And almost too pretty to eat. In the mists of all things green related ( hash brownies, cookies and so on), this was a perfect oasis. Centrum itself is filled with many shops, eateries and cafes. I was waiting for brunch one day when I stumbled upon this cute little bakery on yelp. It was located on a quiet street and was empty both when we went in and when we left. This left me feeling a bit uneasy and definitely caused me to reconsider whether or not I wanted to leave with anything or hit them with the "oh I was just looking thank you" and walk out but I ended up decided to get a box of 5 macarons. Their flavors are very interesting and I'm not so much a fan of fruity flavors but they have a lot of innovative fruity flavored macarons. This choco surprise is just one of the many unique creations of patissier Richenel's. Another showpiece is the snicker pie. Even the most spoilt kid will kiss your feet when you give this huge chocolate-peanut bar extraordinaire. The creator of all this sweetness not only is a genius, he is a health guru too. Richenel Doekhi, the former pastry chef of De Kersentuin, is determined to prove that less sugar certainly not means less taste. To intensify the taste of his pastries and cookies - love the bokkenpoten - he only works with pure ingredients. An excellent example is his apple macaroon, a sweet-sour mini apple pie with cinnamon cream and dried muscadet grapes. A bargain at 1.25 euro each.

What a find! Stumbled onto this fantastic shop/factory while ambling around. Twenty minutes later…read morewe left with 12 bars of chocolate (no judgment: SOME were for gifts), each wrapped beautifully, and offering a unique flavor or combination of flavors. The store portion has a large table with samples of nearly all of the bars. We sampled almost all of them -- what, we should just guess what they taste like?! (Usability note: the glass bottles that house the samples are not ideal; the opening is small and you can easily imagine a number of hands and fingers touching the spot where the samples come out.) In the back of the shop is, from what we could tell, their main factory, and they were busy churning out chocolates. Plus, near the register, there are chocolates by the pound. Yes, we got one of those as well. As we explored other shops in the city, we saw other chocolates and realized that Urban Cacao does white label production for many of them. Some of those stores had lower prices (and different options) than at the main shop we visited, but the selection and variety of flavors makes this a must-visit location.
