I love this place. Tania teaches 1-on-1 reformer classes in her sweet and calm central London Pilates studio right beside Paddington station. She is a great teacher, so knowledgeable, energetic and focused, not to mention being an incredibly toned walking advert for Reformer Pilates!
I am enjoying this form of exercise more than anything I've done before. It isn't cheap, but it does feel like really good value as one of these sessions does me more good than several of my lazy gym sessions used to. You can really progress fast and learn a LOT with such one on one attention, and I always feel like Tania is able to educate me, & work around any pains I might have.
I can work as easy or hard as I want to during each session, if I'm up for it she will really push me, but I always feel safe and never at risk of injury (unlike my experiences in some yoga classes...) as the moves are so controlled and Tania is such an attentive teacher who seems to have x-ray vision when it comes to correct form!
I have some hypermobility issues and often used to hurt my lower back in yoga from bending further than was good for me, but with Tania I am strengthening muscles to protect those vulnerable areas and act as a kind of muscle corset to help keep me in the right alignment.
I choose to work on toning and strengthening certain stubborn areas of my body in each session; my beginners bingo wings, that little podge below the belly button, the rather larger podge below my hips, etc and I love how specific it is. I love to feel the muscle ache the next day in exactly the area I was working on.
I am also now getting my heart rate up during sessions on the Cardio-tramp which is a mini trampoline attached to the bottom of the Reformer machine. You might think trampolining whilst lying down would be easy peasy, let me tell you, you'd be WRONG!
I love how hard it can feel, as I really know it's working, and am already seeing a visible difference in my stomach and thighs. I am also noticing my posture is improving as my muscles are being educated about correct positioning. I'm sitting better in my desk chair with Pilates belly muscles engaged to support my back, and shoulders lowered which reduces neck tension as well as making people (who have known me for ages) suddenly comment on how long my neck is!
I really recommend you try it if you are thinking about it, as you'll soon see what a difference it can make to support you in your personal goals. I am feeling so much more motivated and energetic and find that I am walking more and generally feeling less lazy as I am enjoying seeing results! I have also sent my husband to see Tania as he used to do loads of yoga, but he can't anymore due to a back and shoulder injury. Pilates is great for helping to recover and to work around those sorts of problems. read more
