I started taking my Toyota RAV4 Limited Hybrid to Pauls Automotive over 4 years ago and have been pleased with the service over that time. Today I feel as though they let me down. I went in for my 30K mile check-up. The estimate seemed high when I looked it over hours later. I was accustomed to 4 years of trust with the business. I called and alerted Pauls that I felt the estimate was high and they reduced it by about 10%. I then contacted Meita Toyota and got an estimate for $400 less. Expensive diagnostic fees and additional labor costs and questionable expertise make this shop, at best, useful for simple jobs like brakes/suspension, etc. I had my jeep worked on by them to help diagnose a vague SRS issue and not only did I NOT get an answer, but I spent $400 for them to suggest various additional part replacements because they didn't know what the problem was even though they assured me they have all the diagnostic equipment available. Still not sure what my $400 bought, I could have just thrown parts at the vehicle myself. I will say their "free" vehicle inspection service was impressive - text with links to lots of photos that seem to be trying to 1) drum up more work from you and 2) cover their butt. Overall, they weren't especially nice, knowledgeable, didn't offer to pick me up/drop me off, were very tight lipped about the details and when I went back to check their work, found various loose bolts and unclipped fasteners. I'll never use them again and would advise others to be very cautious. read more

Honest, kind, and fast turnaround Last week after work, I got in my 2020 Ford Escape SE hybrid and it wouldn't start. Some of the electric functions still worked, but this is my first hybrid so I didn't have any idea where to start. AAA came out and told me the battery was no good, but as it was a rare battery the service tech didn't have one with him. At my request they towed me to the Ford dealership a mile down the road (I know, I know, but there were recalls on it I needed to check out anyway.) Ford wanted to charge me $1,350 FOR A DIAGNOSIS. I mean, I know dealerships can be a ripoff but this is next level. I was getting worried because my usual mechanic doesn't work on hybrids and I had no close friends or family who had had a hybrid serviced for a similar issue who could give me a recommendation. I found Paul's on Yelp, and I am so glad I called them. They were able to get my car looked at quickly, were super kind and straightforward, and the entire battery testing and replacement came out to less than half what Ford wanted to charge me just for a diagnosis. I knew when I got a hybrid I was signing up for potentially costly repairs, and I know a dead battery isn't exactly a repair, but should anything serious happen to my car I will absolutely trust the guys at Paul's to give me an honest assessment and fair charge for parts and labor. Based on my experience my mom is sending her Ford C Max in to them for a high mileage tuneup. Very happy with my experience here! read more

You know I took down my review from a year ago because I wanted to give this place another try, but once again I was disappointed. When they gave me my estimate on how much it will be I thought ok that's doable. So why is it when I get there, the price is 2x more than what was texted to me? Also I had to keep calling for updates. ALSO, when I dropped off my car with them, I had gas in my tank. Why are you giving me back a car literally on E? I was also disappointed to see dirt and mud on my seats. Like yes the job got done but the communication on pricing was messed up. Won't be going back. Maybe be honest with your pricing with new customers and not blind side someone the day of they have to pick up their car. Update: I'm dropping my review to a 1 start by the reply the owner gave. Yes I did give the ok to get the work done but the confirmed messages I was getting about the cost did not match what was finally done. And by your condescending remarks about it be August so there was no mud, doesn't excuse the fact that my seats were dirty. read more

My experience at Paul's Automotive went from good to bad to exceptional over the course of many months. In a world where customer service - especially at auto shops - has gone down the drain, Paul's Auto proved they really do care about the customer experience and raised the bar. I had originally decided on Paul's after shopping around for a place to do a major repair. I had a leak within my engine block that everyone from my dealership to other independent shops had told me could cost me as much as $6500. Paul's was prompt in their response and did it for closer to $4500, so I went with them. Initially, everything was great. Despite that big cost, they had my vehicle in and out in three days and I was seemingly okay. Then, just a couple weeks later, my engine lights came on and my car stopped. Something was still leaking. I came back to Paul's. Apparently, I had another leak, this time out of my transfer case, and they would have to take my whole engine out and take it apart. I was shocked. Didn't you just do that and why didn't you notice the leak? Why would I pay for labor to do the same thing you just did? On top of that, they said it would cost me another $1700. I expressed my disappointment and shortly after got a call from Mike, the owner. Some wires had gotten crossed and he apologized and said they could do it for a third of that price. Problem solved! I came back in and had another seamless repair. Two things I'd like to mention: 1) my heart goes out to the team down there as I know they lost a team member and have been struggling with some bad luck lately with some of the staff. 2) The exceptional service form Greg, who was always very personable and worked with me to make things right and make sure I was always updated. Customer service is everything, and these guys know that! I will definitely be loyal to Paul's now that I have gone through this experience with them, and I will recommend the to others! read more

Listen, I am only 26 years old, and although I have been taught to value and take care of my things, especially cars, I definitely don't have the mindset that an oil change should cost any more than $50. And to clarify, I still believe that, but now I have discovered that having a real auto shop that cares about service and outcome can actually mean so much more. I dropped my car off for a standard oil change package, based on the outstanding reviews on Yelp. I didn't have any idea what to expect because I've historically done the lower-cost oil changes with chains. Setting up an appointment was super easy and, for me, the location was great. I left my car for a few hours and when they finished, I received a notification that my car was ready as well as my inspection report. The inspection report gave a SUPER comprehensive look at everything on my vehicle from top to bottom, which usually I just get an "everything looks good" from anywhere else. Not with Paul's. Everything had pictures and notes regarding the quality of my vehicle. They called and recommended a few services that they could take care of before I picked up my car, nothing pushy, and I said yes and no to a few. When I picked up my car, I was somewhat shocked at the price and then realized that to get great service, and a quality job (not to mention support a local small business), this is not a terrible price to pay. Overall, I have had a great experience with Paul's and I am excited to have found a new auto shop. read more

Went to get my car smogged. They said it would be 500$ for them to change some sensors around. They upsold me on 500$ worth of others non essential work. Turns out they had no idea if their work would actually fix my check engine light. So I had 500$ worth of work done that doesn't help me get my car on the road and was unnecessary. And they needed 1200$ more to fix the check engine light. I'm desperate I don't know what's going on with my car and I sadly paid them 1200$ more to help me smog my car. Turns out that didn't fix it either! 2200$ and I can't get my car smogged, and they want another 2000$ to get my car smogged(to change my catalytic converters )They might do good for other people; but they had no problem upselling me on unnecessary things and leaving me stranded at the end of the day. It also took them over a month to not fix my car. I told them the situation and they had nothing to say. My advice if you have never been to Paul's automotive, don't go. Maybe if you have had a long working relationship with Paul's automotive they treat you like a customer and not just money bags. But for as of right Paul's automotive is the auto shop that has made me take public transportation this past year. TLDR: Paul's automotive is good at getting cash, not ur car running read more

On the final day of 2022, I gratefully salute Paul's Automotive Inc. On a recent Friday night, my Honda Accord LX broke down on a dark street in South Natomas. Before the car stopped, I managed to safely pull to the side. An hour later, a tow truck arrived. At my request, my car was towed nine miles to the parking lot of Paul's Automotive at 1922 O St., Sacramento. I had never done business with Paul's, but decided the time had come, partly because Paul's is only a few blocks from my home. Paul's was not open during the weekend, so I had to wait until early Monday to visit the shop. One of the employees, Mr. Manny, examined my car, marking the beginning of a remarkable experience. He and his colleagues took care of my Honda at an unbeatable price. They went out of their way to resolve my crisis. Next time I have a car problem, I'll know where to go: directly to Paul's. My air conditioner decided to go out on me out of nowhere, just as the weather started to warm up. I found Paul's on Yelp, and I am SO glad that I did! I was able to schedule an appointment with ease online, and was able to bring my car in the following day. Frank assisted me, and he was awesome! I received text updates, along with my vehicle health report (they use XOXOCar and Paul's provides you with your digital inspection report). I received a call shortly after, and was happy to hear that all though it is time for me to replace my tires (whoops!), my air conditioner was good-to-go. Frank said, and I quote, "Your air conditioner is blowing at 42 degrees. I hope that will be good enough"! HAH! Paul's provided me with a 'warm and fuzzy' feeling by providing fast, HONEST service at a good price point, with great customer service to match. I would not hesitate to bring my car back to Paul's for all future repairs. Note: I scheduled my appointment on Sunday night for a Monday afternoon appointment. The drop off was stress free.
