Cigaragua was suggested by a knowledgeable local and reinforced by some reviews I found online. The place is on a main street and easy to find. It is spread out on three levels, with the retail space at ground level, the humidor up one and the lounge down one. The space was clean and inviting, with the lounge being large and well presented. The humidor was extensive, but with a specialization in Nicaraguan-grown smokes. The prices were very fair, especially considering the shop is in a very touristy area of Amsterdam. The employee manning the place was friendly and greeted me as soon as I walked in. He worked with me in the humidor to select a number of cigars that were right for my palate, but not familiar to me. While sitting in the lounge smoking one of my cigars, I enjoyed a glass of wine and a glass of port. It appears they serve a very basic selection of wine, beer, coffee and non-alcoholic drinks. If you are ever in Amsterdam and in need of a cigar and a place to smoke it, you can do no better than Cigaragua. Highly recommend.

My family and I toured this magnificent (single-owner!) collection and thoroughly enjoyed the walk through history it represented, all housed in a historical home. Ben was our guide, and his narration and answers to our questions brought the assortment to life. Funerary, wedding, ceremonial, personal pipes and accoutrements are arranged by era and provenance, from clay and briar and meerschaum to less standard materials, and even a display related to opium. The place is tidily packed into a second floor and took no more than about half an hour to review - but the rarity of the items, the uniqueness of a collection like this in one place, and the personal nature of the tour made it entirely worthwhile and memorable. I am a big fan of this store. I usually go to pick up a package, mail a package or go to the ATM…read more But they have books, magazines, cards, office supplies and games. It's a larger post office-type store (compared to others I have been to), it's bright with move to walk around. There are multiple registers and sometimes people form one line and sometime two...just depends on the day. The staff has always been friendly and now that I have encountered the same woman a few times, she recognizes me. She's happy to speak English to me, or Dutch if I prefer. Yes, some things are pricey, but it's not a discount store. It's just one of those neighborhood stores where people know people and they know how to be helpful. My advice for here is to always bring an ID (Dutch ID or a Passport) to pick up packages.
