In my humble opinion after trying both blacks bbq and pecan lodge I would give my personal endorsement to pecan even though blacks is more poplar because they have a better spice rub and sauce.. While visiting Dallas I had to stop by one of the places I've heard the most hype about, Pecan Lodge. Being notorious for long lines and selling out, I made sure to show up somewhat early during early lunch. I was able to walk in and grab the last seat at the bar while a small line was forming for the main part of the restaurant. The service staff was quick to grab my beer and food order ensuring I didn't have any questions. The food came out quickly and was piping hot. I went with burnt ends, brisket, pulled pork, mac and cheese as well as a side of coleslaw. The coleslaw was a great balance to the meal, cutting the flavor but also had a sneaky spice to it that I enjoyed but didn't expect. Mac and cheese was thick and delicious and the brisket was the stand out meat for me. I was able to cut the brisket with my plastic fork and did not let a single bite go to waste! I really need to open a IG page to give honest reviews bc this place is over hyped. You order at the counter then sit and someone brings your food out. There is a bit of seating inside, kind of tight, and patio seating outside. For the food I ordered a 2 meat plate (brisket and ribs) with mac and cheese and peach cobbler. My husband ordered a 3 meat plate (brisket, ribs and jalapeño cheddar sausage). The ribs and brisket were tender both had well developed bark but the seasoning wasnt there. Im a person that feels sauce should be optional but I feel like this place and a lot of others rely on sauce to carry them. The sauce we had at our table was very thin and vinegar heavy. We shook it up to see if that helped thicken it any but it didnt. The sausage was also flavorless. You got a dose of melted cheese when you first bite but then u just taste meat, no jalapeños at all. The mac and cheese was edible but was just barely a step up from kraft. One major problem with all the food was that it was room temperature. I dont know if they need heat lamps or what but none of the food was hot. The peach cobbler was the best part. It was pretty good and the one thing I would order again. Got here at about 7:30 so maybe they were just keeping it warm too long. There's quite a line when we got there. It took about 20-25 minutes to get through the line. You order your food one counter then go to the bar to get your alcohol. Was disappointed that they didn't keep their beer menu up today. Try to get a Shriner box. They didn't have it. Tried to get two other beers and they didn't have it. Finally defaulted to The bartender is recommended "green beer". Very good BBQ spot! I like the casual vibes and homey feel of the place. Luckily we hit it at an awkward time around 3 pm so it wasn't busy at all. Super fast service. Service was ehhhh, girl at the counter was not helpful and a little rude when asked to repeat herself to our daughter who is prominently deaf. Pecan Lodge has a paid parking lot behind its building, which I found pretty convenient. The BBQ is totally yummy at PL. The sides are great. I'd give it a 4.5 if yelp gave the option but I can't justify the 5 on my first rodeooooooo and I'll explain why shortly. I'm incredibly happy I was finally able to cross this off the big back thrill list since the last 3 times I've been to Dallas / DFW area I just really haven't been able to make it to pecan lodge even though I've wanted to every time. Unfortunately They ran out of beef ribs like 45 minutes before I got to the front (short line btw) burnt ends ran out like 30 minutes and regular sausage ran out a second before ordering. Literally the put the sold out sign while I was talking to the cashier girl. That ain't their fault but they did say they wouldn't run out of beef ribs (the main reason I made the trek over there, literally the reason I've always wanted to try pecan lodge) the dude basically guaranteed it cus he said they've been slow today. But the no burnt ends and no sausage really gave me the true blues. Now that I've gotten that out of the way, I was ready to savor whatever the hell was left. So I got a lb of brisket, half lb of baby back pork ribs, 2 jalapeño sausages, fried riblet, and some potatoe salad. Verdict: nothing came out warm or fresh tasting. Literally we both got the sensation that it tasted and felt as if it had just been sitting out for hours. Especially disappointed with how cold the brisket was. I'll be fair and not grill into this on a granular level until maybe I come here again, this time for lunch or super early and hopefully getting to savor and enjoy the god damn beef ribs and burnt ends. The flavor, smoke profile and seasoning was still fire. You can tell this shits quality. And the sauces and service were good as well. Disappointed I didn't get the film experience but whatever. Pecan Lodge is a restaurant that I have heard hype about for many years but am just now trying. I used to see long lines out the door but was recently able to walk in with minimal wait on a Saturday afternoon. The atmosphere inside is pretty standard for what you'd expect out of a Texas BBQ restaurant. We ordered the three meat plate and got brisket, regular sausage, and burnt ends. All of the meat was flavor and good but I felt that the brisket and burnt ends were a bit dry and not as melt in your mouth as I was expecting. The sausage overall was good and juicy but I have had better. The mac and cheese was the star of the show and one of the best BBQ sides I have had in a while. The potato salad was also very good. The sauce was a bit thin for my liking but I could see many liking it. Overall, I am happy to have tried here and enjoyed my meal (found it to be good value) but do feel that there are better BBQ joints in town. Top-notch BBQ in Dallas! There was a long line stretched out the door the entire time we were there (2 to 3 pm). A tip for those visiting: order at the bar for faster service and to skip the main (long) line. About 5 min after we placed our order, we got our food. My friend and I ordered the beef rib (weighing at 1.8 lb, so it was no light feat!) and the smokehouse nachos. My friend LOVED the beef rib, complimenting the juiciness and how the meat just slid right off the bone. I'm a nachos gal, so I loved everything about the dish. The first change I would make to a future order is to skip the burnt ends - this is usually one of our favorite things, but what we were given was relatively dry pieces that tasted like BBQ sauce. The brisket itself was pretty good, but it did not compare in our opinion to the best BBQ spots we've tried in TX. We felt similarly about the sausage. The mac & cheese and banana pudding were maybe my favorite parts as they were more comparable to some of the other spots. It was great to see a non-pork sausage option but the Jalapeño Beef Cheddar Sausage was a bit dry and the casing was too snappy/rigid for my liking. As far as sides go, both Mac n Cheese and Fried Okra were great! The Mac n Cheese is served with bacon bits on top which isn't listed on the menu.
