This trip will probably go down in history as the greatest trip for peace ever taken by a sitting President. But KSL failed not mention it. This news station used to be good...... not great, but good. I especially liked the 9pm one hour…read morenews. I was excited when Scripts bought the station from the previous owners who have a bad reputation in the industry. Unfortunately, the station has gotten worse not better. They have lost many of the better anchors and reporters, the news story count is dramatically down, their video is embarrassing, and the writing has deteriorated to grade school level. An example is the degrading in quality of meteorologists and their weather forecasts. The information is useless, the graphics are pedestrian, and the reports are an example of filling in the blanks. I've compared them to the other stations and find that the competition has more stories and information in a shorter 30-minute newscast. You'd think that Fox13 having a one-hour time program would have more news. But sadly, this isn't the case. I can see why KUTV has taken away the #1 news from Fox13. Sad.

I didn't really appreciate how great KUER was until I moved to another city. I live in SF now and my local NPR station is probably funded 10 times as well as KUER, but I honestly think KUER does a much better job with local reporting and bringing a compelling local angle to the programming. During the 10 years I lived in Utah the voices of Jenny Brundin, Tasha Cook, Michael Havey and others felt like like family during my daily commute. KUER does a fantastic job in a difficult market, and it's obvious they are passionate about bringing quality news and discussion to Utah. And don't even get me started on Doug Fabrizio and RadioWest. He's one of the best interviewers in the business, and I'm constantly wondering why he hasn't moved on to a national show yet. I still listen to the RadioWest podcast even though much of the local material shouldn't be that interesting to me anymore. The only thing I don't love about KUER is the jazz at night, but that's just a personal preference (plus it gave me a chance to listen to some KRCL). Overall I'd trade the fancy-pants big city KQED here in San Francisco for KUER any day of the week.
