First and foremost I have to give the manager big props. We first arrived and the attendant told us they were closing and they weren't going to be able to serve us. Definitely not your fancy Chinese restaurant but it's not your hole in the wall either. The food lives up to expectation especially after we saw it featured on Guy F's Foodnetwork show. The rolled beef roll is a must try as well as the hand pulled dan dan noodle. Both were very well done. The sauce in the rolled beef was just right and the beef was flavorful and tender wrapped in a crispy handmade dough. The hand pulled noodle has a nice chewy texture that is mixed in a peanut based sauce. We also ordered cumin lamb which was also very tender and tasty. The XiaoLonBao (pork dumpling) is probably the least favorite for us. The pan fried green onion cake is authentic but not the style I like since it's slightly thicker dough. My friend and I found this restaurant while walking around the downtown area of Vancouver and we were both hungry and craving asian food. We came on a weekday for lunch and there weren't any lines and we were immediately seated. We decided on a knife cut dan dan noodle, from recommendations on Yelp, and the pan fried pork buns. The dan dan noodle sauce was very flavorful, and I loved the ground meat in the peanut sauce that really brought the savory flavor of the dish together. I also really enjoyed the creamy peanut-sesame sauce that drowned the thick, chewy noodles. The pan fried buns, however, weren't anything too special. The meat lacked flavor and the breading was nothing special at all. Also, there was more bread than meat ratio, which really detracted from the taste of the buns. Overall, I would highly recommend getting the noodle dishes here. I saw other tables order the beef noodle soup and it looked very good, with big chunks of meat. After watching triple D and seeing Peaceful Restaurant featured, I couldn't wait to head out to Vancouver to try the place. I love hand pulled noodles. Unfortunately, great tasting hand pulled noodles are hard to come by from what I've found in the US. We came later in the evening and didn't get to actually see them hand pull the noodles. The kitchen is in open view and you could see them putting together your food. The restaurant isn't fancy. The service isn't top notch. Regardless, it is definitely worth coming here if you're in the area. We ordered the peaceful house stir fried noodles. ABSOLUTELY delicious. These were the best hand pulled noodles I have ever had. The spices and flavors were on point...ridiculous. For a veggie dish, we ordered the sichuan string beans. I like how the pork in the dish wasn't ground. There were actual chunks. Very well seasoned also. For our last plate, we ordered the peaceful beef roll. This was the only thing that was disappointing. Soup was flavourful and only had a few pickled cabbages in it. I can only taste little bit of pickles. Beef was tender and yummy. And the pieces were huge. The noodle wasn't good. Great option for food especially on a chilly night. One of the 3 chained restaurants in Vancouver. This location was featured in Guy Ferrari's Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives on Food Network. This location is in downtown, so there are plenty of metered parkings everywhere. We came for dinner, so we found a $5 parking lot 3 blocks away or else it was going to be $3/hr. The rates changes depending on time. It's nice that they have online credit card option to pay and add additional time. FOOD: the 6 of us did family style and ordered different dishes so we can maximize our taste buds experience. I don't think you can go wrong with any options that you think you will like. But I recommend the beef rolls for appetizers, A-choy for veggies, lamb noodle soup with thick cut noodles. All the dishes we got were delicious! Always the best Chinese food in the city ! There are several locations but we love the 4th Avenue at Balsam. The staff are caring and are handling COVID regulations as one would want . The ginger beef , beef roll are a must but there are many great choices like the northern dumplings and hot and sour soup ! Weekdays they have a great lunch specials that are so perfect to share and for just 1$ you can upgrade to the house made noodles. They are doing lots of take out too! The food here is simple and delicious comfort food. I got the General Tsao's chicken and the beef rolls, and both were nicely prepared and seasoned (the sauces on both were pretty sweet, witch I enjoyed) and came in hearty portion sizes. They don't serve unnecessary rice with the main dishes like some places do - you can order that extra, but I didn't, and was more than happy with the big pile of tasty chicken and broccoli. I have zero complaints, and I'll definitely want to stop by this or another Peaceful location for more. The interior is nice too - not huge, but we got in early so space wasn't an issue. This place is SO GOOD. We stopped here to satisfy my craving for Chinese food and I'm so glad we did. If you like Spicy food, definitely get the Sichuan broiled braised fish. The beef roll is perfectly crispy and sweet. The Sichuan crispy chicken and string beans were better than expected too, but not spicy. The blade cut Dan Dan noodles were really authentic, nicely chewy but also soft. The only thing that was just ok was the minced Lamb fried rice. It was good but I could've just had normal white rice. They don't have parking but we managed to snag a spot right outside the restaurant. Service was really quick and attentive too; we were in and out in about an hour. There was no wait when we arrived slightly before 7 on a Sunday, but it got busier around 730. For 3 people, it cost about $26 pp with tax and tip, which I thought was a really good price for all the food we got! read more

Great spot for lunch! On the back of the menu, they have a lunch special menu and the food costs $10.00. Lunch is usually pretty busy, so you may have to wait for a bit to get a seat. Though I find their downtown location a lot more busier. I recommend their beef rolls. Crispy flat bread packed with beef. It's delicious! Probably one of the best beef rolls I've had. I also like their dan-dan noodles. I like how you can request mild if you do not want it to be too spicy. Their noodles are hand-dragged. This is my first time visiting this restaurant. I must say their 担担面 （Dan Dan Noodle) is yummmm.... This place has gone downhill since the glory days. Prices have gone up, service has gone way down. The servers don't care about the customers. I was never brought a water or tea and had to wave many times to get a refill. It was not busy the last few times I came and it takes a while for them to acknowledge you. They are "busy" doing other things like refilling napkins, wiping spoons, etc instead of checking on customers. When I order the noodles they don't ask what kind of noodles I want I had to walk up to them after to tell them I wanted thick noodles incase they assumed I wanted thin? They have forgot to bring dipping sauce both times I ordered dumplings. Food was ok, Dan Dan noodles were solid, best dish was the beef roll it was nice and flakey although most restaurants I go to price these around $6-$8 they have it for $10. The pan fried dumplings had very little meat inside, half the bun was hollow and for $10 it's quite pricey. Beef noodles is forgettable, very average there are many places that have better beef noodles. The chilli noodles here are frequently inconsistent either too oily, not spicy or too sour. Maybe 1 out of 4 times it would be good. I used to come here all the time but find myself eating here less and less. read more

A popular chain for Chinese food in Vancouver according to some online reviews. We were craving some noodles and dumplings so decided to give it a shot. This location was showcased on the Food Network's Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives as proudly displayed outside their storefront. We arrived around 5:30PM and the place was practically empty. The actual dining area is small and narrow. Expect to be seated almost elbow to elbow to the next table when things get busy. For dinner, we ordered some xiao long bao, a noodle soup, a beef roll and a spicy stir fry noodle. The soup dumplings were full of soup but unfortunately kept breaking open because they stuck to the bottom of the steamer. The beef roll came recommended, and while very flavourful with a crispy crepe, there was too much hoisin sauce that overpowered the rest of the flavours. The noodle soup was decent but nothing memorable to say about it. The best part of the meal was definitely the stir fried noodles. Full of flavour and good amount of spice. The menu is fairly extensive so I'll probably give some other items a shot in the future. read more

My family and I have pretty high standards when it comes to Chinese food. I mean... we're Chinese and have a pretty good sense of what Chinese food should and shouldn't be. That said, most Chinese restaurants we go to disappoint us and I'm pretty skeptical about going to Chinese restaurants in general. I've found that only a few Chinese establishments really amaze us. Peaceful is one of those restaurants that really impressed us. In fact, I think it's the best authentic place outside Asia that comes to mind. This small establishment had us seated right away and had the usual ice water and hot tea ready for us. We ordered 4 things in total. The XiaoLongBao Steamed Buns (XiaoLongBao), the Sichuan Beef Soup Noodles (HongShaoNiuRouMian), the Steamed Soft Pork Buns (GouBuLiBao), and the Peaceful Beef Rolls (NiuRouJuanBing). Our food came pretty quickly with good portion sizes. XiaoLongBao - Absolutely amazing. Came piping hot with juice bursting out of the shell once bitten. Dough not too thin, not to thick. Filling perfectly sized relative to the shell. Spectacular flavor. Picture perfect buns here. Sichuan Beef Noodle Soup - I've had this dish many times at various restaurants. I've found that mediocre restaurants mess this dish up in two ways: either the meat is really dry or the soup (and therefore noodles and entire dish) is too bland or too salty. Peaceful nailed this dish. I thought the meat would be dry, but it absorbed the savory broth to my delight. Broth was perfectly seasoned and tasted wonderful. Greens, sprouts, garlic nicely complementing the meat and noodles. Overall really really good. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a good authentic dish. If I had to give any critique, it would be to add an option to make it spicier for spice lovers out there. Steam Soft Pork Buns - We eat this type of bun for breakfast everyday when we are in China. Peaceful's Pork Buns tasted exactly the same as the ones we get in China. It's nothing out of the ordinary for my family since we've had it so many times...but that said, it really impressed us because of it's authenticity. I'm going to refrain from giving it a verdict regarding taste because of the above reasons. But what I will say is that if you do get this dish, know that you are getting a true taste of China. Beef Rolls - Alright. This dish had a lot going for it. The pastry and meat were not dry (which is usually the biggest problem with this type of dish) and had really great texture. The pastry was really well done and not too greasy (another big aspect of this type of dish). All of that made the dish great. But there was one problem for me....the hoisin sauce was too sweet for me. It overpowered a lot of the other components which made this dish an overall miss for me. I see a lot of other reviews praising this dish and I can see how it could be an amazing dish to some. But not for me. It was too sweet. Biggest miss for me, but if you like hoisin sauce/sweet flavors this dish is for you. Originally, I wanted to give Peaceful a 4. The 1 star docked because of the beef rolls being too sweet for my taste. But thinking about the restaurant as a whole, the things they did well, they did really well. Those small things they did right truly make Peaceful an exceptional place which let's me overlook the hoisin sauce and confidently give this place 5 stars. That was something we all liked as a working class. Due to covid it was taken away. Other restaurants in tbe area have way better lunch offerings. Delish. Long bao dim sum filled with meat and broth Popping I'm your mouth on to Dan Dan noodles w/ ground pork and peanuts, mu shu pork noodles packed with egg and veggies. All as expected and wonderful. The surprise was the Sweet n Sour chicken. Beautiful pieces of perfectly battered fried chicken pieces enrobed in a delicious sweet and sour sauce with fresh pineapple, onion and red and green peppers. I'd give the chicken a 10 out of 10. Best I've ever had in the world. Not a soggy usual. Also try the steamed rice. Again a surprise of red rice w/ barley. It was as beautiful as delicious. Used to go here often for lunch since it is close to my work, but this location has really gone down hill since the restaurant's rapid expansion. The flavours have gone way off from what they had been, and the staffs appear to have been less trained, likely due to their frequent turnovers. Here is for the folks out there who know how things should be and taste like: do not order their Shan Xi cold noodle. The authentic Shan Xi cold noodle requires hours of preparation, but what they serve here is basically regular blade-sheared noodle that has been overcooked, soaked vigorously in cold water (fragmenting the pieces) and tossed with overwhelming amount of vinegar. This is probably the first time in my life that I can't finish a paid meal. read more

The one we went to is their original location. I was super excited to try because of their highly raved award-winning beef rolls and hand-dragged noodles. OVERALL 4/5 - Service: 3.5/5 - Food: 4/5 - Recommend: Peaceful Beef Rolls and Mu-Shu Stir Fried Noodles - Price: $$ Their portions are not very big. I would advise to pick from their recommendations. Both the beef rolls and Mu-Shu stir fried noodles were recommended and were delicious! I found it weird that the appetizers came out when we were almost done our noodles, even though I did not mind because I was so hungry and was glad the noodles came out fast! I love the food here but I had to come back and change my five star review to 3 stars. I don't know what happened but the food is not as tasty as it used to be, and neither is the service. Ever since the restaurant reopened during stage three of the pandemic, they have been serving everything on styrofoam disposable plates. You even have to use plastic cutlery. They say it's for safety purposes but that doesn't make sense to me. What is the difference between a regular plate and single use plate? One is not dirtier than the other. Plus why is this restaurant still using styrofoam which was banned in January 2020!? Absolutely wasteful and disappointing that they don't give a crap about the environment On two different occasions I saw the server with a mask and gloves on, but she never changed her gloves. She handled money and take out orders, texted, and answered the phone and then used same dirty gloves to prepare settings for the tables. Gross! At least if she didn't have gloves on she would possibly wash her hands. Also, the music comes from a crappy, staticky radio in the kitchen. Visited again. Still really like that cumin beef in sesame flat bread. I tried the beef rolls that come highly recommended, but found them overly greasy and with too much hoisin sauce. I'll stick to the cumin beef in sesame flat bread for my starchy meaty dish there! The shanxi noodles were quite good as well. They stir fry a spicy version of pork with little cubes of potato, garlic chives, and a bit of vinegar to round out the flavour and place it onto a bowl of spicy soup with their excellent hand-pulled noodles. Delicious! I have had this dish several times, and have been happy every time except once - when for some reason they cut the spice and vinegar to a non-noticable level, added a bit too much corn starch, and it was a bit bland (I thought I had come to a different restaurant that was catering primarily to Canadian tastes that day!). But every other time it has been delicious! I agree that the XLB are not their strength here. On the dumplings I'm still sticking with my favourite lamb dumplings. These have a homemade feel to the wrapping, and the lamb has a slight hint of cumin inside. I love lamb, and this dish really highlights the flavours. But don't order it if you don't like the flavour of lamb - this dish would not be for you! read more

Having listened to so many stories of how amazing everything is at Peaceful Restaurant, I was let down. Maybe I set my hopes too high? The beef roll was good. It would have been great if there wasn't a pool of oil for it to soak in. The beef and tomato rice seemed to have chicken instead? Or that was the most anemic beef I have seen. Lastly, the ginger beef was alright, but it didn't have much of a ginger kick to it and definitely didn't need a spicy warning on the menu. We stopped by Peaceful, a stone's throw from Broadway-City Hall station, for some Mandarin style Chinese food. A bunch of us randomly decided to head to this Chinese eatery for some fine food. The thick noodles (top) were quite delicious. Hand-made in front of the dining area, the consistency and smooth taste were very filling and a treat to eat. I definitely recommend it. After some late arrivals, we got to eating. My standard dish from any restaurant, the spicy ginger beef (top), was pretty good, crispy, and great for snacking. Both the beef rolls and XLBs (xiaolongbao) were quite delicious and tasty. The rolls were crispy ourtside and tender inside. We had a double portion of XLBs. They were quite hot and hit the spot with their piping hot soupy, meaty taste. The lettuce and meat wraps were fairly standard but still did the trick nicely. It's another favourite, standard dish. We also had some "cat ear" soup which was hot, fresh, and frothy. I enjoyed it. The whole meal was rather satisfying and it got very busy by the end of our meal. There's not much to say. I'm so glad we got to try Peaceful during our stay in Vancouver. We lucked out and were able to get a table for 4 on the Monday of a 3-day weekend (Family Day), which also happened to fall on Chinese New Year. Where I'm from (SF Bay Area), this would not have been at all possible. We called in advance to make sure they were taking patrons and waited about a minute to be seated. We ordered the beef rolls, XLB soup dumplings, Peaceful house noodles, ma po tofu, steamed pork buns, and a medium order of rice. For the 4 of us, this was actually more than enough. By the end of the meal, we had quite a bit of tofu and a few pork buns left. The beef rolls were great - crispy, savory, slightly sweet, and yummy! The soup dumplings were perfect, and the house noodles were surprisingly good. The rice was actually purple rice, which was a pleasant surprise. Do note that they are CASH or (Canadian) DEBIT ONLY. We were hesitant to sit down at first when we found out this was the case. It wasn't until I put down my Bank of America card after our meal that we were told only Canadian debits were accepted. Luckily, there's a bank right next door. Even with the tip and bank withdrawal fee, we paid close to nothing for a more than satisfying last meal in Van City. read more

Helloooo fellow yelpers! :) This review is gonna be not so quick and sweet. It's been years since I've been here, but just dined in this past weekend. We were greeted immediately and led to our table in the back, which was great! Because of covid, they decided to serve everything in takeout boxes with small disposable plates and utensils. I've definitely taken stars off for this reason. Although I understand the rough time we're in, the waste being created by this single restaurant is probably a pretty disgusting amount :( Ordered the classic beef rolls, spicy salted tofu, xiao long bao, braised beef noodles in soup and Dan Dan noodles. Everything was pretty decent, but the salted tofu was as bland as styrofoam - I mean, comparatively the texture was a lot better, but still. Bill came and was super pricey, definitely not bang for your buck. The worst part of this review is how I felt AFTER.... I have probably used the bathroom 15 times since eating here..... now I do dookie quite a lot already, but my boyfriend is also frequently releasing his innards.....Definitely was them dang Dan Dan noodles. This restaurant was featured in Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives, and up to that show's reputation for featuring good food - which in my opinion is usually just fat and gross, this place was not good. The one exception to the rule for this restaurant is that the Beef Rolls were pretty good, slices of beef rolled in chinese flat bread with a stick of green onion and a dash of hoisin sauce. If you know this, this is one way how duck is served in Chinese restaurants. THe one where you get the piece of duck, a sprig of green onion, spread some hoisin sauce on that wrap, then eat. Although this was to my opinion the best dish, there was still a little too much hoisin sauce, so it was a bit on the sweet side. I also got an order of the Dan Dan Noodles, a dish that I generally crave. Here it was gross. There was just way TOO MUCH peanut sauce, not enough spice, and it was incredibly greasy and actually dried out my mouth and throat? The beef was minced on top but I had a bit of trouble fishing it out of the peanut sauce once everything was mixed. The restaurant was fairly busy, we arrived around 2pm, got seated quickly. Is this restaurant worth a trip? I would say No. As a Vancouver native who grew up with Chinese food as her staple, there are way better restaurants in town. As for service? I thought it was pretty standard for chinese restaurants, don't expect them to serve you hand and foot. People go to chinese restaurants for the food, not the service. read more

Peaceful Restaurant - Dan dan noodles - Chinese Near Me - Vancouver, British Columbia

Guy Fieri is obviously a bit of a doofus, but I have to concede that he has grown on me over the years because he is actually quite skilled at what he does. And most of the restaurants he visits look like places I'd actually like to eat at. Still, though: That he appears on the homepage of Peaceful's website, and that a huge number of reviews here mention that clown prince of road food, gave me serious pause about darkening Peaceful's door. Almost every last place that has been sanctified by Guy Fieri's magical presence seems to get overcrowded and overrated soon after he peels off in his redneck ride. We went to Peaceful anyway because we felt compelled to get another xiao long bao fix before leaving Vancouver the next morning, and, as far as we knew, this was the closest place to get it done. Peaceful, a cramped, noisy little shotgun shack of a restaurant, was stuffed to the gills with diners at 6:15 on a Friday evening, and the servers were already harried and rather curt. In short, Peaceful is not very peaceful. My experience with XLB is extraordinarily limited: I've had them twice, on consecutive days, at Peaceful and at Long's Noodle House. But Long's were the clear winner between these two places. Peaceful's were smaller and not quite as well constructed; a couple broke open before I could even get them to my mouth. And they didn't have the complexity and depth of flavor of the soup dumplings at Long's. But they were still pretty terrific! We also shared some noodles, and at this late date, I've already forgotten what exactly they were, but I do recall that they were fragrant, spicy, and very good. The lack of creature comforts is a pretty serious drawback at Peaceful. 3.5 stars, rounded up. read more
