I'm not surprised that the lines for this gelateria extend out the building and to the curb; part…read moreof it is that there's not much room to form a designated line inside, and most of it is that the gelato here is exceptional! My favorite are the amarena (dark cherry) and the pistacchio, but there are plenty of options to choose from including frappes. There's a fair amount of seating on the inside, including a kid's table at the back that most people miss. I highly recommend coming to La Romana on a hot summer day to cool off.

It took us about 5-10 minutes to be serviced. I totally see why though. The service was superb! It's like she didn't even know there was a line and treated us like we were the only one present. The flavors were in Italian, so we needed some help understanding what we were ordering. Our gelaterista was so patient with us. She spoke English but wasn't entirely fluent, but definitely tried her hardest to help us. She even offered us a sample of one flavor after we had already paid because she could tell we wanted to know about the Mint flavor. I ended up with Lemon (my favorite flavor anywhere) and Apricot. MAMMA MIA! The apricot! There were the tiniest bits of it in every bite! My favorite gelateria by far!

The cannolis were on point. Left very satisfied and will leave Venice with the taste of tre mercanti as one of the highlights. Don't wait too long to get it because they run out. Even when you go at opening there will be a small line.

They also sold cannoli and macarons, coffees, and jarred food items. We started our wait at the bridge, which didn't look too long from there. Once we reached the door, I saw that the queue continued to snake inside. I waited an hour to finally order. They make tiramisu freshly daily, including different flavors. I felt compelled to try all 3 that they had in stock at the moment. I noticed that the flavors did switch up while I was there as employees appeared to be making new batches with a pistachio colored cream. I tried the classic tradition, amaretto & almond milk, and hazelnut. Call me crazy but the the traditional one was my least favorite of the 3. Sure, it was a tasty tiramisu, but this is the best in all of Venice? The other 2, however, exceeded my expectations. The hazelnut tasted like a Ferrero Rocher, and the amaretto & almond milk was my favorite since I'm a huge fan of marzipan type of flavors.

Their selection is amazing and you can taste a very good coffee there as well. Their customer service is wonderful and she called a taxi driver to come and take me to the train station. My cousin who is living there about 40 years told me that a mom and her two sons run this business since the husband/father passed a while ago. Ambiance was so great and welcoming. Two thumbs up for PASTICCERIA FLEGO VERONA

Tons of amazing looking pastries in the counter. Chocolates, cheesecakes and more. We skipped over all of that and sat in the back where we had Verona's equivalent of Lisbon's "Pastel de nata" except these are made with a short grain rice called "nano." They love their rice in Verona! With the "Risino" pastries, we also enjoyed coffee. And this espresso was super charged. I shouldn't have gotten a caffeinated drink this late in the afternoon because I was ready to go for the rest of the day and into the evening. Lots of terrific desserts and coffees here. Neat spot with a comfortable rear dining room. Well worth a return. [Review 16991 overall - 196 in Italy - 507 of 2022.]
