Pasticceria Volpato Anna Maria - Cappuccino and brioche!

Not all cappuccini and brioche are created equal. Our favorite little neighborhood bar, Volpato is…read moredoing it better than most! Their cappuccini are creamy and smooth, lots of yummy milk foam on top of warm, nutty espresso. The real show stopper though is their brioche! You can choose from croissants full of goodness like white chocolate, nutella, cream, pistachio... Each croissant is pumped full to the brim with filling. The brioche feels heavy when you pick it up and if you're not careful, a poorly placed bite can result in filling on your lap! Pro tip: use the spoon from your cappuccino to scoop out some of the filling and spread it evenly on top of the croissant. Volpato has ample parking in front of the restaurant (not usually the case in Italy) and lots of seating inside. Our favorite place to sit is out back in their huge garden/patio area. Add dog friendly and crazy cheap (two cappuccini and two brioche will run you less than €5) to the list and you begin to understand why we're here once or twice a week!

The magic of this place is most certainly their breakfast offerings. Their brioche are filled to the brim with nuttela, pistachio cream, pastry cream and some creation I have never had that is like a white chocolate nuttela. I can attest they have a solid beer, wine and Prosecco selection as well to round out their evening offerings. They shine in the A.M. though and make sure you show up early because the brioche al ciocollato bianco always sells out.

Dare I even say, in all of Italy?!? Tucked into a quiet little neighborhood in Caldogno, Gelateria Elefantino is a hidden gem, serving up the creamiest, most flavorful gelato I've ever had. On our first visit, I had the Tentassione -- cheesecake with passion fruit. So fresh and delicate, perfect for a hot summer day. My hubby had the tiramisu. I don't like coffee flavors stuff but I liked this flavor. From what I can understand from their website (it's all in Italian and I'm still learning), they make the gelato in house daily with local ingredients, free of artificial additives. They also had cases full of amazing looking cakes, toppings for the gelato and more. Their hours are great! Even open on Sundays from 11:30am - 11:30pm (during the summer). They have a well maintained Instagram account that highlights their rotating flavor of the week. Be sure to check it out. Anyone want to place a bet on how many times we're going to visit Elefantina while we're in Italy? It's going to be often!

From the herb garden to the foot bridge over the stream, which leads to the old mill and outdoor seating, everything is simply picture perfect and we're not even inside, yet! Once through the doors, it feels like you've stepped into a cozy cabin. (Or, an old mill house from the 1500's, as the case may be.) On our most recent visit, there were baskets of chestnuts, fresh fall flowers on each table, and lots of other thoughtful decorations throughout that made the restaurant warm and inviting. We so love the look and feel of this restaurant, we bought their postcard series with the Trattoria depicted in each of the 4 seasons to frame and hang in our house. Quite honestly, we would keep going back to Molin Vecio even if the food wasn't that great. However, I'm happy to report the food is also the stuff of dreams! Their menu changes seasonally with a few items on the menu year round. My only struggle with this spot is not over ordering every single time. Their antipasti, primi, and secondi are always so tempting, but trust me here... Be sure to save room for dessert! While I've had my fair share of amazing pastas, risottos, and fish and meat dishes here, the real star of Molin Vecio is their dessert. Somehow they manage to take two or three ingredients and turn them into a mind blowing plate of intense flavor. One of the best things I've ever eaten anywhere came during the dessert course at Molin Vecio -- perfectly ripe white peaches, tossed in a simple syrup, and fresh mint. So simple, yet, so incredibly fresh and flavorful. This is the common theme with food at Molin Vecio. We are looking forward to many more simple, mind blowing meals at this warm, welcoming Trattoria in Caldogno!
