    Smashed Benedict Sandwich
    Cloud L.

I was excited from all the good review and decided to check out. Turned out the place was average and slightly disappointing. The shredded hash browns wasn't crunchy enough, egg benedict was overcooked and turned solid instead of being runny as it's supposed to be.

Turkey Avocado Sandwich with fries, yum!

I am so happy I found this little hole in the wall! Based on my usual, the Turkey avocado sandwich with fries, the sandwich is superb! The turkey is not your typical thin sliced turkey, they are thick and juicy slices. The avocado just takes the dish to another level. The fries are perfectly crunchy and have a great fresh taste. The customer service is awesome. The place is kept clean and has plenty of space. I am excited to say I will continue supporting this cafe!

Peanuts has been a tradition for me long before I knew I was a foodie, when I was just a college student looking for the cheapest meal and drink.... Just recently i started frequenting peanuts again and I tried their korean fried chicken and chicken teriyaki. Great portions and solid ingredients. Perfect for a quick lunch. During the pandemic peanuts closed and renovated... it looks so great and modern inside now! I'm so happy they kept the sorority and fraternity paddles. I'm happy to keep supporting them because they are a critical part of San Jose culture. whether you are there to drink some beer or fill your tummy with a hearty breakfast, you will always get great prices, portions and customer service. Love the new remodel and miss Minh.

I used to come to this place when I was going to college. Definitely decorated differently inside than it was before. The service was friendly. I went in the morning and just picked up a sandwich to go. Took over 20 minutes for me to get the sandwich which is a pretty long time considering there wasn't anybody else waiting. Might come back and try other things on the menu if I'm in the area.

It was a great tasting meal. Plenty to eat and a great price. Friendly service and quick made to order food. I got the chicken teriyaki plate, it was good. Overall it was 5/5. I would repeat if I'm in the area. Thank you.

This is cafe landmark for people who know San Jose or went to SJSU. This place been around over 20 plus year and just recently have a facelifts. Anyone who been to this place 5 years and older know the place was clean but old decor. Now they have finally remodel the place and it looks good. Here is my scoring card for this restaurant: 1) Location: ( 4 Point ) - Great location for customer to see and find. Great parking for street parking. 2) Decoration : (3 Point) - They finally have a facelift. Looks good. It I like the old style look. 3) Price: ( 4 point)- The price is competitive and quantity is great portion. 4) Quality and Taste : ( 3 point)- The quality is ok, food taste is good and the quality of the food were good 5) Type of cuisine standard : ( 4 point) - The style of American comfort food they serve is pretty close to the way it was prepare in here in the California. Not bad! But some dishes did have slightly modify to cater the customer's need Overall it's not bad and I thinks it's great to give it a try and let me know what you think. Everything about this community staple from the super friendly staff and great diverse food to the chill environment where you can enjoy your food with ambient music while working on your computer! After being to many brunch places in SJ, this place beats them all. It's my go to!

I am an SJSU student, and this place does the job with keeping a guy like me stuffed with food. They recently did a remodel and the place looks awesome. Highly recommend checking the place out to get some food and a beer. Today I got the avocado toast. SUPPORT LOCAL

May 2024 - veggie omlette platter
    Sing M.

The 5 stars is for 3 of the of the diced onions which escaped from the veggie omlette and grilled with the bottoms of the eggs. Each one of the 3 onion cubes became a flavor-bomb after caramelizing off the oil and golden eggs. Also helping was that the grill here seemed to be well-cured. The marbilized cheese oozed out from between the eggs and greens, like lava out of the Kilauea volcano - more like mild American cheese and less like the smoked gouda from Safeway. The hash browns were creamy with butter blended into the moist mix; like the insides of a samosa. The toasty bread wedges would go well dipped into one of the specialized pancake syrups picked up beforehand from the downtown Grocery Outlet one block to the north.

Been coming here for years since I used to live nearby but ever since moving out of state wish I had a place like peanuts in my neighborhood! It's been a while since I visited and wow the renovation looks awesome!!! Don't sleep on their breakfast!! Honestly it's my favorite thing here but their other dishes are good too. For breakfast I like their burritos, pancakes, and omelettes. You can't go wrong with any of those! They also started making country potatoes and wow they were huge! Hash browns are a classic choice too. The owner is always very friendly and service is always great. It's an awesome place to go if you want a hearty breakfast especially if you don't want to wait! Plenty of seating and you won't be disappointed!

    Chilaquiles Rojas
    James S.

If you know me, I will always seek out a good breakfast place in a city or town that I visit. Thanks to Yelp for opening my eyes to Peanuts Deluxe Cafe. I was literally walking right by it en route to a different place, a half-mile away. Not gonna lie, it looked like a day bar or something not really for breakfast. But they were clearly open, a saw a sign about food, and so I glanced at the Yelp reviews A solid four stars, it said, and I agree. I've now been to Peanuts at least three times while visiting San Jose. I've enjoyed the Denver Omelet with hashbrowns and rye toast, along with coffee. Solid breakfast fare. However, they have more than that. Peanuts has an ambitious and approachable chef, and he's been trying out some specials. This last time there, I tried the Chilaquiles Rojas (with chorizo). Really satisfying, just spicy enough, and the red sauce had a good smokiness to it. Choose how you like your eggs - I can vouch for Over Easy. The chorizo works really well here, nicely merged into the Rojas. I was hungry, so this dish really filled the bill. Also, new (to me at least) was the red potatoes instead of the hashed browns. Infinitely more interesting, with great flavor. Don't get me wrong: I enjoyed their regular hash browns, but you can't beat the delicious flavors of onions and peppers to pop through these spuds. I really like the main guy behind the counter, too. Super friendly, and is happy to bring over more of that delicious citrus-infused water. Did NOT see that coming here, but wow what a great touch. Help yourself to coffee refills. Watch a game here, if you like. They close at 2 pm during the day. Check the hours for any time after that. By then, I've already headed out. Big fan of a place that seems like both a hidden gem and an SJ tradition.

They had some Fanime specials for the con (katsu and egg salad sandwiches, spam musubi), seasonal drinks, of course coffees and teas, and non caffeinated drinks, as well as some food too (heated up pastries, both sweet and savory). There's a restroom with a code and a couple seats and tables with outlets to charge your devices. Service was welcoming and efficient especially after the crowds started to pick up. I got the: 1) Egg Salad Sando: -You can tell these were handmade in store. They had cute washi tape to hold the packaging together. -Solid egg salad sandwich. Slightly sweet white bread and generous amount of egg salad inside the sandwich. Creamy mayo taste that isn't too sour or tart, lots of egg in it. Perfect for an anime con next door. 2) Cappuccino: -I got this no sugar and sugar free and it came out with some pretty latte art. I thought it was mostly ok and boyfriend thought so too, but after several sips and when it was too late since we really had to get to the con, it just became too disgustingly sweet for him and he had to throw it away. 3) Yuzu Fresh Fruit Sparkler: -Yuzu puree with sparkling soda water. -Refreshing and not bad, but even after mixing this was a bit sweeter than what I would have liked and again, in our rush to leave, we couldn't really get this adjusted. I ended up pouring most of it in a water bottle to enjoy later and put in my bag. But ended up not finishing it in the end. Maybe next year I'll try again or just stick to the food stuffs.

We hit the Brunch hour and the place was rocking. We were able to sit right down amazingly. There is a fabulous patio to people watch and enjoy the California weather. Our server Charles was really great. He walked us through the menu giving us the 911 on watch to order. Most of the plates were perfect shareable bites. Don't sleep on the black pepper sausage danish: the croissant dough is crisp and flaky, and doesn't get soggy when baked around the sausage. It's comparable in execution to the Croissant Hot Dog served at Dominique Ansel Las Vegas (in Caesar's Palace), but at a way more accessible price point. Which isn't to say this place is cheap; like many artisanal bakeries in California, it comes with a premium price tag, but at least it's not Dominique Ansel pricy. Croissante's croissant dough baked goods (viennoiserie) is pun-intended "proof" that you get what you pay for. The dining space is limited and lively. Conversing is a little tough, but if you just need a place to sit while eating, it's just right. Since then they have settled down and got things together. This should have been a five-star review, but . . . I am impressed by their unique pastry offerings. Today we ordered a Matcha Chocolat, a Pastrami Suisse (sorry, no photo - my wife devoured it before I could get a picture of it ...), a Burrata Avocado Toast, French Onion Soup (again, no photo), and an Americano. First of all, the coffee was superb! Great espresso flavor and aroma, but not astringently bitter. It really complimented the Matcha Chocolat's sweetness, even though, in my opinion, matcha tea and chocolate really do not go well together - this combination worked! The French Onion Soup was fabulous! Great aroma, and the sweet onion flavor was so delightful. This alone would be satisfying. And it is one of these rare instances where one would not want to have anything else that would ruin the state of bliss. That being stated, it did pair with the Pastrami Suisse, and together they complimented each other so well. What did not work well was the Burrata Avocado Toast. I have to say that this did not impress me at all, except for presentation (it looked nice!). The toast was soggy and the crust ultra hard. There was more mozzarella cheese than avocado (could not even taste the avocado . . .). What shined, however, was not the actually avocado toast, but the accompanying salad. Tasty! Unusual, however, in that I could taste the greens, the tomatoes, and the radishes - the dressing was not overpowering as I find to often with many restaurants. I found this salad to be quite refreshing! Now, if they can work on that toast . . . I am pleased that they have found their footing here. I highly recommend their pastries and coffee. However, they will need to reevaluate and work on their avocado toast.
