The place has this ambience where it makes you want to sit and relax, given the intimate seating room is hidden at the back, away from the morning rush. The waitress was quick and friendly as well. They were very generous on the smile, which was nice. We got come cappuccino and ginger coffee to go with maritozzi, bombolone, and this strawberry cake covered in marzipan. J'adore les pannetone. A priori il y a une période de l'année où c'est plus simple à trouver et l'été peu de places en proposent. Mon guide de voyage mentionnait cette pasticceria comme le lieu où je pourrais en trouver une en plein mois d'août. Quelle belle découverte, une place d'un autre temps, très chic wt élégante. Marchesi is a historical pasticceria in Milan. I've tried many things throughout the years and I always enjoyed it with extreme satisfaction. Today I went in to buy a pear almond tart I saw in the pastry case yesterday when I was walking by. Unfortunately it was sold out so I had to choose a backup cake. Well everything looked good, the Mont Blanc in particular looked very very interesting, but I finally decided for a modified torta della nonna, a sweet pastry crust, filled with pastry cream covered with frangipane and shaved almond + pine nuts. This is a perfect Milanese cafe that has been open since 1824. The ceilings and bar are beautiful and retains its old time charm. Pay for your espresso or cappuccino at the cashier before bringing your receipt to the barista at the bar. The brioches are also amazing, with a hint of orange zest. We also ordered an orange juice, which the barista squeezed for us fresh right before our eyes. Amazing! read more

On our last day in Milan, this was one of the pastry shops at which we stopped for breakfast. I had a cappuccino at the front and then joined the other three in the back where the pastries chosen were on the table. I shared some of the pastries as they were divided up and they were quite good. I couldn't tell you what they were but I enjoyed this breakfast. read more

Busting at 8h30, locals taking their Espresso in-stride with a pastry and newspaper in hand, It was with one member of the group jockeying for position at the bar that the rest waited patiently for a woman behind the counter, her English flawless as a dozen items were gathered, nearly fifteen minutes that could have been saved had someone merely informed us that a middle-aged fellow was standing in the rear dining room doing nothing, his job being to arrange orders and deliver them to the table. In business since 1824, and thus apparently doing many things right along the way, first tastes of Marchesi's goods included a smooth Custard Tartlet that reminded many of Chess Pie in America, the Raspberry Croissant and Heart-Cut Pie of Apricot also quite impressive while the "Cream Croissant" was unexpectedly bland and flaccid, the custard not filling a cavity but instead folded into the dough. Significantly overcharging for petit-fours, each single bite €2,00 - €2,50, good bites were nonetheless seen for those featuring Marzipan, the Apple Walnut Pastry too dry to be fully enjoyable while the Corenetto and warm cylinder of Rice Pudding riddled with Raisins were each executed flawlessly. read more

When I visited my Milanese chef friends here a few years ago, and who are in love with their home town, this is where we stopped first. Pasticceria Marchesi has been here forever and it maintains the old-school traditions. If you want an espresso, or anything from the coffee bar you must pay the lady at the cashier first and then take the ticket to the barista where your order will then be filled. Enjoy your drink at the bar, but don't loiter too long. Lovely one-of-a-kind establishment. 5 stars! read more

Delicious little pastry shop near a tram stop. Had a lemon tartlet, strawberry tartlet and some candies and sat in the back room. Went during a nice lull, there were only a handful of people in the entire place. Would definitely return! read more
