More commonly known as Cactus One, I often do the trek past Cactus on my way to the public toilets, which are part of the arcade housing Cactus and a few other boutiques (as well as the only public toilets around for at least a kilometre in either direction. I often wonder how the weekend family crowd doing the Paddington shopping trudge actually make it through the day.)
It's heavily air-conditioned in the arcade, and any Brisbanite who's been trekking along Latrobe-cum-Given Terrace long enough will be glad for the respite from the heat. Walking along the hallways of the arcade, you can see into a few boutiques, including Cactus One.
There's usually a show-stopping dress or two featured in one of Cactus's windows, and you can tell just by looking at the quality of it that it'll be expensive. And it is.
This makes Cactus more suited to someone with either a lot of money to burn or anyone looking to buy an expensive dress for formal occasions for years to come. The quality of the material here is good, so the clothing looks and feels like it would have some good years in it.
Aside from the featured awesome dresses the clothing tends to be targeted at an older audience. Browsers in this store typically include a female parent with a teen, or an adult mother-and-daughter couple. There are a few items of formal older clothing (the vibe being Jacqui E crossed with Rockmans), such as airy and loose-fitting blouses. Such items tend to boast the more expensive tag of Jacqui E over Rockmans, unfortunately.
There's nothing particularly wrong with Cactus One - it's just not up my alley, especially in terms of price (even during sale periods). read more
