The pros: First off, we're going to miss the morning cook. What a humble great guy, and cook. Rooms were clean, had a fridge. Maid service was also great. Everyone needs to ignore the old reviews because this place has been 100% revamped and redone and it is AMAZING! It's not the Newport Blues inn anymore. It is so awesome to have a place we can bring our dogs for a getaway. They even bake special treats for the dogs! All the little "doggie" details, from the wallpaper to the towel holders, it's all adorable! We were in room 7 and our room has a Murphy bed for our dogs. What an awesome idea! I can't even say enough about this place! And the bathroom!!! When we first checked in and I went into the bathroom, I thought about sleeping in the shower, it's so gorgeous. We just vacationed here on 10/30/20 for a long weekend with our friends for an easy drive to Covid-cation from NY. The service was amazing and we could tell that they had taken every precaution to make sure the rooms were very well cleaned to make us feel safe. The inn is so adorable in all the dog details to make puppy owners know that this is the perfect place to bring their dogs. Allison, the inn keeper also made sure to have our pre-packed breakfasts ready for us in the morning. Every day's breakfast was a treat! We also LOVED the beds, comforters and pillows. We slept amazingly for 3 solid nights. We'd definitely visit again and HIGHLY recommend it to anyone with dogs, but you'll still love it even if you don't have pets with you! read more

ONLY EXCUSES, no results We recently(Sept 2018) stayed at Newport Blues Inn. We were instructed to check in at their sister property Black Duck Inn, aka Pelham Street Inn. When we got there we were in shock. Inside it was such a dirty, dated, dump with a foul odor. There we met Diane, the Innkeeper. She was faux friendly and messed up our room assignment and also issued the wrong parking pass. (parking is inconveniently offsite). Diane was also pretty much useless when issues arose. We could only pray that The Newport Blues Inn was not as bad as Black Duck Inn in appearance or smell. Well, The Newport Blues Inn is barely mediocre. No real charm as it's furnished with a cross between Furn-A-Kit furniture and Thrift store leftovers. It looks more like off-campus housing for your kid's college. The stairs leading upstairs were slanted like a Carnival Funhouse. There were so many dust bunnies under the bed and hairs(not ours) on the dingy bedspread. Peeling and chipped paint everywhere(my photos don't lie) from years of neglect, yet Diane will tell you, "We're renovating soon!" ( I doubt it ) There was no hot water(NONE) in the Barbie doll sized bathroom sink and very little hot water with virtually no water pressure whatsoever in the shower. From what I understand, it's an ongoing issue. When we asked Diane to switch our room she wouldn't and only made excuses. I told her it is not sanitary and a serious inconvenience, especially after visiting The Cliff Walk on this unseasonably warm day. Diane then says, "I credited you 10%." I asked that she give us the 'off season' rate or the weekday rate for the room if you are not going to fix the issue. She then blamed the corporate office. When you try to call the corporate office they're trained to convince you the paltry 10% refund is a good deal(it's NOT) and expect you to just go away. You will have NO recourse. Sure they're close to downtown... but EVERYTHING in Newport is close to downtown. read more

My wife and I stayed in the Brenton room at the Newport Blues Inn for three nights thanks to a Living Social deal. Check in was at the Blue Jewel down the street and although we arrived a little early our room was ready. The room was clean and nicely decorated, but bit smaller than I expected. Bathroom was tight, but worked out fine. The bed was comfortable, and the TV and air conditioning worked fine. WiFi was decent (our room was on the second floor). Breakfast was listed as 8:30am but it's really closer to 9am. Not a big deal but we had a 9:30 tour scheduled one morning and had to rush a bit. Also, the breakfast is more typical of a hotel free breakfast rather than a B&B breakfast. Baked goods are store bought, eggs appeared to be powdered, but there was freshly cut fruit. It was certainly well prepared, but nothing special. Coffee in the lobby wasn't there until 9am, would have been nice to have a pot there earlier. Perhaps added coffee makers to the rooms would address this as I really like coffee first thing in the morning. All in all a very nice stay and my criticisms are to point out some shortocmings and the reason for four stars rather than five. Definitely would stay again on a future visit. read more

We stayed at Paws on Pelham for about a week, the week of Labor Day. The inn is beautiful. It's in an amazing location to Thames St. Which we really appreciated when we found out parking near the area can be $20-30 a day. The decorations and the dog theme carries throughout the inn and it is so cute! My boyfriend was sold on our room for the wall built-in dog house, our dog Luna enjoyed it too. You can tell the staff really loves and cares about both the two legged and four legged guests. The carry out breakfast was very convenient to go or to sit around the inn on the porch or in your own room. Overall the owners we stayed with took care to make sure their dogs didn't cause a disturbance like barking when other dogs walked by their rooms, etc. which was something I was a little anxious about. Just some quirks about our stay-The internet doesn't seem to be high speed, which wouldn't necessarily bother you if you stayed a weekend, but we stayed a week so it would have made watching movies more enjoyable without buffering. Also I wish the rooms had mini fridges. I know some in the inn do but ours did not, so we could never take our leftovers home from the delicious restaurants we visited. And finally, you can't control the ac/heat room by room. The thermostats are in the hall. I wish these were under a locked cover. One night, it was set to 67 degrees and I was shivering, and one night I was pretty warm at 70-some degrees. I think the guests walking by may change to their own comfort level. read more

Wow! My husband, golden retriever and I stayed at the Paws on Pelham inn for a weekend getaway and we cannot say enough good things about our stay!! The place is an absolute GEM and a dog lover's paradise. Allison was wonderful, attentive and available for all of our needs. Everything from the cleanliness of the rooms to the attention to detail (the built in dog beds, dog bowls, etc), the grab and go breakfast on the rooftop overlooking the water, the list goes on! Stayed at this Inn for the night. Celebrated my husbands 60th birthday on the island. All I can say is WOW Great Inn!!! Complimentary brownies, hot coffee and tea await as you check into your room. The rooms are clean, bed and pillows are very comfy. One of the best nights sleep at an Inn!!! Excellent breakfast the following morning!! High five to the chief!! What an amazing stay! Allison made us feel immediately welcome as she showed us to our perfect room. It was well appointed, large and extremely clean. The bathroom was beautiful and had quality towels and bath products. The beds were so comfortable!! The delicious grab and go breakfast was perfect in the time of Covid and enjoyed it every morning on the roof deck overlooking the harbor. The property is so convenient as it is 3 blocks to the harbor and a half a block to a small park where we walked our dog every day. The entire staff was friendly and professional. I lived next door to the Blues Inn when it first opened in 2006. My parents came up once because of the location and have continued to return multiple times a year. The owners are wonderful. The building is clean, classy and in the heart of wonderful Newport, RI. It is worth the trip! read more

Newport Blues Inn has 3 properties (NBI, then also Blue Jewel & Black Duck). We stayed at Blue Jewel in July 2011 with one other couple. Rooms are spacious, gorgeously decorated, comfortable beds, quiet (only 3 rooms), beautiful bathrooms & linens, wine & cheese on Fri/Sat nights, great staff. 1 free parking space off the street per room, breakfast includes eggs, fruit, breads, yogurt, etc but is served at Newport Inn or Black Duck (only 5 doors down, no biggie). My fiance and I stayed here for two nights. The location is great, only about a block and a half from Thames Street (downtown Newport). The food and service were excellent. The room was very clean and comfortable. You also get free Wi-Fi. We will definitely stay here again! read more

We stayed here 4th of July Weekend. We were 2 adults and 2 children. We stayed in the Narraganset Room for the 2nd time which has a sitting room with a pull out sofa bed for my children and a queen,nice bathroom and a fridge. The room was very clean and we noticed some upgrades in the bathroom but we also noticed that the TV in the sitting room was gone from when we stayed here before. This was an issue for my kids. We also noticed no pillows for the pull out and only two towels and not enough toiletries for 4 people. We pay $50 extra for each additional person over 2 so we were disappointed in the missing amenities. We did call and were given extra towels and pillows for the boys. I just didn't think we should have needed to call since we had a reservation for 4. Since this is our 4th stay at this Inn we have always loved the breakfast. We like the fact that there is fresh fruit, bagels, English muffins, breads as well. Joyce was very nice but we were disappointed in the quantity of food that we received for the hot breakfast. Monday morning was scrambled eggs, bacon and has browns. I think we each maybe got 1 scrambled egg each. The food both mornings was not hot or even warm. Very disappointed. My children were hungry before 11 am. and that was even after having fruit, yogurt and a bagel before the hot breakfast came out. The proximity to all the restaurants and bars is unparalleled. It's the best when you can walk to everything! I will say that the baked goods in the lobby were awesome!! Chocolate chip cookies and brownies with chocolate chips. Yummy!! read more

There are other inns in Newport, RI that have to be better than this Inn for the price. Our bed was made with the sheets inside out, the thread count of the bath towels was slightly better than a budget hotel, the hangers were attached to the closet rod so that hanging anything but button down shirts and slacks was impossible, and the breakfast was mediocre. We own a rental property in Carmel, CA, so we understand the need for upscale amenities in a city like Newport, RI. This Inn unfortunately did not have them. read more

We made a reservation to stay at the Newport Blues Inn, however when we arrived we were pleasantly surprised when we were upgraded to a nicer room at their sister property (a bit closer to town) the Black Duck Inn. Not only was the innkeeper extremely friendly and knowledgable, but she was happy to accommodate our request for an early check-in. We stayed in the Sauvignon Blanc room, which was absolutely adorable. It had an amazing jacuzzi tub in the bedroom (which was very romantic), luxury linens and an upgraded bathroom. The room also included cable tv, free wifi and a parking space directly behind the inn. After a great nights rest, we enjoyed a delectable breakfast in the dining room. The breakfast chef was warm and charming and prepared us delicious blueberry pancakes and bacon while we sipped our morning coffee and picked at the spread of fruit, yogurt, pastries and fresh squeezed juices. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it if your heading to Newport! read more

My husband and I celebrated his birthday recently in Newport at the Newport Blues Inn. This is the fourth time we have stayed at one of the three inns over the past couple of years. Each experience has been great. We love the short walk to the shops and restaurants on Thames Street. The staff have been consistently gracious and very responsive. The extra touches, e.g homemade cookies in the afternoon, are especially nice. This has become our favorite getaway place in Newport! read more

From the initial booking contact, my experience with the Newport Blues Inn was not pleasant. Trying to book a weekend from a Living Social certificate, I was told that there was nothing available unless I wanted to pay more to upgrade, or take a lower quality room from what was on the certificate. The rudeness of the person I was talking to was astonishing for someone in the "hospitality" industry. The Inn had no WIFI, the room was tiny with the bed being 4' from the door, so noise and light were a major problem. The accomodations were spartan, and the Inn had just been repainted so the smell of paint fumes was migraine inducing. We had noise all night long until 3 AM, and when I mentioned the next day that I was a bit tired, I was chastised for not using my cell phone to call the inn keeper (as there are no phones in the room either). She then proceeded to tell me that no one on the third floor would have made noise- insinuating that maybe I was making it up?? And we should have called the police about the noise outside our window from people next door. Seriously, it was such an unpleasant experience from start to finish. The one plus was the breakfast was very nice. The room and the attitude need major re-working before I would ever consider recommending this Inn. read more
