There is a small car park attached to store but this is often full, there is a council pay and display carpark just across the road. A shop well worth popping into regularly to spot a bargin or two.

Debenhams is like a time capsule…read more Every time I offer to take my mum shopping and we've done every other store in the city from M&S to Wallis, she swears she just wants to 'Pop in Debenhams for 5 minutes.' And of course, we always emerge weighed down by bags one or two hours later. This particular branch is tiny compared to the Manchester and London stores but they still manage to squeeze a lot of stock in. The ground floor is mainly occupied by accessories, shoes, perfume and make-up counters from Clarins to Benefit whilst the first floor has a strong selection of bed, bath, kitchen and dining room goodies. There's also a small childrens-wear department. The reason my mum loves this store however, is for the womens wear in the basement. There's air conditioning, three changing room areas and small subsidiaries of Wallis, Red Herring, Jane Norman, Warehouse, Top Shop, Oasis, Coast and Red Herring amongst others. Since I have been back in the Uk for my visit I have been 4 times to this store. The first time I was just browsing for baby clothes and toys, second and forth time it was to use the baby change facility and third time was for a makeover at the Benefit counter. On the second visit I went to the baby changing facility as the store I had planned to visit had suffered a flood in their room. Of course the toilets, baby change facility and childrens clothes and toys are all on the top floor, this has to be the main thing which would tip them to a 4.5 star review instead of 5 given that the lift/elevator is quite slow and there is no way you can get up that far with the use of stairs! The baby changing facilities are great, smelly bin/trash can aside of course (but that is a given wherever there are changing facilities). In this one there is a toilet and sink so you can go relieve yourself at the same time and if you have toddlers/small children there are mini ones for them too in there! There is a great selection of baby and childrens clothes available here, ladies clothing, mens clothing, accessories, homeware and of course a café! Debenhams are quite possibly the best of department stores in regards to their selection and availability within towns. Not many towns are without a Debenhams and that is one of the reasons why when we got married almost 5 years ago we had a wedding list with them. In addition to the registry availability you will find there is a personal shopper service available. I can spend hours in this store, or would if my little lady would let me! I shall go back and see if I can find the elevator/lift and then edit the review. There product range is poor, the items are pricey, the customer service is very poor and all seem to be stuck up attitude. The interior design is extremely poor and lighting is bad. If this store doesn't improve, it will definitely go down hill.

Having experienced some near horrendous customer service from other home stores over the last year (cough Ikea cough shameonyou). I have to say how pleasantly surprised I was by John Lewis' fantastic response to my broken television catastrophe (I was right in the middle of a modern family box set marathon, catastrophe is an understatement). I did not have the receipt and had lost all faith in the decency of human beings when I took my tv to the Tunbridge Wells store I had purchased it from less than two months before. I explained that the tv had already been taken away to be 'fixed' and returned to me still broken by Sony's repair team (cough Sony shameonyou). They said they would try to find the item number for me on their system even though I didn't have the receipt and gave me a voucher for a free tea and cake to use whilst I waited in their in store cafe. Note my pleasant surprise that since my last review they also now provide soya milk. After I enjoyed my tea I went back over to the customer service desk where they informed me that from the item number they could see that the tv was only received by them in store two months ago and so it could not be more than two months since I purchased it and that they would send it away to be fixed, in the interim providing me with a free replacement tv. A week later I returned to collect my now fixed tv and was a very happy bunny. An important lesson many other big chain stores would do well to remember, never underestimate the power of good customer service.
