We had breakfast here for the first time and I think it's our new go to breakfast place. It's a decent enough place, but I don't know that it merits 4 1/2 stars. I ordered the Patty's Scramble, and waited a good 20 minutes for it. It was 95% eggs (somewhat overdone) with a little bit of spinach, mushroom, and tomato mixed into it. Sausage links on the side were good, though. Also, there's no alcohol, so if you're hoping for a mimosa or some such, you're out of luck. read more

My favorite breakfast spot in Salem ! Originally from California and I moved here in 2017 . This is my first breakfast spot I had when I moved here . Over the years the food has always stayed consistently great and portions are filling ! You can tell food is made with love here . My favorite is the blueberry pancakes and the herb biscuit and eggs Benedict . My daughter is now 15 and still ask for a kids pancake because Pattys uses m&m's to make smiley faces on the kids portions . I always love all the chicken statues in the restaurant. Since changing ownership in December they have gone down hill. No phone, had to go in and place a to go order and wait at least 20 mins. Then the biscuits and gravy was burnt and way over salted. My husband got the corn beef and hash which was burnt and greasy, not at all like we had before they switched ownership. Great service. Great food. No waiting. Family enjoyed the decor. The cinnamon roll was delicious and fresh. My only issue was I wasn't sure where the actual restaurant was initially... but pulling into the lot it became clear. The biscuits were made fresh and were a delight. The chicken fried steak was good compared to most of the competition. It was lightly under seasoned, but my Dr. would tell me to be happy about that and I like being able to add salt, rather than wishing my dish were less salty. Not pictured were the vanilla pancakes with chocolate chips which I was told were "perfection". I shall take her word for it as she didn't offer a bite. On my recent visit I walked in and didn't recognize the staff. The business had sold. I ordered my regular meal The Patty Scramble. The previous owners cooked scrambled eggs to a light and fluffy yellow, folded and placed on the plate with a light, but sufficient amount of toppings on it and made it look appetizing with sprigs of herbs and a slice of twisted orange. In other words they cared about how their food was presented. The new owner created a huge clumps of overcooked (browned) scrambled eggs with all the mushrooms inside piled on the plate. The sprig and orange slice were still there, but the whole plate was a just a pile of over cooked food. Some people prefer quantity and don't care about how it looks, but this is not how the previous owner presented their meals. I've been driving across town for this restaurant, but not anymore. It had been years since we had gone to breakfast here...like change in ownership and first time back long ago. Think classic old-school diner and that is the Off-Center Cafe. The changes to the dining room were nice...it is no longer fifty years of grease hanging in the air around mismatched dinette sets. The menu was quite a bit different but still your standard breakfast classics with their own signature dishes added in. I had a scramble that was more of a frittata. Coming back from the coast, we wanted to try something new. This is deservedly highly recommended and we were not disappointed. We were able to get a seat right away. Coffees and waters were brought right away, it took a while for our meals to arrive. I went for the chicken fried steak, no eggs and gravy on the side. It was fork tender, cooked to perfection. The herbed biscuit was good although somewhat heavy. I also got at l an English muffin and would recommend that to anyone following us. I may have had the last CFS for the day, I heard the servers say they had no more to people ordering after us. The wife had the California Benedict, it sounds like the last bernaise sauce for the day as well. She was very happy with her selection and thought the potatoes were some of the best ever. Our friend went for the corned beef hash, following the server's recommendation for the eggs to be basted. She was very delighted with the food and enjoyed every bite. Service was prompt and friendly. Our cups never went empty. It's an eclectic place so be prepared for them to decide not to do the lunch menu on a weekend day and to run out of some of the breakfast items. We stopped by this lovely little diner on our way to visit the capitol. It was my daughter's 3rd birthday and her grandma was visiting from out of town so we wanted to show her around Salem. This diner was the classic kitschy style diner with fun decor and cheeky signs. The food was delicious, home cooked style with a dash of piazzas. I love their jalapeño biscuit YUMMM!! Coffee was constantly refilled (love love love this). Oh and the server found out it was my daughter's birthday and they surprised her with a cinnamon roll, which the chef personally decorated!
