It was good, but I'd say it wasn't crazy strong. My wife got the Miami Vice Negroni and we both thought it was meh. Being as you're in Montmartre, there are plenty of bars to visit. I'd definitely make Dirty Dick a spot to visit if you're doing a crawl.

I ordered the painkiller my first time around and it was perfection! The atmosphere of tiki music, Caribbean-inspired artwork and leis and tiki shields adorning the walls transported me to a beach in the Bahamas for a few minutes. We knew we had to come back our last night and did so! I ordered the Miami Vice Negroni and it was a complex drink. I still can't determine if I liked it or didn't. I got different sweet and bitter notes each sip. My husband got the extra grog strength drink and it was a hit! Do yourself a favor and come here! You won't regret the slight deviation from wine and champagne and enjoy the reprieve!

Seriously one of the best clubs I've been to, especially for its size…read more I went on a Monday night and had a great experience in almost every way. (1) The prices are unbelievable (or were in Monday night): no cover charge, 1€ bag check, 6€ for what I think was an entire liter of beer, 3€ shots. Even in Spain that would be a bargain, let alone the middle of Paris. (2) The hours served me really well. I'm always happy to find a club open on weekday evenings. Things were already moving at about 10:00 (very early by European standards). (3) The people were partying! When I arrived there were only about a dozen, but the dancing was very on. Some other clubs seem to wait until the room is packed and the people are drunk, but these people were at it from the beginning. It was almost entirely guys and girls in their early 20s, possibly a couple more guys than girls at the time, but not a huge disparity and possibly a fluke. (4) The music wasn't great but it did the trick. Bunch of over-popular US songs (mostly rock and some hip-hop) mixed with some French numbers. No real DJ work going on but hey, it was party music and it had the people moving. All in all, this is a gem. It's almost certainly a local spot mostly unknown to tourists, which is why it's so subtle, so underpriced, and so concentrated with local energy.

So the little red door has a cute red door but the bouncer lets you in through another door (novelty observed haha). The man takes your jacket and umbrella (what a gentleman!) and sat us on the second floor. While the space between the couch and the seats were rather small, we were able to manage. I got the permaculture and resilience. The resilience is a club favorite and my favorite too! The way the sorghum, pineapple sage (syrup), pasquet cognac, and savanna rum all tied together was a blessing. I was going to get a third but I was tipsy by my second drink. My first drink was the permaculture and while I was considered it would be strong, it didn't seem strong to me. I love clarified dairy in alcohol so this was a win in my book. It consists of chestnut, butter, wakaze umeshu, avallen Calvados. The bar let's you stay for an hour but if you sit elsewhere, you can stay as long as you want. 5 stars and I hope to come back someday!

Especially when I heard about it through a friend of a friend…read morewho was actually flown to Paris to spend 3 months helping David Lynch himself design and execute the space before it opened. So, of course, we simply HAD to go check it out on our trip to Paris. Anything David Lynch is part of, I want to see/experience. However, it did not deliver. Sure it was dark (it's a crazy 4-6 stories below ground), but it is mysterious & chic? Well, given that those with a membership can enter from 6p-11p and enjoy it privately and the public can enter after 11p and the public that lines up beginning at 11p kinda ruins the whole vibe, the answer would be a hard no. We arrived and on one side was a line for the dreaded "bottle service" - those willing to pay hundreds and thousands of €, to sit inside a velvet roped area inside the club, Gross. Strike one. We got into the line on the other side, where the bouncers were acting like it was a cross between Studio 54 and an exclusive rap club. They were hassling locals, making them sweat to get in. Then, when it's our turn, they immediately recognize that we're non-locals and speak English to us. They were actually cordial, but said "Good evening sir - - €25 each!" Ugh, strike two. After descending into the cavernous space, which is actually pretty cool, you quickly realize it very small and the seating is all bottle service/"VIP". Then you also realize the crowd is not the hip, creative cognoscenti of Paris, but rather the Parisian version of frat boys and sorority girls, that have zero interest in art, culture and likely have zero idea who David Lynch is. Strike three. Am I glad I went to see it, sure, but I think we stayed 45 mins tops. Ugh.

We like Aux Trois Mailletz - but lets get some basics out of the way…read more 1) You are in the heart of the tourist district. Aux Trois Mailletz is in the Latin Quarter right across the river from Notre Dame. The only way to have more tourists around you is to go to the Eiffel Tower or to stand in front of the Mona Lisa. 2) French Urban planners have done the maximum to make this district look like the Paris tourists want Paris to be. Parisian urban planners have long been expert in impression management. See for example the Hotel de Ville which was intentionally built in a style 100 years older than when the building was constructed - so it would look "Traditional and Ancient" from the minute the building opened. * * * None of the above means Aux Trois Mailletz is bad. We drank here rather than ate here ... So I have no idea if the food is marvelous or terrible. A lot of Yelpers love the kitchen here. But I DO know two definite things. 1) The cafe is just opposite from Saint Julien le Pauvre. Saint Julien le Pauvre is an old and intimate church. It looks adorable. Significantly, it has some of the best acoustics you could ask for ... Which makes it a primo location for classical music concerts. If you are anywhere near Aux Trois Mailletz, Go across the street or get on your phone and see if they have concert tickets for your night. If they do, it will be well well worth it. 2) Aux Trois Mailletz is a piano bar above and beyond being a French cafe. The pianist puts a ton of classical music into the mix. Chopin figures heavily in his play list. Getting drunk on Armagnac, while listening to Chopin, and eating French snacks? What's not to like? * * * If you want to join the fashion police, You can comment on the 300,000 million tourists going by the cafe. Making witty comments about the passers by is one of the best games in town. Doing so while drunk is thirty times better. The street will give you unlimited amounts of first rate material for your finest jabs and snark. * * * So whether you a) eat, b) drink, c) listen to music in the cafe, d) listen to music in the church across the street, or e) show your moral superiority to everyone within one mile of where you are sitting ... A fine time can be had at Aux Trois Mailletz. Life is too short not to have fun.
