Xtend Barre Queenstown offers a fantastic low impact exercise alternative which promises those long…read moredesired lean and toned babe'n bodies most gals dream of. I started with this studio when they first opened a few months ago. As an individual who loves to commit to a strong exercise regime, barre encompasses my love of pilates and it's benefits, with a promise of getting my heart rate up and burning even more calories. (You will seriously sweat - this is no lie!). The location is perfect for Western suburb's rollers like myself, and is the first studio of it's kind down this side of town. The studio is brand new with a simple and modern layout and plenty of windows for natural light - adding to the overall calming and relaxing Zen-feel. A range of classes are offered including standard barre classes each day, a stick variation barre class, a technique class for beginners, stride which encompasses some light interval running with barre, pilates and yoga. With plans for more classes in the future, Xtend is building a strong following. The instructors are all fantastic. Each have their own specialities, and there is no doubt you will find your favourites amongst them. Management greet you with big smiles, and it's great to be consistently provided with friendly and helpful service. Furthermore I highly recommend trying the studio's unlimited two week trial for new non-members. It's a great inexpensive way to figure out if barre is for you and which times and instructors suit you and your needs. You may find a new love for this unique work out. I've personally found barre a fantastic work out which has greatly assisted me in my rehabilitation from having deep vein thrombosis. I still get fantastic results and can keep up a reasonable fitness level by undertaking a lower intensity workout. Letting the instructors know of any injuries is extremely beneficial, as you will find they will give you loads of support and always provide alternative options for certain exercises to those who have injuries. Consistent commitment will definitely provide you some proud results even if you are like me and are forced to come to the realisation you will sadly never have the coordination of a ballerina EVER; and whilst you may think you look like a graceful Swan at the time, appear closer in reality to a challenged penguin. But don't worry, there is hope for some plié-inspired buns of steel instead. And who doesn't want a perky toned butt?! Makes looking like an uncoordinated penguin justifiable. (Tip-Just try not to look at yourself in the mirror during class).

The style I attend is Hatha, and the classes are different every time as the teacher adapts the classes to those who are attending. You do not do a set routine each time, and personally I find this more interesting because I like to have it mixed up a bit. The thing I love about yoga is that it is about your body and your personal limits, there is nothing more satisfying than feeling your body click into place more each time you attempt a pose than last time you tried it. Sharon is very encouraging as a teacher, and calm, she respects the limits of every class member and makes everyone feel good about what they can do. She leans more towards the spiritual side but there is no chanting, which is fine by me. Each class will have as many as two or three meditative periods, and I find that at the end I feel very light and experience a wonderful sense of calm and wellbeing. I often find that if I practice yoga for any period of time my core strength improves markedly, and I have better posture and can breathe easier. All this and leaving class each Tuesday night as if I have just had a relaxing full body massage for only $16 a session, is certainly a bargain in my book.

Inner Strength Pilates & Barre - Our Adelaide Pilates Reformer Classes are brilliant for increasing your fitness & toning your entire body!

This is a long overdue posting but I wanted to leave a review for women in Adelaide looking for a…read morefun and inspiring way to change their bodies and find that great lift tone and burn without the arduous task of going to a boring gym. Let me preface this review by saying I am a San Francisco based Pure Barre teacher and I was seeking a barre studio that would allow me to continue my practice during one of my many trips to Adelaide. I tried what few places were available in the area and out of studios that I tried Inner Strength Pilates & Barre studio had to have been my favorite. Maybe I am a bit biased because it did remind me of my own barre studio at home, in that it had high energy music and a quick pace that allowed you to build your strength while of course getting your heart rate up and providing good cardio at the same time. The teacher was motivating (even though it was early in the morning!) and although the class was only me and another women she handled the small size well, being particularly attentive of our form and technique (which of course provides the best results). The terms did seem a bit dance heavy which could be intimidating to those (like myself) with no dance background and little to no rhythm. But fear not! because those are simply the terms they use to help set up the exercise, the actual work requires no dance background or rhythm in the slightest. The best thing about barre is it is fun and distracts you from the pain of working out. Instead you're lost in the music and the motivational cues from the instructor and before you know it the class is over and you're already thinking about the next time you'll be able to come in. The next day I felt delightfully sore! Two weeks of regular classes I'm positive you would start to see results. I only wish I had gone to a few more classes because I can imagine that a full class would have wonderful energy. It would be nice to see some kind of package deal for regular clients. Perhaps an autopay set up that provides unlimited classes for a discounted rate. I would definitely be signing up for that right away! (Plus when you're paying a higher price for these classes you're always more motivated to go regularly and get bang for your buck!) I also really regret not trying one of the pilates classes. I am a regularly client of a reformer studio here in San Francisco and it would have been great to see how those classes compare too. I guess this just gives me another reason to check the studio out next time I am in Adelaide. Coming from an area where the boutique fitness studio market is WAY over saturated it sometimes can be difficult to find a studio that is up to par with the many offerings we have in SF. However, I am confident when saying Inner Strength Pilates stands out a league above the rest.
