto my favorite part: the marzipan cake itself. Goodness, how do I even start describing this wonder block of pastry perfection? Perhaps as a hybrid of rich egg tart-custard-cream-mochi goodness. In between the bottom egg-custard layer and the denser crumbly layer is a plane of chocolate-cinnamony cream, wrapped in this opaque mochi layer and topped with some type of honey glaze and powdered sugar. I really don't know how else to describe it. It's just. So. Good. It's very sweet though. But. It's just. So. Good. They say Toledo's bakeries have great marzipan (it's aite), but let me tell you, Segovia's is better. Go here for a taste of marzipan heaven--you won't regret it.

Well arranged pastries Held up to the reviews. Affordable, fresh baked goodies. Best to come with a friend to try an assortment of items as you'll find some of the pastries very sweet and requires 2 people to finish it.

It'll damn near make you cry!

End your trip to Segovia with a bang at Limón y Menta. Order the Ponche Segoviano. I don't like lemon desserts at all but the Ponche Segoviano was so damn delicious. Such a great way to end our Segovia day trip. Except the coffee we didn't try anything else because everyone keeps writing about the Ponvhe Segoviano. Please go try it.

Their Ponche Segoviano is no joke. Buy it, buy it now. I'm not sure what anything else tastes like as this was my only purchase but it super yummy.

Came here while passing through the plaza during siesta, and had no idea it was a Rick Steve's recommendation/the best place for ponche Segovia, which we of course had to try. Right next door is the place that apparently invented it? But they didn't have seating so we rounded the corner and stumbled into Limon y Menta. Individual ones are 3E or you can get an entire thing for 12E. We got a smaller one to try first and enjoyed it so got a big one for our breakfast the next day. Numerous other desserts as well and solid wifi!

This was our go-to breakfast cafe in Spain. Everything we tried was amazing from matcha to lattes to the bre-tzels and pastries.

Based on the definitive opinions of travel vloggers, this appeared to be the place to get the fabled chocolate con churros. Jamie W and I made our way here through the labyrinth of streets near Puerta del Sol. It was early evening so no surprise there was a queue, but it moved quickly because this historic place was a model of efficiency. It's the type of place where you need to be ready to order the moment you're in front of the hostess. Luckily, we had made mental notes of what to order from one particular vlogger, so we were ready. It only took a minute to secure one of their marble cafe tables. Our order arrived fairly quickly. It consisted of a 2,5€ plate of Churros, six long sticks of chewy, delicious dough. Unlike the Mexican version, it wasn't dusted with sugar because the 3,7€ cup of Hot Chocolate was more than enough (Photo 8). Incredibly rich and only lightly sweetened. The churros might've been enough for a neophyte, but we double-downed with a 2,5€ order of two Porros (Photo 7). Porras are a thicker, doughier version of churros, so of course, they were our favorites because they really held the chocolate with assurance. Even though we went through two cups of hot chocolate, we still had 2,4€ cups of Cafes con Leche to wash it all down (Photo 10). It was an ideal dessert experience because who doesn't love awesome doughnuts? Definitely a must-gorge when in Madrid. Don't get me wrong - they do indeed have a whole bunch of food vendors that all looked extremely good. Some of them were tourist-priced (ok, a majority of them were tourist-priced), but none of them looked *bad*, just not *necessarily* worth the price, when you could go any number of places nearby and get food as good, for cheaper. But there were definitely some hidden gems, including one absolutely wonderful tapas place that we ordered a bunch of little tostas from, of all different sorts, that we were absolutely impressed by and happy with all of. And of course, the vendor I had originally been most excited about, La Hora del Vermut, which does indeed offer both very inexpensive, great "house" vermouth, and very affordable fancy vermouths. I would've loved to hang out at a bar like that... if I could do so and also *move*. See, the thing is... this market is absolutely not big enough for all its accolades. As Yogi Berra may or may not have ever said, "No one goes there nowadays, it's too crowded." At least I probably wouldn't ever go back there... we could barely hear to order tapas at the tapas place, and good luck finding a place to eat if you're not taking it to go. Good luck actually making it to one of the vendors further away from the entrance, either. It was an absolute madhouse, so we ordered a bunch of tostas at once, I braved the insanity to get a couple glasses of vermouth and met my wife outside the actual market to eat them on the steps. And that was the *off* season - if it's like that in January, I could only imagine it in May! Great vendors, but as a market, they really need better crowd management / foot traffic control.
