Not impressed. I felt bamboozled after seeing a great photo of a Pho French Dip sandwich on their website for $11 that looked really yummy. After I got my sandwich and sat down to eat, I saw it was like 90% sprouts with a bit of sauce and meat. Add tax and tip (yes, I tip food trucks because people work to live) and no side given with the sandwich, I felt ripped off. Add that the meat was cold, and that was a bad experience all around. This was the first time I ordered from Peasant Food. There may be other things that are better. The menu is small and some of their combos are a little out there like kimchi mac 'n cheese but that could be great. Give them a try and see. Just inspect your food before you leave the truck. read more

The theme of this truck is a global fusion and offers an extremely unique menu. I ordered the Shakshuka ($9), which is their most popular item. A hearty tomato sauce with crumbled chorizo, onion and feta cheese made up the bottom layer of the dish. The sauce was extremely flavorful, and packed a medium heat. It was topped with a bed of kale, which was covered with an egg (requested well-done) and a generous piece of flat-bread. The kale was cooked perfectly - tender and slightly crunchy. Kale normally has somewhat of a bitterness to it, but the sauce made it milder. I did expect the Shakshuka to have a larger portion of chorizo...there was probably about 5x more veggies than meat. The entire meal itself was pretty filling since it included the egg and bread, but it was also very saucy. However, I would consider this one of the healthiest options that I have seen offered by a food truck as it balanced out all food groups! The owner was very friendly by greeting customers and taking the time to introduce the menu items. Overall, a generous lunch portion and savory flavors at a reasonable price! read more

I typically shy away from fusion cuisine because my experiences have usually been a miss. That's why I was especially intrigued with Peasant Food Manifesto's menu of "global fusion" dishes. The food truck is hard to miss with its bold color and graphics. You can find the truck in downtown Seattle on Tuesdays across from the City Target on 2nd and Pike. My coworker and I wanted to beat the lunch rush and came by a little after it opened at 11AM. The "Pho-Renchy" Dip Sandwich caught my attention instantly. Deconstructed pho in a sandwich form?! Sign me up!!! At $10, the sandwich is hearty and filling and in the typical downtown lunch price range. The sandwich itself is a healthy serving of sprouts, roast beef, cilantro and hoisin sauce in a French baguette. It kind of reminds me of a sproutier version of a banh mi sandwich. The French Dip influence comes into play with the pho aus jus, which does taste a little differently than typical pho broth (but still good!) It's probably the most "kid-friendly" option on the menu, and not an inexpensive one since it's such a large portion. Best for sharing imo. The main reason I felt compelled to review: Buffalo chicken Sammy- super dry. Honestly it was inedible.. even smothered in sauce. I added more hot sauce. Still nope. It's too bad because I love the concept of this place . I think they should consider 86ing the chicken from the menu. Food Truck visit my employment frequently. Decided to give in and give it a try. Placeed on line order for 3 items around 1115 and order was ready by 1125. Whike the food was good. When i tried the "chicken sandwich" i knew it wasn't chicken, consumed it anyhow. 1. I hate to return food 2. The wait can sometime be 20 minutes plus and that defeats the purpose of the advance order in my book. Moving the kimchi to the side, the taste wasn't bad earns 1 star and service 1 star. We had a chance to try fusion tacos at Taco Libre Truck Showdown in International District this weekend. Peasant Food Manifesto offered a number of fusion-style tacos for us to choose, ranging from biscuit and gravy tacos, kimchi mac and cheese tacos, pho tacos and peking duck tacos. We opted for Peking duck with hoi sin sauce taco $5 for 2 4" tacos. Honestly, the tacos were ok. Their tacos lacked a punch of flavors, despite the good sounding ingredients. But I give them the benefit of doubts, as the tacos were fresh and I suppose they normally make sandwiches with those ingredients rather than tacos. Overall, I wouldn't mind stopping by this truck again to try their fusion sandwiches...probably not for their one-off tacos event though. read more

The food truck made its way to my work today so I ordered the Hawaiian tacos (pulled pork with pineapple slaw). The pork was nice and Smokey, but there didn't seem to be much flavor to the pineapple slaw. Maybe it's just because it isn't pineapple season, but it all just tasted like cilantro. I'd give it another try if they came around, the pork tacos sounded pretty good too. read more

Recently, I caught up with Peasant Food Manifesto at Des Moines Waterfront Farmers Market. SeattleFoodTruck.com was holding the Back-to-School Truck-In featuring 9 food trucks. I heard about this truck but didn't have a chance to try them out until last week. I like the color of the truck - that light blue catches my eye. The two staff members on board (one was Beth and I'm not sure of the other person's name) were very nice. The food came out fairly quickly and I was on my way. I had the Inigo Montoya Shakshuka which is described as an Israeli Tunisian dish featuring an over easy egg in a spicy tomato sauce with greens, Uli's Spanish Chorizo, feta, and served with flatbread. For $9, I thought the dish looked a bit small. I was surprised at how hearty it was and found myself getting full and actually unable to finish it. The greens were cooked just right - not soggy or too raw. At first, I thought the tomato sauce wasn't very spicy. It has a bit of an after kick but isn't overly spicy. I've never had shakshuka so I wasn't sure what to expect. The flavors worked well together. I liked the tomatoes but some of them were a bit oversized for a bite. I could have used a bit more chorizo as well since it was so yummy! Finally, the egg was a bit small. They do offer an extra egg for $2. That egg was cooked perfectly! It had beautiful texture and color and that yolk was runny just the way I like it. If meat isn't your jam, they offer a vegetarian option for $8. The next dish I want to try is the Blue Box Got Seoul. Think Tillamook Cheddar Mac & Cheese + Kimchi. Sounds good to me! For a new truck, I think the menu is innovative and execution is food. I'm looking forward to my next visit. read more

This food truck was parked outside a brewery last night and I decided to give it a try. Their special was called something like Kamikaze Burger, it was a beef patty, fried egg, greens, kimchi, and instead of a bread bun it was between two friend up ramen 'buns'! It was very unique, and quite tasty! My only complaint would be how messy it was and how the ramen buns instantly fell apart, but they must have known that because they gave a fork and knife and oodles of napkins. Burger was $10 I believe, but it was pretty gigantic. The rest of their menu sounded interesting too, very unique fusion items I've not seen anywhere before. read more

I checked out the Peasant Food Manifesto food truck recently in West Seattle and I was very pleased!! The brand spanking new bright blue truck is easy to spot and the the staff were very friendly and helpful in describing the food. And Beth, the owner, is awesome and seems very passionate about the food!! The food was as delicious!! We tried almost everything and were very pleased with all of it!! The food was a bit on the spicy side for our four year old daughter, but that just meant more for me!! I can't wait for Beth and PFM to come back to West Seattle!! read more

The food truck was at Ravenna Brewing when I made an order last night. I got the Korean cheese steak sandwich, and was super excited about it but was extremely turned off. The worst part was when I took my second bite.. I bit into something I thought looked like cabbage but the consistency was very rough and I couldn't tear into it. It was some paper wax wrapper.... IN MY SANDWICH. It looked like one of those wrappers from a cupcake? I was sort of disgusted but took that half of the sandwich by pieces and didn't eat the whole thing. I was going to take a picture of the wrapper but my boyfriend had already thrown out the garbage. Yeah weird. I didn't finish it obviously. They were at Federal Center South today, and I decided to try their pulled pork sandwich with gochujang. It was described as not acidic and slightly sweet. Also it comes with chips but I got a side of kimchi mac (Tilamook Cheddar spiced with Kimchi). The pulled pork was one of the best I have had, the meat was moist, tender, and well shredded. Oh, and very filling. I did not catch the guy in the windows name but he was great and that made it even better because he was enthusiastic about the food. The kimchi mac was not too spicy and mostly just the taste of kimchi, my only complaint would have been if it was a bit warmer (you really deserve a half star more). I have my own hot sauce at my desk, but they have several to choose from if you want to add a little spice to the pork. Can't wait to see them back. read more

Visited Peasant Food Manifesto for the first time over the weekend at Kirkland Uncorked. I tried the shakshuka at the suggestion of the woman in the truck - WOW! It was unlike anything I've ever tried before, it was flavorful, filling, healthy. So delicious. The spicy tomato sauce with the greens and the egg, it was a perfect flavor combination. Everyone walking by was marveling at how tasty my dish looked - I kept pointing over to the bright turquoise food truck where they could find their own. It's nice to try something unique from a food truck and isn't grilled cheese, burgers, fries or tacos. Now I'm sitting here trying to figure out how to recreate their shakshuka recipe....Yum! read more

The food will at least make you not hungry anymore. I found the mac and cheese cheesesteak to be way over the top.. it's gotta be at least 1000 calories.. and for all those calories it was pretty bland.. just starch on starch with non-sharp cheese. The menu is very small and doesn't change except sometimes year to year. Don't expect to know what it changes to, their website still lists LAST YEARS menu. The 2 stars is only because it's pretty cheap.. if you're short on money and hungry this place is for you. Otherwise it's basically hot garbage. As a food truck, PFM is really bad at showing up to scheduled spots. They've bailed on my work location multiple times without warning and without removing themselves from various food truck calendars. They value filling in for their friends more than making sure they show up where they say they'll be. They're apologetic when confronted about it but nothing changes. Spend your money elsewhere. read more

We work next to Beth and the Peasant Food Manifesto every Wednesday, and if we play our cards right, we get to trade with them for lunch. I am a big fan of the Yosemite Sam, which is a satisfying pair of super yummy sriracha biscuits in a nest of greens and liberally covered in a hearty and satisfying chorizo gravy. If you can, get an egg on top to complete the masterpiece. It's wow. Additionally, the rest of the menu is a clever and tasty mix of classic peasant fare from around the world. I do wish there was some fun play on Russian borscht in the mix, to go with the whole manifesto theme, and hey, beets are yummy. Give 'em a go! read more

O.M.G. The Korean Cheese Steak is probably the best thing I have ever eaten from a food truck! Not too sloppy for the work day, Kimchi was mild (which I quite appreciate!), unique & creative, fresh & flavorful. I'm already sending the Peasant Food Manifesto calendar to my friends so they can get in on the yumminess. The mac and cheese inside was perfect - not oozy, wet noodles, but rather a nice baked on browned cheese flavor that held it's weight in the sandwich with flavor and consistency. I couldn't love this food truck more. Who would've thought I'd find shakshuka at a food truck!? I was thrilled to find them shortly after returning from a trip to Israel. Now, PFM has become a staple in my diet - large pile of kale, covered in a red sauce with chorizo, feta cheese, and a fried egg on top. This is my idea of perfection -- which made it hard to try anything else on the menu. But eventually my friends let met taste their meals, and now I'm also very much in love with the kimchi mac and cheese (with chorizo, of course), and the Korean cheese steak. Everything they make is so, so good. Oh yeah, and the recent addition of "the kitchen sink?" Kimchi mac and cheese topped with chili and I don't even remember what else. I had the pho tacos and they were VERY dry. The taco was dry, gray meat with undressed bean sprouts, cilantro and a tiny amount of "pho sauce" and a dry lime wedge. I'm a huge taco fan, and I was pretty excited about these but was disappointed. My husband had the pho french dip and he was similarly let down. Extremely dry and bland, almost inedible. Ordered from their food truck in downtown Bellevue because there was no line (all the other trucks had long lines). What a mistake! $8 buys you a tiny cup of Mac and Cheese with Kimchi, which turned out to be as disgusting as it sounds. There was barely any taste of kimchi (or kimchi cabbage at all). The mac and cheese was the kind of stale and flavorless crap that you would get from a dollar store. I had to buy another lunch elsewhere. They have items on their menu that are different and really interesting, but I wasn't super amazed. Everything tasted good, but I'm not sure if I'd get them again. I've tried the pho sandwich, the kimchi mac and cheese, and the ramen burger. None of those really stood out to me, although I was super excited to try the ramen burger. The burger was tasty, but I didn't really like the noodles they used. I might try their other stuff next time. read more

Just when you think you have tried just about every sandwich possible you get gobsmacked! I have always loved a great bowl of Pho but pretty tough to eat on the go (gets a tad messy). Who would have thought to put that experience in a sandwich. Was in Ballard taking care of some business, saw a FoodTruck called Peasant Food Manifesto and they had a sandwich called a Pho-Renchy. I got mine with extra jalapinos (cuz thats how I like it!). It was all the elements of a bowl of Pho on a french roll with the broth for a dipping sauce. Fabulous! The broth was delicious & fragrent (as we all know that is the main part of a good bowl of Pho). A unique and delicious sandwich from some nice folks. They told me they just opened and I hope they make it so I can back many times (i'm just that selfish!). Give it a try. Cute truck, friendly peeps. decent value. There wasn't a single thing on the menu that didn't sound like something I would happily put in my mouth, but I ended up getting shakshuka and a small kimchi mac. It's really hard for some reason to find shakshuka in this town, so I was excited to see they had it. It was pretty legit, although I would have preferred a little bit thicker gravy and a little less of the greens. Still, there was plenty of gravy, with plenty of sausage, and the bread was really well made. The kim chi mac and cheese was delicious and disappeared quickly. I would have liked a little more kimchi in my dish, but that wouldn't stop me from ordering it agian. All in all, as I'm sure you have gathered, I'm a nitpicker. I'm pointing out the things that I think could use improvement....but I'll definitely go back again. read more

I checked out Peasant Food Manifesto recently, I'll admit to a penchant for checking out all of the new food trucks in town. This one is particularly cute, and I was intrigued by the beyond-fusion menu items. Pho sandwich? Why not! I tried the mac cheese with kimchi (Blue Box got Seoul, cute name) and the Shakshuka. The Mac and Cheese had a good heat level and great flavor, the creative combination really works. The portion size was good but not over the top. I like that since I love mac/cheese and would finish any portion I was given as long as it didn't taste like a it came out of a box. This one was clearly home made. The Shakshuka was savory and filling, I ordered it with an egg on top. The eggs was perfectly cooked and the yolk spilled out onto the warm tomato-y sauce when I punctured it. I visited the truck in August, but I could see this being a go-to dish on a cool Seattle evening. The owner, Beth, was friendly and welcoming and I would definitely return. read more
