Best Mexican in Denver, I'm eagerly awaiting the outdoor patio addition for next year, on the heels of last years liquor license. Insanely affordable, nothing on the menu is bad. The free chips and salsa are always fresh (a little thing, but so many places around here screw that up). I love everything they do with fish, but my boyfriend loves the pork dishes (the abodavo in awesome). Don't be disturbed by the exterior; the bars on the windows and nearby empty storefronts have zero curb appeal, but its cute inside. Be aware of the new-ish tvs that play soccer games; the place can get crowded during a big match. read more

This place is great. We recently moved to Colorado from Arizona and have been going through serious withdrawals for lack of good mexican food. The green chile is awesome and tacos Albinil are super yummy. Dunk the tacos in the green chile and you are on your way to a little piece of heaven. I haven't eaten enough food in Mexico to be able to say how authentic this is, but their food beats the pants off other Mexican restaurants in Denver. This isn't the place to go for a cheese covered enchilada, this is the place to go for carnitas, tacos al carbon, pork chops, etc. In other words the stuff that I think people in Mexico actually eat on a regular basis. The staff is friendly although occasionally slow. The food is inexpensive and consistently good. read more

We came in on a Sunday & it was relatively quiet with free street parking nearby. I had grilled shrimp with guacamole and rice. Very tasty & not too much food. My husband had chicken enchiladas & horchata, the best he's ever had. Salsa with the chips was spicy. Excellent service. Great experience! read more

Came here for lunch today, they have an excellent outdoor patio that has a good combination of shade and sun. I got the asada taco plate which came with four tacos. The beef was cut thinly and piled high on each taco. Service was prompt and super friendly, actually really really friendly. The chips and salsa were on point - the salsa wasn't too spicy but had a good kick, the chips were crisp and lightly salted. Since we sat outside I didn't get a good feel of the ambiance inside but the restaurant was packed with a mix of patrons. I can't wait to go back to try the carnitas and enchiladas! read more

I am proud that this is my 100th review. I cannot express in words how much I love this place. I love the food, the drinks, and the employees. It's a family run business and they truly care about the experience. Unfortunately, I have moved far away and can now only dream about their incredible food. The first time I came here was like a re-birth. I was feeling bored by Mexican food and had even decided I didn't really want to eat it anymore. I ended up here by accident, and had to come at least once every week afterwards. The smothered burrito haunts me, I still dream about the perfect blend of salsa and guacamole over the warm burrito that is just out of the oven--my mouth is watering as I write. I LOVE their agua frescas, the sweetest and most flavorful I've ever had. Sometimes I want to buy a plane ticket just to experience this dish all over again. This was the least satisfying dining experience we had during our entire Colorado vacation. Yes, even the PB&J and BBQ chips picnic in the park (don't knock it 'til you try it) and the make-your-own momma' sandwich on the river-bank was more satisfying than our meal here at TP. It's not that the food was bad. The food was actually pretty decent. First off, the prices have increased. This is DEFINITELY NOT a one $ establishment. Looking at the photo of the menu (or the owner submitted menu? Hmm) and comparing to the actual menu, not the same prices are listed. Second, the portions are wee. My girls can always EASILY share an enchilada plate. We'll do this when there is no kids menu....and there is no kids menu at TP. I divided the entree and knew that I was in for it. I believe they served no more than 3 tablespoons of beans and maybe 1/3 cup of rice? It's really deceptive - the plate looks full of food but it's really just a small amount of food spread into a shallow plate. My girls left hungry but looked forward to a bag of popcorn in the hotel room. No we're not THAT cheap but we really didn't want to pay another 9 bucks and wait for another small plate of enchiladas. Good taste, bad value, couldn't recommend it and won't return. Ah well. You win some, you lose some. read more

Ive been coming here for a while. Im not a fan of chubbys over spiced mexican food, so I come here when I want real beans and Mexican rice, which to me is like fried rice with tomatoes, onions, green peppers, chillies and seasoning. You can add cilantro and cheese. I also like real moles, green, red and gaucamoles. Fresh avocado, salasa made in house and roasted chillies. The carnasada tampiquena plate with real steak portions, red sauce, rice, beans and tortillas are all authentically made and reccomdend . The Milensa steak woth potaotes and gaucamole delicioso. Also the green chillie pork, over potatoes is amazing with flour tortillas. The The tripe soup is also well prepared. I love the nachos with real jalapanoes, beans, and i add contijo cheese. The liquidors are also really good, i reccomdend the pineapple. read more

No tacos on menu as per some reviews. All bottled beer-no draft. Guacamole and beans needed seasoning. Tampequeno meat had good flavor but tough. Huge meat portions. Sopapillas very good. Service not bad. read more

Shame on you Patzcuaro's. Since i was young child I have been dining at your establishment, but I fear the gentrification of my beloved highlands has tarnished you. Your salsa which was once "hot as balls" and had incredible flavor has now been dumbed down to suit the tastes of young hipster gringos clad in neon and god damn skinny jeans. Upon a recent visit I over heard the owner assuring a young blonde, "the salsa is very mild." I wanted to puke. It is a sad day to see one of my childhood joints change to suit the tastes of the new hipster clientele. Shame on you Patzcuaro's......shame. read more

Sweet little taqueria in the heart of the Highlands. The carnitas burrito called my name...and it certainly delivered on flavor. It arrived in a nice, tasty bath of green chile sauce. Mmm. I LOVE super spicy food and I would say if you like your food on the mild side, you may have some serious heartburn to contend with after eating here. Even the salsa they serve with the chips is not for the timid. Hence, I love it. And my carnitas burrito only set me back $7.50. read more

No bueno. I finally went to this place in my neighborhood because of the great reviews and was excited for a new Mexican joint. Instead the service was extremely slow and borderline rude. The enchiladas were dry and nothing special and the salsa was extremely watery and almost flavorless. The nachos were also lame, chips smothered with beans and cheese and a pile of pickled jalapenos in the center. We were also charged for a beer we ordered but never arrived and had to flag down a server to correct the bill. I don't see any reason to ever go back again. read more

The best Mexican food I've ever had. I love this place so much and I go there regularly, usually about once a month. The staff is super friendly and the remember you if you come a few times. The tacos al carbon and the carnitas michoacan are my favorite things to order. The salsa is good and the guac is out of this world. I was told this place has some of the best Mexican food in Denver, and I have to agree. The green chilie is wonderful. I ordered a margarita and it was big and hit the spot for my marg craving but I have had better....hence the 4 instead of 5 stars. But overall the chips and salsa were amazing and the food was even better. Everyone I was with was a member of the 'clean plate club'. I've been to Taqueria Patzcuaro 3 times. The first time, it was amazing I had the Puntos a la Mexicana and it was outstanding. The service was very attentive, and it looked like a nice family restaurant. The second time I had the chicken enchiladas, which were pretty good except there was a piece of metal in the beans. I have previously worked in a restaurant and know thats typically from the steel that they scrub the pans with. Kind of scary if I swallowed it, but not a biggie. The third time the table adjacent from ours had cockroaches crawling on it... disgusting. I wont be back, and recommend you stay away unless you want a cockroach burrito. read more

This is my favorite Mexican restaurant in Denver. While I haven't tried them all, I've hit a good number of them, and this is easily the best. Everything's regionally authentic and nothing on the menu tops $12, which is a nice change from the places where you get charged $14 for a basic burrito. The menu is predominantly meat-based with very little seafood, but what they do, they do really well. The chips and spicy salsa are addictive, and the margaritas are decent but I much prefer the fruit juice liquados. The burritos are not Chipotle-style, but there's plenty there, and the green chile is quite good. I almost always go with my favorite carnitas Michoacan, named for their home region in southwestern Mexico, which I get with their excellent soft corn tortillas. These also make their tacos some of the best in town. The enchiladas and other dishes that I've seen all look to be very good, and when I can peel myself away from the pork, I get the lime/garlic/olive oil marinated shrimp dish, which is outstanding. The place isn't fancy, but it's not a dive either, and they've added a fantastic patio which is open all summer. It's a great neighborhood place that I'll drive across town to visit, and they're open all day every day. Winner. read more

we stopped in to grab some lunch and i was so pumped for tacos. the salsa was amazing, had a good amount of heat and a little smokiness. the chicken enchiladas were fantastic. the carnitas tacos were eh. it was like having pot roast on a corn tortilla -- and actually that's exactly what it looked like. very little taste and no seasoning. i'll go back, but i'll definitely focus on the front side of the menu and not order anything from the backside of the menu. read more

Cane here with my relatives who were visiting from out of town. This is definetly one of the better places for Mexican food in the Downtownish Denver area. I hail from Chicago, were Mexican resteraunts run a plenty, so I am very particular and have certain expectations for this cuisine. It's great for an Americanized palette and good for a more discerning one. read more

This is not Mexican food, the food seems to be lacking seasoning and imagination. Unfortunately the they are under staffed (especially with their huge expansion) and since they are understaffed they work extra hard which gives them less time to care about the customer. Prior to the expansion they did have the right staffing but an easy equation will show that if you double your tables you need to double your staff. They did not prepare for this. Enough about the expansion, the food is just alright. I would not spend anymore money here especially when there are so many other options around town. read more

Good solid lunch place. Yelp check-in gets you your choice of any of the daily specials at $7, regardless of what day it is. We both got the pork adovado plate. It comes with a good size portion of some of the most tender and delicious pork I have ever eaten! I mean, it was melt in your mouth. The chips and salsa were delicious and homemade. The tortillas that came with our meal were kind of disappointing though, would have preferred them homemade. The place totally has a friendly, family feel. I asked for salsa for my tacos and I was told all they had was La tapatia hot sauce What an insult! What's a taco without salsa?

"What do you feel like for dinner?" I asked. "Caldo!" he replied. And our spot for the best caldo in town (that's broth, loaded with big veggies and rice) is at Patzcuaros. We sit in the corner and are greeted with menus that we glance at even though we walked in knowing what we wanted to eat. Caldo for him and Albanil Tacos with avocado for me.
