It's a huge department store in the city center of Zurich with floors of everything from fashion to food. I only visited the food department which is located on the lower level so I can only describe my experience there. There are rows of foods from around the world and a large section of wines from around the world. They also have a decent Swiss wine section. The cheese humidor here is worth just popping into. It had the most amazing variety of cheeses from around the world. The fresh produce is also of the highest quality. There are a handful of restaurants in here serving cuisines from different parts of the world. We visited one called Nippon Sushi and the chef there made us an Omakase menu comprised of the chefs selection of sushi on the day. It was amazingly good and super fresh. You can lock me up in this place and throw the key away :-) an exquisite place to visit, browse and have a meal :-)

I'm glad I found a Groupon for a fantastic meal for two. Afterward, I went across to Mövenpick to sample a variety of red wines before picking out a lovely bottle from Chile. It's self-service, so you can pour yourself whatever you want to taste from all the bottles on display. At the register, I suddenly remembered that I had some UBS Keyclub points to redeem, so I was able to knock off CHF 20 from the purchase price. Awesome. Then I went upstairs to the always busy m.a.c. cosmetics counter, but a sales associate was quick to help me with my purchase, and then I was merrily on my way. Always an awesome experience at this upscale department store, but be prepared to shell out some big bucks.

So naturally I ventured in and was in awe about all the signs they had an mostly fairly reasonable prices for what it's worth. Also I had notice almost everyone Zurich rocked one of their bags as well. I ended up doing some shopping here, and my only complaint was I wish I could of found more solid dark colors.

Am I still kind of a jackass for writing that? Probably. Anyway, I've recently had the pleasure of visiting the 'mothership' Freitag shop here in Zuerich. I've only ever visited the super bitchin' Hamburg shop that, in the spirit of Boxpark in LDN, is housed in a large freight container. Of course, Freitag sells at other shops around the US like Flight 001, a shop I used to frequent on Berkeley's 4th St., but going to the source and having a good poke around has a certain satisfaction. I went with the hubs a few days back and perused the wallets. They have at least three different types plus a credit card holder resembling a small bi-fold. The wallet model called 'Miranda' caught my eye as it seemed to be built especially for a the mounds of change that one accumulates here in one's pockets. It was ungodly expensive (I'm embarrassed to write how much, but let's just say it was purchased for me as a birthday present as that's the only way I could marginally justify the cost). Beyond the tarp/seat belt/bike tire concoctions, Freitag have branched out into quite fancy-looking women's shoulder bags and totes. I am impressed by their ability to render tarpaulin-made objects into something so refined, but I didn't dare look at the price tags for these Park Avenue-looking wonders. The structure of the shop is a marvel made out of a cluster of freight containers. -get a gander of this wonder as you pass by on the train coming into town. I found the service at Freitag to be fairly casual; the shop assistant who dealt with me was quite warm and friendly. After a bit of struggle trying to understand her 'rein' Dialekt, I mentioned that I hadn't caught all of what she'd said. 'Ah! Sie moechten, dass ich Hochdeutsch rede?' Yes, please. And on we continued.

Edelweiss Shop is conveniently located inside Zurich Train Station…read more Great if you want to pick up some last minute souvenir and in my case some leftover Swiss Franc I wanted to spend. Chocolate? Key Chain? Fluffy? and even a Swiss Army Knives. Nothing really "special" but good enough quality to make the recipients be happy. If you want to get the limited edition knives though, you won't find it here. Mission completed and able to spend all my coins and even some more!

I think this has a better selection of stuff that might be suitable for work, whereas the other stores might hold the sportier merchandise? Actually, I think the underground floor does have some sporty women's clothing. There is also quite a big section for stockings, purses, accessories, nighties, undies, and the like.

But I have to admit that there is a few very nice and helpful. This H&M is not always very well organised (kinda messy), but I suppose that this has never have been a strength of H&M

My favorite shop in Zurich!…read more The way the shop is arranged is part minimal chic, part eclectic; Townhouse is one of those rare shops that make you want to stay for ages and and just browse, and chat, and buy one of everything (at least.) All products that run under the Townhouse label are designed and/or produced in Zurich and surroundings, and the store owners frequently work with local artists. The range is complemented by handpicked items from international brands that you won't find anywhere else in Zurich like Heeley Eau de Parfum, Archie Grand or Jewelberry. There are lots of lovely and hard-to-find items here. Another thing I love about Townhouse is that they are always incredibly welcoming and helpful, no matter if you just want to browse or how much or how little you end up buying; this is no small feat in Zurich, where shop owners/assistants are often a little grumpy or not very welcoming.

High end merchandise, friendly staff, and ample areas to roam about as you take in the beauty of this store. We ended up in the area that sells food, wines, and cheeses. WOW is all that I can say. Each item seems as though it is was hand polished, set down with precision, only waiting for you to pick it up and place it in your basket. The cheese, chocolates, wines, all so spectacular in their own right. No on argues that this store is more expensive than others such as COOP, or Migros, but they are in different leagues. The wine department has a beautiful assortment of wines, liquors, and spirits with very thoughtful associates able to answer many questions. We enjoyed this very much. This store is designed for those who are able to spend their money without worrying about what the bill looks like. With that being said, we walked out without buying anything as we just started our day in Zurich. This store is mesmerizing, you must stop in and appreciate its beauty, even if you don't plan on buying anything. It is simply a treat.
