I recently went to a very well known (chain) of garages to get my brakes checked as they were "screeching". I was quoted over £400 for what I was told were dangerous brakes and needed replacing urgently!! I was reluctant to fork out so much money and wanted a "second opinion" so I decided to try Astley Garage as my friend had had her MOT done there and said the staff were extremely helpful and didn't try to "rip her off". I called to Astley Garage on the off chance and they gave me a courtesy car whilst they looked at my brakes! A short while later I received a phone call from the garage to say the cost would be less than half of what the previous garage had quoted!! They fixed my car straight away while I kept the courtesy car - saving me quite a bit of money and an added bonus to have a car to use whilst mine was off the road. Would definitely recommend this garage and have arranged for them to do my service later this month. 5 stars. Thank you.

had the worst experience of my life with this garage, bought a car for £750 from them on the 31st…read moreof january 11.00am, by 14.30pm the car had broken down due to some battery problem, the car was dead. thankfully some young women stopped and had some jump leads and offered to help, sadly the car was having none of it. i was 10 miles plus away from home and the garage, and was with my girlfriend and 18 month old son. i rang the garage and told them what happened, and they adopted the " i don't care attitude" all they were bothered about was they managed to sell the car. i hung up and tried to get the car started again with no luck, i rang the garage back half an hour later to see if there was any way they could come and fix the car, at this point they said they had a brand new battery i could have but they would not bring it too me, so i had to either get the car to them to fit it, or collect the battery and take it back to the car and try and fit it myself! now like i say i was with my girlfriend and 18 month old son, this isnt what i want to hear, the young women that stopped to help gave me and my family alift home (thanks, unknown young women) and me and my dad, who had just finished work then went to the garage to pick up the battery from the garage, they gave me the new battery and disgruntly agreed to send the young mechanic back up with me to fit it (why couldt they have sent him in the first place) the battery was fitted and i drove it home and it was fine, i then went to drive it about an hour later and it was dead again, so i rang the garage and told them what had happened, they said it must be something more serious and they would take a look at it. later that night i got a call from the owner of the garage on a withheld number shouting the odds and using foul and abusive language to me saying if he was there when i initially rung he would of told me to F off! he finally agreed to give me my money back if i was able to get the car back to the garage in the morning, thankfully the next morning the car decided to start, i got the most frosty reception at the garage, but lookly got my money back. i would never recommend this garage in a million years, they are the biggest cowboys in the world, maybe the universe

My experience with this branch of Kwik Fit was not a positive one…read more After hearing a rattle and excessive noise from the exhaust on my Toyota Prius, I checked in for a free exhaust check using Kwik Fit online. This was quick and simple. When I arrived for my appointment, I could immediately tell that I was going to experience some frustration. The man on reception said he was surprised to get my booking as they couldn't do Exhaust repairs. He offered to do an exhaust check anyway. They then struggled to start my car in the garage because it is a Hybrid and the engine doesn't tick over like traditional cars. I showed them how to get the engine running, but the damage was done - they informed me the car was a Hybrid and so they weren't allowed to work on it. Sigh. When I asked for advice on a local Garage that might be able to help, I was told that garages don't work on Hybrid cars. Double sigh. The only upside to this process was that the online booking system worked well and I wasn't charged for the exhaust check. Hybrid cars like my Toyota Prius aren't magic. My local garage in Birmingham works on them without issue. Sadly, for the staff at this branch of Kwik Fit, I felt that the car being a Hybrid was the perfect excuse for them to shrug off the work.

Now a regular customer, they have never tried to stitch me up like the major tyre chains, and they take the time to discuss your needs and budgets for tyres. My Mitsubishi has an unusual tyre size and the chains wanted £170+ per tyre with no options. Darcy's were able to supply me at £100 per tyre, and they currently do MOT's for £30. Can't rate these folks highly enough........... give them a call!

The garage moved from being a back street garage to a quite large main stream garage which employs about 5 staff. The staff in my view are not very friendly and do not explain things in simple terms and always try to talk very technical to you to try and confuse you into getting whatever work they want carried out. There quotes are on the expensive side compared to many garages in South Shields, the work carried out by these guys is of an average standard and is in my opinion not worth the money that you pay to have the job done.
